I really hate router tables.
I had a guitar body thrown into my chest once. I'm sure my fingers got close to damage then.
I much prefer shaping bodies with the spindle sander these days

I worked with a guy that got a piece of 1/4" King Starboard plastic caught in a table saw. We could all hear him loading up the blade and got the fuck out of the way. It caught and took off across the shop like a large Chinese Star. It hit the cork board right above my buddy's head. If it had hit him in the neck, he would have been dead quickly.
Needless to say, he went fucking ballistic on the other guy. And rightfully so. Dude was very full of himself and always did dumb shit in the shop.

Table routers are dangerous tools. They will tear you up and not even slow down.
They work great for me, but I won't use one unless there is someone else around. If you aren't afraid of a router, you are a fool and an idiot.

Quick update...
First, thanks for all the mojo, guys. I appreciate it. My finger still hurts pretty good, but, I blame all of you for that. Your mojo is weak AF.
Went in for a follow up visit yesterday. Still looks pretty gnarly (I can't look for more than a glance and I don't even want to see the x-ray) and there is a very long way to go, but there has been a little progress anyway.
The nurse yesterday was freekin awesome. I was stunned that she took off the old dressing, cleaned, and redressed the the thing without hurting me a bit. I hate pain. I am totally and completely a whiny bitchy three year old girl about pain, though I must say, i took it like a man when it happened. I ran around in circles holding it in a paper towel, swearing like a very manly sailor. I may have even made up some manly new swear words. MEN! Anyway, back to the nurse...
She was awesome. Took great care of me, did not hurt me, was kind, patient, and funny as hell. Oh, and she was quite pretty. I think I want to have her babies.

Well, a little further on down the road...
I am told that the finger is healing well and quickly. At least a little faster than anticipated. I have to go to the orthopedic clinic for checkups and dressing changes every third day, but I get the same nurse every time and she is unbelievably good, and very kind.
On the other hand, well on the other hand there is no damage
Oh! Oh!! I kill me!
Anyway...
It still hurts most all of the time but either the pain is decreasing or I am getting used to it. It is all wrapped up and in a metal two sided splint, but if I bonk it on something (like 100 times a day) it sends out a pretty good wake up call.
It is healing well, so i am told, but even though I am a grown ass man, i still am unable to even look at it. Yeah, yeah, I know. Sissy.
The prognosis? Yes. It will heal. Yes. It will be shorter than the one on the other side
So, from what I am told, it is probably gonna be a matter of months before I will gain use again and the pain subsides completely...

Well, further on down the road, I have to say that the doctors, and especially the orthopedic nurse who was assigned to me did an amazing, amazing job. They were able to get a lot of new tissue to grow, and the nurse was able, through wound care techniques, was able to shape the way the tissue was regrown. The finger is looking pretty good, but it is still really tender and I am still wearing a metal splint to protect it during the day. I've lost a lot of dexterity and my range of motion is greatly reduced, but with work the range, strength, and tenderness will go away.
I may be able to play again. Which is really strange because I never could before.

I'm 59 1/4... lately, when I've been working on the table saw, as soon as I make a cut, my mind turns towards the next step in the job and I completely forget the blade is still turning.
Freeking scared the buhjeebuz out of myself several times in the last few weeks.
