Yes. And maybe even try to be bipartisan about it?

Absolutely. Economically, the impact of this specific episode of "things not to do in America" will be pretty massive, and it's not something that's going to reverse in a timely and shapely manner. People that don't already have a nice big cushion saved up are gonna be in for a world of financial pain, and in this country those people will be spat on, laughed at, and mocked rather than helped. Because the people with the ability to help are mostly gonna be the "Fuck you, I got mine," types.
This gonna get ugly.
EDIT: Jesus wept, Jive. I know we're in the territory of the absurd, but bi-partison? Have you lost your mind?

Shit, we all probably will eventually
Facts. With as contagious as this thing is, everyone will have been exposed to it by the end of the year. Its just going to be a matter of how fit/healthy you are and how your immune system is able to battle. As a 40 something healthy male with daily lung training, I'm feeling pretty good about my odds of recovery. I figure I can get exposed to it living life, or I can get it from Karen in Accounting.

But who will you pass it on to? My wife and i aren't particularly afraid of getting it but we are worried about passing it on to our medically fragile kids and parents.
That doesn’t change what I said. I believe everyone is going to get it eventually, you will just have to figure out what precautions you can take to avoid it for as long a you can. Maybe by then they will have a vaccine or something.

On a positive economic turn, we hired two people to constantly run around the building wiping things down with clorox wipes. So we're constantly getting lights turn off/on strobe style as they clean the switches, then running around the cubicles wiping the sides of cube walls that might get touched in passing, wiping down doorknobs, handles, machine control points, computer keyboards, etc. Apparently they've been instructed to cover every inch of the building four times a day.
Seems a bit overkill, and what a damn boring job that's gonna be in a couple days' time, but it is what it is I guess.

Apologies if this has been posted already. The numbers here don't really match what's on the news, but it's an interesting look.

Which is causing a cascading effect as parents have to stay home, some of them can't work from home and don't have the PTO to get paid while they stay home so they look for daycare and the major daycare places are closing too. That ripple isn't going to stop quickly. It's like a feedback loop of economic beatings. Plenty to go around.
8 confirmed cases in 77,000 square miles with a population density of 11 per square mile....makes perfect sense. They should shut down the mojave desert and the great lakes too.

The current estimate is that infection doubles every 6 days so, yeah, limiting all contact is probably a good idea.

Shutting places where people gather in Washington, New York and Massachusetts makes total sense. In these places, I would even recommend handing out N95 masks where people have to go like the grocery store or the hospital. Also, we need to set limits on the amount of toilet paper people can stock up on. Asking people who live anywhere not to travel if it can be avoided makes perfect sense. That being said, shutting all schools in South Dakota because of 8 people. That doesn't make sense.

The 8 confirmed cases are probably an underestimate since testing is so ridiculously sparse here. Still, it does seem like the panic is rising orders of magnitude faster than the threat.

Lack of testing is the problem nation wide.

Our sphere is relatively small. No kids, work from home, limited social life. My bandmates are the only people I see on the reg, and those fuckers have all been sick since Thanksgiving! If I was old, infirmed, unhealthy, smoked cigarettes, or had immunocompromised kids, I'd be legitimately worried, so I understand that perspective. Statistially speaking, I'm more likely to die in a car accident or get run over on my bike, than die from COVID-19. I continue to drive everyday, and ride every week. No different for me with the common cold, allergies, the flu, coronoavirus - I'm going to just keep living my life. Whether someone gets coronoavirus from me or any other person seems somewhat irrelevant in light of the fact that everyone on the planet is going to be exposed at some point in the next 6-8 months.

My girlfriend commutes to Grand Central (and subways) 4X a week - she said yesterday was only the SECOND time she saw a cleaning crew in the past 3 years
I realize you cannot clean all the subways, trains and public transportation everyday (I totally understand not feasable and its costly $$, etc) i really do but once a year? --- NY State/City taxes you up the ass from tolls, to gas, sales etc and yet they cant clean the public transportation more? Its total horsh!t that they cannot clean these things weekly at the very minimum
We also REALLY have to evaluate doing business with China from production for us and medicines, etc.

For spring break I was planning on taking my 13 year old son on a video arcade tour through south florida for 4 days and tent camp each night. After all the news today I think we might end up having to postpone if these arcades start closing too. Gonna wait until Monday or so and then call some of them that are on the list and see if they are open or not. One of them that's close to here posted today about tripling their cleaning duties and offering gloves, wipes, and dust masks upon request. But it might just be more enjoyable if we wait it out some.
As of right now their Spring Break is extended until the end of the month.

Gotta love the NY Times paywall.
Although it does serve to remind me that I don't really want to read their articles anyway.

Viewing the NY Times article is free. You just have to enter an email address and create a free account. Click "not now" for alerts and skip the phone number part. When you get to the payment screen, click, "continue without paying".
