I quit one once, the main dude had too much of his own vision of our so-so cover band & the music he wanted to play. LOL, ahh the good ol days... 
I felt exactly the same way in the last band I was in. The only difference was that the guy who wrote all the tunes criticized my chops and didn't want me playing anything other than power chord rhythms.
I quit.
