but... it can't end there... someone has to deal with the white walkers for gods sake!! lol

The difference being that he's waiting 5-6 years between books, isn't getting any younger, and has said that he will not allow anyone to finish the series for him. Helluva guy.
But hey, at least he clearly eats healthy, exercises, and takes care of himself so he won't die prematurely.

I don't remember where I gave up on Wheel of Time. I do know I had a stack of several more books to go sitting on my shelf when I finally threw in the towel.

My gf has read the first four and says that he suffers from what I call "Robert Jordan syndrome", insofar as he can write huge passages of prose without saying much of anything whatsoever. I stopped reading Jordan's books after I had finished some 900 plus page paperweight, and realized that absolutely nothing had happened.
Martin can be like that... but I think what this series really suffers from is the way it's broken in to POV chapters,
so when you have to read through a chapter of a character(s) you really could give two shits about it becomes really tedious....
So much this.

From what I hear, if you can make it past book 10, it really starts to pick up again. Crossroads Of Twilight seems the have to worst reviews of the series.

Making it past book ten to get to the goods doesn't exactly sound like a ringing endorsement. Especially since so many of the books top seven hundred pages.

True, but I'm near that point anyway, so I might as well keep going through the slow ones I've come to. Reading through them as fast as possible.

I'll just say that in the TV series you've already seen Thoros of Myr bring back Lord Beric, so they've established that death isn't necessarily the end of a character.

No, I thought the episode was fine. Just not that great of a finale episode. Was hoping for Lady Stoneheart appearance.

I haven't seen it yet but I figured Lady Stoneheart would have made a quick drop in to say hello and make everyone who didn't read the books do a big WTF.... based on my friends Facebook updates most seem disappointed... I guess 99% of them were expecting Joffery to die, guess they will have to wait till next season...

They only end seasons with a significant, but relatively less shocking cliffhanger. Danny and her Dragons in S1, The Others in S2 and Danny again in S3. I wasn't expecting a whole lot. I thought it was a great, informative episode honestly.
While i do know some things that are coming up, i have only just begun to "read" the series. I just rewatched S1 after reading most of the first book. I must say, the series does a great job of getting the vibe of the book down. Very impressive. Plus i missed a few things when watching the first time. Some things now make more sense to me. So now i have to rewatch S2 and probably S3 again too. 9 months to do it i suppose. All while tending to the books as well.

S1 was pretty dead on to Book 1 IMO, from S2 the show started making changes but IMO understandable changes as Martin does tend to draw things out sometimes.... other changes make you go hmmmmm.. that's odd.... but at the same time I kinda like that since it keeps the show fresh for a person that has read the books.. you still get that WOA.. I didn't see that coming!! reaction every now and then...

Good season, way too many fucking characters and storylines trying to interweave though.

I'd have to agree with this. I wasn't expect any big shocking cliffhangers in this episode, but I thought it set up the next season pretty well. I also think that 10 episodes in a season for a show like this is too small. At least give us 15 or 16 shows.
