Can I send my 12-year old to watch it with you, then? I'll pay for both your tickets.

Its trailer played before Star Trek, the kiddo went nuts for it, and I had a splitting headache within 30 seconds.

Yeah, Pacific Rim looks awesome!

Course, I love most things Del Toro does so there's that.

Giant robots?

Monsters?

GDT? Oh yeah!

:D

Also, I have supported both the Numenera and Torment: Numenera kickstarters. And I need to donate to the satellite camera one. That's nerdy right? :D lol

Tried to watch Dune earlier tonight. :bor:  I couldn't get into it. I was surprised to see Patrick Stewart though. That man just does not age at all.

Perhaps I'll try to watch it again at a later date.

The old Dune really only works if you're way into the books, or on an extended chemical brain enhancement experiment. Try the TV mini-series. That's good shit. I mean, I like the old Dune movie, but only as a small synapsis of something amazing. The mini-series actually pulled it off much better even if they did change things a bit here or there.

And speaking of changing things. I understand it's a book, and a damn good one according to the wife, but the new movie Beautiful Creatures deserves a 0/10 rating if ever something did. They just as well have called it, "Harry Twilight Attempts to Hunger Games." Except it wasn't as good as Harry Potter, wasn't laugh out loud retarded like Twilight, and wasn't somewhat sassy like Hunger Games. Really, the girl star was SERIOUSLY like they went looking for a girl that was a a mix of Kirsten Stewart and Jennifer Lawrence. Her cousin was an attempt to rip off the look of the secondary vampire "nice girl" in Twilight, and the main counter-point to the main girl was a look alike for the bitchiest haterade vampire in Twilight. And they tried SO VERY HARD to make things seem as magical as Harry Potter.

I bailed when she wiped his memory to protect him from herself. Wife tells me she's sick of me getting so pissy about movies. I told her I wasn't pissy, and I wasn't. I handed her the remotes, said, "I'm good," and went and worked on other shit. But deep down I wish she'd quit jumpin on every pop culture phenom and hang-on so we could stop watching this utter shit.

OK, maybe I'm a little pissy. Fucking suck-ass movies.

On the bright side it restored my utter lack of faith in Hollywood. I'd built up just a little after This is the End and the behind the scenes stuff and previews I've seen for Pacific Rim. I needed a reality check.

This is the End 8.5/10
I have never done drugs and find people on drugs less than hilarious. However, this movie was not only genuinely funny, it was also extremely well made. The writing, directing and acting were WAY better than I expected. Not quite Blazing Saddles or Holy Grail but it really reminded of Midnight Run which is one of the funniest movies ever made.

Man of Steel. Don't know, maybe 3 or 4?

I really didn't care for it. The characters were bland as hell and poorly developed and it kind of seemed like they had a generic alien movie all set to go and some guy ran in and said "Hey wait a minute, let's make it about Superman instead (despite the fact that not a single one of us knows anything about the character beyond his name)! Put a cape on that one guy!"

Overall I just thought it was a mess. Oh, and who the hell thought Amy Adams would be a good Lois Lane?

Going to see Man of Steel with four little kids and two adults, this should be fun.

Hopes are displaced, and just hoping I don't have to miss too much of the movie.

Munich 7/10

The set pieces were beautiful, the acting great, and script excellent. It just seemed a bit jumpy for a Spielberg film.

The Help 9/10

Kind of a chick flick but, an excellent movie. I tend to like movies set in the past anyhow. Would give it 10/10 if it had some sex scenes with Emma Stone. Something about her just does it for me.

IIRC the movie is sort of a "prequel" that doesn't actually exist in any of the 14 odd Oz books...right?

That didn't bode well for me. Not that hollywood doesn't usually destroy an adaptation in the process anyway.

Mama- 7.5/10 Its a Guillermo Del Toro horror movie. I tend to like those. It wasN'T groundbreaking, but it was a solid entertaining movie.

I liked colors and new jack city.

Dark Skies 6/10 great creepy factor but then got predictable and fizzled out ending.

Man of Steel 7/10 but, I was in a packed theater in the first three rows so I couldn't take in the whole screen. I may give it a higher score later when I watch the DVD version. The acting was good, but there was no electricity between Lois and superman. The editing was very Lucas-ish And not in a good way. I got tired of Zod's one dimensional character and I agree with Shane, it felt like an average Star trek movie plot like and just plugged in Superman.

Priest - 8/10: This bitch SHOULD have gotten a sequel. Probably the best of the vampire movie swarm that happened at that time, and it got like zero press, zero recognition.

I want one of those motorcycles.

Wasn't really a movie, but a panel set up as a reunion for Undeclared and Freaks and Geeks alumni and lasted a little under two hours. I'd give it about 8/10.

It made me appreciate This is the End even more because it became perfectly clear that Jay's part in the movie is Jay's part in real life. My gawd, they were merciless to the poor kid. Even Judd Apatow was smacking him around. Seth Rogan and Jason Segel were especially brutal. They had a long talk about how Danny McBride became an actor because of the casting of Underclared and several discussions of spin-off possibilities that never were fully explored except within the confines of the episodes they'd made.

The Freaks and Geeks segment was :thu:. Busy Phillipps first answer she starts stuttering and then goes, "don't mind me I'm just a little drunk." A couple times she starts screaming and going, "WOOHOO! SHOTS!" And then she steals Seth Rogan's drink and just slams it mid panel. Sam Levine is still Neal. They told an incredible story about how James Franco had made up his own backstory for his character about how he didn't want there to be any physical violence between him and his girlfriend so when Busy slapped him one time he grabbed her, screamed, "DON'T YOU EVER FUCKING TOUCH ME AGAIN, BITCH!" and threw her on the ground causing this huge uproar on set and sending people scattering everywhere. Seth goes, "I remember that and just thinking, 'wait, we get to say fuck now?'" And then they did a re-enactment of the "Jesus is just alright with me" duet with Milli and Nick. :thu: Nick still sucks.

If you were in to either of these shows, it's worth a watch. Damn funny.

Zero Dark Thirty--4/10. Bordered on terribad. The dialogue was laughable at times, and the fucking girly ass emo ending made me almost homicidal. Not a whole lot there to like for me.

The weird part is, I had no trouble with the torture scenes at all. Not because I believe we should torture people, but it just didn't really bother me for some reason. What bothered me is that we went into the compound--IF the movie is accurate--with no proof OBL was there, and we could have ended up wasting a bunch of Pakistanis with no connection to terrorism over a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. That actually did kinda bother me for some reason. I guess I want my applications of righteous & overwhelming firepower to be based on more than a hunch. But...it was him, so all's well that ends well :).

Yeah, I did not get the hype for that movie either. I just didn't feel it was well done. :(

Man of Steel 6/10

Saw it in Imax so the picture and 3D were excellent. The direction and back story were better than the last few films, stellar casting.

I guess it's just the fact that I hate godlike heroes, it's hard to get tense or involved when you know everything is going to turn out in the end. When the curtain draws you know that Batman and Superman are gonna arise triumphant and the 1 1/2 to 3 hours of movie are just gonna be trials and character worship.

Superman gets points for having a dog identical to mine though.

Just give me a goddamn decent Punisher, Daredevil, Deadpool, blah blah.

Tl;dr= Awesome visuals and good action, but it feels like last month's Star Trek with different characters and setting.
