Forbidden is fantastic. I still spin Twisted every few weeks. Step by Step. One Foot in Hell. Out of Body. So many good tunes on that album.

I think everything from Twisted to Omega Wave is awesome

The singer's voice (Vio-lence) is a make or break. I can't stand his voice. I will say it definitely has character.

Yeah I don't mind him vocally, but I also like King Diamond! LOL!

[/quote] Rob Flynn was in Vio-lence along with Phil Demmel who was also in Machine head

Rob Flynn was in the Pre-Forbidden band Forbidden Evil, but I don’t know many who are going back to that band. But whatver. The Vio-lence/Machine head connection was always the more clear lineage

Well whatever the lineage, I think Machine Head is el terrible.

Don't think I ever heard Forbidden Evil (band) though.

I just found out that T Calvert was the shredder I really liked on that Forbidden disc as well as a huge part of Nevermore Dreaming Neon. Cool axe slinger RIP

What did you think of Omega Wave? I thought it had some solid stuff on it.

Politics of Ecstasy is phenomenal as well. Calvert was such a great player.

It is one of the best modern thrash albums. Right up there with the last couple from Kreator and Testament.

Edit:
Ignore me. I saw the image and didn't read the words.

We're calling Twisted into Form "modern?" I mean, I love it, but even my relic ass ain't callin' it modern.

Vio-lence was such a great band. I know the World in a World and Office Nice always pop straight into my head when I think of them.

So watched some recent Flotsam live stuff and Erik AK has not really lost much in his range. His super highs are crispy so he has lost a bit on that end but the rest sounds killer as ever. He doesn't strike me as someone who has taken pristine care of his voice either but it's still sounding great.

Back in the day, for me it was Slayer, Anthrax, Megadeth from the big 4. Weirdly enough, I didn't get into Metallica until later. I had this impression that they were not as "punk rock" as the other 3 and I thought the name sounded like a faggy hair metal band that wore high heels and shit.

As far as other thrash bands went, I loved Forbidden, Death Angel, Testament, Sodom, Kreator, Destruction, Flotsam & Jetsam and Vio-lence. I didn't really listen to Exodus at the time, and I didn't like earlier Overkill. Also worth a mention is Forced Entry from Seattle. As Above, So Below has some pretty impressive material on it. My drummer at the time was really into Prong. I didn't really get into Prong until the Cleansing album.

If I had to pick favorites, I'd go with Forbidden and Death Angel, and maybe Kreator.
