Got my deliver from Phoenix Artisan Accouterments yesterday.
I really wish I had ordered samples...

Their Planet Vetiver Aftershave smells like cardboard that got moldy from sitting on the garage floor too long.
I know that an aftershave named, "Creosote" might not smell good but, I took a chance and... yup, it doesn't smell good!
However, I do like their Atomic Bay Rum quite a bit - it doesn't smell anything like normal Bay Rum but, it has something in it that makes your skin feel good all day.

Oh man!

FWIW, I stay away from PAA. I got a full sized soap. Bad shaves. Bad post shave feel.

THEN, I found out, the guy is a thief/liar/etc. Multiple identities, stolen valor, etc. The whole shebang.

Moldy cardboard!!! :star: :star: :star:

Ahhh, THIS IS THE BEST SOAP I'VE EVER USED.
It's a limited edition Valentine's Day soap in honor of DG's deceased wife. It smells JUST like my parents' liquor cabinet from when I was a kid. It's a basement + Creme de Cacao + Sprite? = mind blowing. The performance is typical Declaration Grooming. It didn't burn me. I didn't want the shave to ever end.

BTW, Damn, I love the original Razorock Mamba. They sure got it right. It's mild, but it's so smooth. The Mamba 70 doesn't have the same effortless "nothing happening" feeling.

The Minora blades are sweeeet. I think these are the closest thing to the old Gillette Swede Platinum blades.

This Shannon's Lit aftershave is interesting. Smells like the burning river of Cleveland. Nice menthol kick.

- First time using Gillette Nacet blades... 10/10 Thanks Gene - you ROCK!!! These babies plowed down the morning growth like a John Deere Forage Harvester!!!
- Nancy Boy Signature Shave Cream... 10/10 Gat dang it, if this isn't the best shave cream I've ever used!!! Lots of protection with a nice, old timey, peppermint scent. (Tested on boyfriends, not animals)
- Gillette Blue Tip - nice, smooth shaves 8.5/10
- CO Bigelo Bay Rum #1401 Balm - 10/10 Does not smell like Bay Rum at all; the g/f said it smells like Polo. It makes your face feel like it's being gently caressed by a team of naked geishas.

Lol, that’s one reason I love Tcheon Fung sing. Ridiculous labels. That’s why I bought uncle Walter and stupefacente.

Dude, load your amazon wishlist with shave stuff.

Got the Baby Smooth and this Proraso in for bday.....plus $100 for IB, so I'm set for a minute. Hawk coming in, so I'll grab some blades for that.

Baby Smooth: ain't lying...I like the Teck better as it seems weightier and more solid, but this will do for fast shaves....not very aggressive with Personna Platinums, dig that. I am fuckin SMOOOOOOOTH tho.....even P commented.

Proraso: literally smells like earth, or a bush, or the dirt underneath the bush....ok, don't love it but whaddaya expect for like $7. I'll use it again, just won't be a go-to.

Soap suggestions for IB? Want to order tonight or tomorrow...

EDIT: grabbed the Sni Mato based on Gene's rec above. Still looking tho.

Ib soaps:

Their prices can be great for everything foreign or normal to slightly expensive for some USA artisan stuff. Example: get mikes, Wholly Kaw,or barrister &mann elsewhere. Don’t buy Phoenix artisan stuff.

Get these:
Furbo vintage blu soap and aftershave. Make sure it’s the floid blue smelling stuff and not the smart spicy shit.

Barberia Bolognini soap. The cheapest one I think. Awesome. Good almond stuff.

Tcheon Fung Sing stupefacente soap/aftershave bundle. This stuff rocks. Has cannabis oil.

Razorock what the puck hard soap set. Awesome triple milled.

Fine sandalwood hard soap is on sale for $8.50. I actually used one of these all the way through.

Try some razorock soaps. The new York is only $5. The p160 has tallow and it’s $6.

Btw, the baby smooth is very sensitive to blade changes due to its positive blade exposure.

One more thing: you can get a lfew Tcheon Fung Sing things on eBay for similar or even lower prices.

i've said it before... and even though i CLEARLY don't try out as much stuff as some of the other cats, best shave i've gotten has been with taylor of old bond street creams. trying the soap now, but not nearly as good. something about the soft cream lathers WAY better than soaps, and definitely lets me get in closer shaves. i'm kinda finding that cake soaps are just not my bag, or i'm doing something wrong!

Dan, pm me your address.

Also, tobs cream always burned me. That said, it’s made by the Creighton company in England. They make the creams for a number of companies.
Truefitt and hill
The body shop
Trumper
The real shaving co
Crabtree and Evelyn
Maybe kiel’s too.

So, yeah, it’s quality stuff that shaves well, as long as I use cream from one of their other companies. Tbs or c&e.

Shave creams seem to be more slick and provide better protection, IMHO of course.
My two favorite creams are Nancy Boy and Poraso Green in the tube. I always have a tub of Nancy Boy on hand! It's my go-to, all time favorite.

aw man! yeah, my facial skin's not too fussy at all.. i try to usually go with real simple scents too 'cause... well... it'd just be weird to most people if i showed up smelling all fancy and shit.. been thinking about trying cedarwood of late once i polish off my cake of sandalwood, which's been my goto for a LONG time.

hey- this did get me thinkin though-- anyone have a BEST method for shaking good lather out of cake soap? here's my process-- maybe i'm doing something wrong.

generally, i run hot water in the sink before i shower. fill my mug, and chuck the brush in it to sit and get wet. i put hot water in my wood soap bowl to soften the soap.

shower, and leave it.

hop out, shake brush out, dump soap bowl, fill sink, whip semi dry brush on wet soap to get it onto the brush, and add a coupla tablespoons of water to my mug and whip away. generally gets okay lather-- but nothing like cream-- mostly a shiny lather that works fine-- but isn't SUPER thick. i tend to get more weepers-- not nicks-- so it's not like it doesn't work-- it's just a fully different critter than cream lather.

m'i doing something wrong?

Dan, that sounds perfect. Get better soap. Actually, wait a few days and you’ll have better soap. I’m going to send you something fancy.
