like i said, i get what it is. and i love giant robots fighting giant monsters defying laws of physics just as much as the next guy (you could not swing a container ship by its end, as ships rely on mostly equal weight distribution from water or supports in drydock, and lack the tensile strength :cop: )

and for what it is, it is sure to be badass.

however, now that we've pretty much seen pretty much anything and everything of massive scope displayed on our screens--giant starships, monster of planetary proportions, entire galaxies, epic battles of giant robots, giant monsters, giant starships-- with the advent of CGI, i just dont get the excitement, the anticipation. do you really think its going to be something you've never seen before?

now, i don't advent the ceasing of these movies. by any means. they are great entertainment, and should carry on and push the envelope as much as they can. but to hold this one up on some pedestal, like it will somehow be special, seems odd. its going to be another transformers. another godzilla. especially with the director having just executive produced one of the shittiest employment of computer graphics in a film since....i cant even remember.

It will be special because it won't be transformers or that last abomination of a Godzilla movie. It looks to be fun and awesome. Something neither of those were.

oh? and why wont it? what part of the trailer/staff say it wont be EXACTLY that, with all the cheesy jokes thrown in to boot? when the robot vehicles slam their arms together, as their pilots do inside (or remotely? would make more sense, but i doubt it...less drama), in unison, to say, " look how badass i am!" does that tickle your pickle? are you 5?

and joss whedon is terrible. i dont care if he did write an alien film (the second-to-shittiest) or the screenplay to toy story, buffy and angel are fucking inexcusable. firefly/serenity are really shitty scyfy (note spelling, its where they belong) and cabin in the woods had potential but went the :freak: very quickly.

i still love you. forum is just boring today.

i saw the scene today where a helicopter is being chased by the creature through the skyscrapers of manhattan, banking and twisting between buildings, and somehow the pilot in his frenzy of fear i guess forgets that hes in a fucking helicopter. why didn't he just go UP?

2) No michael bay
3) No blue people
4) No matthew broderick in an action movie.

thats not a godzilla movie. the last godzilla film came out in 04 and is called 'final wars'.

the film you speak of is commonly referred to by kaiju fans as GINO (godzilla in name only)

i think we can agree, though, ovid, soulless as i may be, that this sort of massive CGI summer blockbuster crap would better be served on a FFVII movie (think weapons attacked junon/midgar)

I could seriously probably write 10 pages on what I hated about the transformers movies, and I never actually finished any of them. (Hell, I never even tried the last one.) The godzilla movie was just terrible on every level. As was Avatar. Again, never actually finished it. It was like watching a bad 80s cartoon with a HUGE CGI budget. Painful.

I don't expect much out of movies like that, just not to be insulted the entire time.

But yes, it would be awesome to have a FFVII movie. I dunno if anyone would bite on doing it after how poorly the first CGI Final Fantasy movie did.

it did well in its market, right? i thought FFVII fans dug it, but theres the problem i guess. the fanbase is rabid, but small. but if it had this kind of budget, shit it obviously doesnt matter what story is behind it.

But I don't care about that. The movie sucked on every level except slathering everything in CGI. It wasn't fun. It was annoying, and bad, and dumb.

Pacific Rim looks fun. That's all I ask out of stupid CGI blockbusters is fun. But most of them can't even deliver on that low a level because too many directors think every movie needs to be a 2.5-3hr epic showcasing their "skills."

It might end up not being fun, but I trust GDT to make a movie fun more than I do Michael Bay or James Cameron (who actually has done some really good films Avatar just wasn't one of them.)

Yeah, but it cost $137 mil to make. And I thought it was ok, but it certainly wasn't what I was expecting out of a final fantasy movie.

It only took in $85 mil at the box office. That's not so good.

it wasnt slathering everything in cgi, it was a cgi world. and an amazing one. it should be respected on that alone. and im the biggest detractor or CGI out there. shit was brilliantly done, a monument to what humans can do creatively.

I didn't say GDT was better than Cameron. I said I trusted him more to make a fun movie.

Also, putting Titanic in a plus column.......Lets make the "bad guy" so hilariously one dimensional you'll completely forget one of the main characters is cheating on her fiancee. Its ok though, you're supposed to root for that because there isn't a single redeeming quality to the man. Bleah. BLEAH BLEAH BLEAH.

So we are faulting GDT for producing Mama when compared to James Cameron? WTF f**king fail! GDT ALL DAY LONG over Cameron. Titanic is the most overrated piece of shit ever. Ever. Cameron has a +1 for Terminator 1 and the Alien movie. That is literally it. The rest of his stuff is high budget garbage :crap:

Also, putting Titanic in a plus column.......Lets make the "bad guy" so hilariously one dimensional you'll completely forget one of the main characters is cheating on her fiancee. Its ok though, you're supposed to root for that because there isn't a single redeeming quality to the man. Bleah. BLEAH BLEAH BLEAH.

So we are faulting GDT for producing Mama when compared to James Cameron? WTF f**king fail! GDT ALL DAY LONG over Cameron. Titanic is the most overrated piece of shit ever. Ever. Cameron has a +1 for Terminator 1 + 2 and the Alien movie. That is literally it. The rest of his stuff is high budget garbage :crap:

Fix'd that for ya. ;)

other than that, though, youre right.

and james cameron > GDT all day. aliens, son. titanic. come on.

I didn't say GDT was better than Cameron. I said I trusted him more to make a fun movie.

Thanks Ovid :) I went back and rewatched 1&2 and I have to say the 1st one is the only one I dig. It has the 80s vibe, which it came by authentically, obviously. I felt like part 2 was kind of stuck between two generations as far as special effects go, so it didn't really hold up for me. I MIGHT like the Abyss more if they trimmed an hour and a half off lol. That's all the love I have for James Cameron.

neither of them being even close to my favorite directors, if i had to pick ones filmography to be wiped form the earth, it would be GDT's.

just to save aliens and T2. and the directors cut of both aliens and the abyss make them way better movies (not often the case) and some of those scenes should have made the releases

and this is ABOUT high budget garbage! welcome! ;)

Ahh, I can see that. I was the right age when T2 came out so it just sort of has a place in my heart no matter what. The Abyss, another movie attempting to be "epic" when it just should have shot for "solid" and it would've been fine. Apparently the "real" ending is totally different because Cameron ran out of money for it?

Am I thinking of the right movie? I think I am....
