Good call on the slim having better geometry.
That said, I would get a muhle rocca if I had to get one razor in the mid price range.

Your Muhle Rocca with the birch handle is a beauty!
SOTD
Gooming Dept Tao is excellent... almost gone...
RazoRock SLOC is excellent.
First time trying Feather Stainless... excellent
WCS Oriental is excellent... it's like Chatillon Lux Yuzu Rose but with more yuzu.
10/10

Nothing wrong with inexpensive razors. Love my Merkur Classic, Razorock Lupo and SLOC.
Razors are like guitars, they each have different geometry and even a cheap guitar can have an awesome neck.
The next step into this hellish rabbit hole, is an adjustable...

Like the Fat Boy, the Slim has barn doors but, the Slim has better geometry.

I spent about 7 bucks on my razor. How much do you spend?

The whole idea of DE shaving is to save money, compared to using cartridges... so, you're doing the right thing!

You can get an old Gillette slim for about $30-$40.
The muhle rocca is $100.
If you need to go super cheap, get a Gillette superspeed for de,
If you want a single edge for even cheaper, get a gem micromatic, or a type L injector.
A Razorock game changer 84 is a damned fine razor for $60 or so. Solid milled 316 stainless. Made in Canada.
Edit: I just saw you want barn doors. Get a Gillette superspeed 40’s style or a flare tip.

I’m thinking I don’t really like any fatips. They all shave rough.
Great soap. Great aftershave.

The bbs freakin sucks. It manages to be inefficient and aggressive. Can’t get a good shave.
Love the stupefacente though.

hey heres a question for you gents.
do you find that a lotta american/english shave soaps just err in the side of dryish lather?
man, my wife picked me up some fancy west coast 'arisanal shave soap' thats twice what tfs costs and it just has zero viscosity. is it just me? i bloomed that biz with got water well in advance too. no love. i get the same from some of the classic taylor of bonds too.

Like “west coast shaving” brand???? Or just something from the west coast? Re: Taylor’s. I haven’t used any in years. I have two new tubs too.

All I can say is, add water. Try a natural hair brush instead of a synthetic. Synthetics makes nice lather fast, but they don’t absorb ANY water.
Btw, fuck the bbs. I almost want to shave again today.
Btw btw. Italian soft soaps rule. Tfs rules. I think I’m going to use Italian soaps all summer.

If my lather is too dry, I wet the top of the soap, pour off the excess water and swirl the brush around - this adds a bit more water to the lather.
Do this two or three times and you should wind up with a nice, wet lather, but not too wet.
+1 to what Geno said... Italian soaps are the best but, there are some excellent American soaps: Grooming Dept, A&E, Caties Bubbles, Sterling, Soap Commander, Siliski.

Killer. Really becoming a fan of the Lupo 95 + Timeless Crown. Awesome razor.
This TFS Paolo soap is amazing. Sweet like Paco 1Mill. Amazing lather. slick performance.
Barberia Bolognini Vigoroso smells like OG Paco 1Mill. Not liek the reformulation garbage that smells like Invictus' loser brother with bubble gum mixed in.
Great shave. finally. 10/10

Love this TFS soap.
RR Mr. Pink aftershave was a wonderful blast from the past. Smells like Floid Amber.
Merkur Sledgehammer 38R. This was my main razor for like 4 years. It's the only razor I've had actually fail from use. I ended up getting repair parts from Dovo to fix it. The chrome is flaking a bit underneath the cap. It will totally fail eventually, but it's nice to use it again.
Good shave.

Good shave. Another Italian soft soap. Another success. This stuff smells like clubman. Makes me sad I didn't have any clubman splash with me.
The Muhle Rocca is the perfect everyday razor. I'm convinced. Not too mild. Not too harsh. Works with any blade. Perfect weight. etc. Plus, it looks dope.

DUDE.

YES. The new AYLM formula fucking rules. Oh my Gosh! Wow. Like pasty, creamy, gorgeous glazey badass lather. Perfect. Awesome scent too. TOTALLY different soap from the old formula that was just TFS with a different scent. AWESOME.
Great aftershave and scent. the Seaforth Heather, I mean.
This B&M Eventide Templeton Tonics hair cream is interesting. The scent is a bit strong. kind of interfering with my other scents right now, but it is extremely high quality. It smells good. My hair feels good. good stuff.
11/10. BTW, the KAI in the Rocca./.......FOOOOCCCCCkKKKK. FDANG!@ Perefect.

Cool dude!
Let us know if you have trouble getting good lather. Shave soap lather should never be airy or thin. It should look like shaving cream.
Also, if the brush loses a few hairs every shave for a while, don’t worry. That’s fairly normal. I wish I would have known this early on. I panic sold a special rare brush because I thought it would die.

I’m a little leery about the puck, but I was gonna get the brush and bowl anyways.

Yeah, the puck looks suspect. Post the ingredients when you receive it. It looks like a glycerin base. Could be fine, but if you see olive oil in the ingredients, it will make an airy lather. If there isn’t any potassium hydroxide, it usually also makes an airy lather.

Fufluns is the shit. I love it.
Kai was sweet on one, but noticeably becoming crap at 2.
When I got this acqua di Parma Quercia from eBay, I was sure it was fake. Luckily it smells just like the sample I had. Cool.
10/10 I guess. Great shave.

Smells like my grandmas bowl of flower shaped soaps. Not a fan, but I’ll give it a try. Bowl and brush look nice, but I won’t know till I use them.

Great shave today. Charcoal goods level 2 kicked butt.
