Ghetto Mechanic.

I've built houses, bikes, cars. Wired boats and houses. Run large scale events. Both Corporate and personal. Growing up here in Newport, I've been exposed to all kinds of things. If you told me ten years ago that I would end up in Water Treatment, I would have laughed at you.

but here I am, treating water for a living.

You were in the Navy. So I am sure you are aware of the far reaching international tentacles of my home town. As small as it is, it's overloaded with raw talent.

ah yes. you used the word 'array', thought you might have worked on SPY.
we used to cook birds with that thing.

What was the SPY?

Did you happen to spend any time on that Massive, New Zeland built Twin Hull Prototype? I saw it one night at the federal pier and I couldn't believe my eyes. It was huge. I saw a article shortly after that said the unclassified speed was something like 65 knots. Which makes me think classified speed was probably a lot closer to 90 knots.

You could drive a bus underneath it.

they could have but I'm sure they weren't using RF to do it... which is why I said the two aren't related...

spy=phased array radar. the octagonal panels you see on cruisers and destroyers. 360 coverage 100% of the time, instead of a sweep. powerful too. enough so that it had a weapons mode, where we could direct RF energy to kill inbound missiles.

you talking about the HSV or the HSV 2?

nah, unclassified speeds are generally only a few kts over published ones. that one could do a 3 day atlantic transit though. not very comfortable though. the HSV 2 used to be stationed out at little creek va, tracked it a few times. joint venture with the army, research platform. minimal crew, automated fire systems etc.

Probably the HSV. I am going back to, oh, 2004.

That's so awesome. I've wondered what those things were. So you basically fry the missile control boards and watch them fall out of the sky?

Is the 360* spherical coverage or just surface? I'll guess surface. Spherical would cook all of you, no?

its a 3d air search radar.

think of, instead of holding a flashlight and turning in circles to find things in the dark, you had 4 super bright LED panels arrayed around you.

the arrays are made of hundreds of little radar 'flashlights' if you will, that are electronically fired at different angles randomly, basically forming a radar cloud around the ship. excellent search and track capabilities and contact resolution, especially in air.

its used with the aegis combat system for the ID/tracking/engagement of up to 300 targets at once. (obviously not firing on all of them at once, but assigning priority). left alone in auto mode, the ship could completely defend itself until it ran out of missiles and ammo.

the arrays in normal mode would could birds if they flew too close to it. the aegis FCs would have to sweep them off the array decks occasionally.

http://articles.latimes.com/2009/dec/08 ... -2009dec08

"Reporting from Moscow — In the snow-hushed woods on Moscow's northern edge, scientists are decades deep into research on bending the weather to their will. They've been at it since Soviet dictator Josef Stalin paused long enough in the throes of World War II to found an observatory dedicated to tampering with climatic inconveniences. Since then, they've melted away fog, dissipated the radioactive fallout from Chernobyl and called down rains fierce enough to drown unborn locusts threatening the distant northeastern grasslands."- LA times 2009

Dont trip YoungBlood we will rain check it for some other day when you have a stop around Anaheim or find yourself coming to Disneyland or Los Angeles.

Weather manipulation is not some science fiction bubkus. I remember reading a similar article in 07 on the New York Times.
If you read the article I provided by the LA times you will see that I owe you a punch in the face....... at the very least a dead leg :cop:

no it means it get to strike you TWICE! i saw the same LA times article. yes, they pour concrete dust into clouds to dissipate moisture so their veterans have a great day (fuck i didnt even get off work today!) no, they dont make fucking hurricanes.

Mother fucker you better re read what I wrote and stop putting words in my mouth.

And happy Veterans day. I salute your service to our country, thank you :thu:

I said It wouldnt surprise me if they could do it seeing they already have a stab at rain and snow. I never said they actually could make tsunamis or typhoons.

this is why im giving you shit. because that idea is patently absurd. enough science has been posted in this thread already to substantiate that.

re vets day: thanks man, im just giving you shit.

Oh I know and agree with you. I just remember seeing numerous articles about how the Chinese were going to deal with the smog. Seeding the clouds was the common theme.
