Yeah, despite your obvious disdain for grammar, paragraphs and the English language as a whole ( :D ) you do make a very good point.

Back when I started to visit HC (mid 90's) it was pretty much the only source for that type of information. Well maybe not the only one, but the other sites were extremely amateur, hard to navigate etc... HC was a one-stop shop for a lot of the information musicians needed.

Today, that definitely changed and there are a lot more options out there for discussions and tutorials.
And when it comes to user reviews, YouTube practically dominates that niche now. I can say for myself that today, whenever I want to find a review of an amp, guitar or pedal, I go to Youtube first before checking any guitar mags or sites. And normally there is a review there already so there is no need to go anywhere else.

So maybe HC as we know it was doomed regardless of what happened with GC/Bain etc... the fact of the matter is that there is no way to know for sure what would have happened to HC without GC, we can only speculate about the "what if's" but yes, there were several changes in social media and the internet in general that COULD have meant the death of HC as we know it, regardless of GC being involved.

Forums are still going strong everywhere though, so I guess we can blame the software changes for killing that part of the site, but the other parts, it's hard to know for sure.

What you did there, I see it. :cop:

However, they don't.

My wife and I are currently watching The Sopranos from the beginning (me for the first time, her for the second). Your description ^^^ reminds me of the mafia "busting out" a puppet business.

Bain found a way to do it legally.

Bain found a way to do it quasi-legally.

Wow, lots of text walls in here, I didn't realize people still cared that much.

I stumbled across HC by finding something I wanted in one of the classifieds sections. I found the amps forum to be so entertaining that I never left. It was a fun way to get some laughs and learn about gear at the same time. I still miss it sometimes. Of course GAB is by far the next best thing, but it just isn't quite the same.

I happened upon HC trying to find a used Marshall cab. Checked out the amp forum and it was utter chaos. Lots of lulz, but so many assholes all around. Not friendly place back then. Either it got better through improved mods, or I developed thicker skin. Who fuckin' knows? :horse:

GAB, in my opinion isn't the same...It's better. Plenty of great music and gear discussions happening. Lots of lulz to be had as well. I kind of like that we're a part of a growing community here.

I tried to log into HC for the first time in a long time recently. My USER ID was invalid. I was on the short list of the longest tenured members on HC - was a member there since 1999 & they deleted my account. Nice ... :wank:

GAB is better because it hasn't gone septic and isn't being forced to feast upon its own rot by the board admin(s). Having someone in charge that gets the reason the board exists makes all the difference.
