Ive bought cars for 500 bucks that have lasted me literally a decade or more. What exactly are you buying and what do you look for in a car?

Yeah, get an Ipad. Yep, you're a sheep blah blah but I fucking love mine. I got a load of synths for it and these things aren't toys - get a supported audio interface and midi keyboard and they're every bit as powerful as any vst soft synth. I've got a tascam mic for it too, so I record my band's jams/ new songs, upload them to dropbox when I get home then send everyone the link. Plus I can work on harmonies using a multitrack recording app, write lyrics down, and practice guitar with amplitube etc... really nifty piece of kit.

Oh yeah, then there's browsing facebook/ forums/ ebay when sat in front of the telly. That's good too. And angry birds, bad piggies, etc. :D

Your problem, i sees it. Not the greatest cars there.

What do you need in a car besides the ability to move? 4 doors? AWD/4wd? Ability to haul mass amounts of gear?

all i need out of the car is it to go fast when i need it to, and not be falling the fuck apart. my budget is the problem, and i can't afford to finance because of student loans.

and what are you talking about? the 98 gtp is fucking bullet and bombproof. 80's g bodies are the fucking classiest whips around. and the 2000+ monte's are slick. aside from the fact that you likely need a new trans after 100k.
