Just take the hit. Throwing others down with you never ends well. Don't clue them in to it being a routine thing, and never trust anyone from here on out. Do you job to the letter and be a dick about following every detail.

Take the hit and then let your "buddies" know that it is BY THE BOOK TIME from now on. That way you cover your ass in the future and they won't have an opportunity to stab you in the back. As a supervisor I would still punish you for your willingness to break the rules as you chose to do this freely.

When you are in a job that requires stringent checks always think worst case scenario. In this case the "buddies" who will save thier own ass before they man up.

Take the punishment, admit fault publicly; especially for a first offense (that won't get you fired, I assume).

Privately make it known to the group, "I wasn't going to say you all do exactly the same thing. I won't sell you out like that. But if anyone ever throws me under the fuckin' bus again, it is going to be a bad day for them. I'm not kidding, I'm not exaggerating to make a point. Heaven help anyone who fucks me over like that. Now, that's finished business and I won't say anything about it again."

I had a similar talk with a cow orker once - he's kind of a beta but seriously passive agressive. That straightened him right out, and no problems since.
