I was expecting some interval all along no matter which vaccine you get. With variants popping up left and right, it's only a matter if time.

Pfizer and all others are setting up a long term plan for when this whole vaccine schema can involve traditional market forces. There was a released zoom meeting between top leadership at Pfizer where a CEO admitted that they are wanting to position themselves well for when this can go full consumer.

If the US and EU were serious about ending the pandemic they would waive patent protections so that other companies in other countries could develop more vaccines for the third world, which is currently being ravaged and having limited access to vaccines. But that's not what they want, obviously, which is why they haven't. Not Biden, not Merkel, not a single one of these assholes is doing what you would expect in the face of a deadly virulent pandemic. I'm not a globalist and I'm obviously pausy about getting the vaccine personally, but in the big picture vaccinating rich countries and not increasing access to the rest of the world is some straight up asshole shit.

In fact, the whole issue of variants presents an opportunity for pharmaceutical companies and I would be watching how they respond to the issue of variants because it's likely to involve a plan where constant lifelong booster shots to address variants, much like the seasonal flu shot, so that the market for this never ends.

I get a flu shot every year. I don't see how or why this would be different. Sign me up.

I think the term "vaccine" throws the conversation off a bit. You get a vaccine for polio, rubella, etc. and, aside from a booster that might be needed for some, you're done. If we ultimately have to get a shot every year to prevent new strains of COVID, and I can see how that might be possible, it's more of a COVID "shot" instead. Not a vaccine. I don't know if that's the accurate clinical definition for a vaccine, but most people equate them to a "one and done" scenario.

According to a pharma CEO on 60 Minutes a few weeks ago, in less than five years we will have one vaccine for every type of Covid there is. I figure that is a good thing.
