Whip a spoiler and a loud muffler on it and sell it to a high school kid as a project car.

thanks for the input brolemites.

As far as I know, that $500 will only count for you if you have enough write-offs to go over the "standard deduction" the IRS allows.... say your standard deduction is $2000 and your donations and other allowed deductions for the year were $3000, then you are allowed to deduct the 3 grand.

But if your standard deduction was $2000 and the $500 write-off is all you have for the year, you only get the standard deduction (as you would anyway) and your car is pretty much gone for free. Check with a tax expert but I am pretty sure that is the case.

I am tempted to text you speaking spanish and then go into a juarez nigerian scam.

However, my area code will give it away.

"Will the car's lowering kit affect it's ability to drive at high rates of speed on oil drilling roads in proximity to el paso/juarez?"

"Can the suspension handle 300 kil, I mean 600 pounds?"

"I have a friend, in juarez who wants this car., I will pay you in cashiers check and you will drop it off at the border.."

:cop:

Speaking of Mexicans invading your area  I was in Ojai yesterday, isn't that close to where you live?

Lol, ojai. No, I'm north of that. Although I have been through there a couple times. Pretty awesome little town. If I grew citrus, it'd be #1 on my places to live. Out off the east end by Gridley.

What you doing? Wine tasting and relaxing?

I'm kind of house shopping, actually. I will be moving out of the Valley sometime next year, but will still be in So Cal so I am looking at the market in certain areas to decide where to go. I can telecommute for my job and my gf is a nurse and can get a job anywhere so we don't want to be in the Valley anymore. The plan is to sell my house and get something bigger somewhere else. Ojai is really cool but ridiculously expensive, so that's out of question for our plan. We've been looking at areas around Ventura and North L.A counties. The weekend before, we looked at the Lompoc/Solvang area and liked it quite a bit.

My donated 2002 Altima sold at auction for $3100. It was in a little better shape than yours, but the engine was toast and it had 172000 miles on it. They came and hauled it away, I got some paperwork about a month later that needed to get sent in with my return. I have way more than the normal standard deduction (mortgage payments, expenses and depreciation on a rental house) so it was pretty much gravy to me. No PITA over parting it out, having to haul it somewhere, etc. Money benefited a very cool radio station, and I probably realized as much of a deduction as if I had tried to sell it on CL.

+1 to what Billy said about the tax deduction. If you get tired of dealing with the dregs of CL, assuming you don't have a way to tow the car to a scrapyard yourself, call up a local towing place. Tell them you want a car taken to scrap. They will likely give you $200-250 (provided scrap metal prices still are where they have been for a while) and keep the difference as their fee. You get quick cash and don't even have to get your hands dirty, save for whatever's on that cash they hand you. :D
