I find Gov't Mule to be one of those rare bands that have very interesting music that you like to listen to intently, but at the same time it is very easy to listen to in the background, if that makes any sense. Or I'm just weird.
Well, duh.

The Mule is awesome. I've seen WH before, but not with Mule. I'd love to see them.

Yep Mule rules. Warren Haynes is one of the best live players I've seen.

I've been giving them a listen lately (I think it's their first or second album), and not finding much that's grabbing my attention. Can ya'll recommend somewhere to start for me to get into them? Newer stuff easier to get in to, or am I just not getting it?

I suggest the live album "mullenium".

I can't really add much to that. For me, Warren hits pretty much on all cylinders: singing, songwriting, lead chops, and tone for days. I tend to like his tones from
Dose best, but it really is all good.

I saw him not too long ago and he didn't have a single PRS amp on stage with him. Just his SLO and his Diaz. I know him and Trucks were using them for a brief period but I'm not sure if they stuck around.
Gov't mule last few albums have been pretty weak IMO, and I HATE Gordie Johnson's producing (even though I dig is band Grady). The tone on High and Mighty is fucking terrible. The whole mix is terrible.
I haven't even really listened to the last one that came out cause the few before it were so disappointing. That said Dose is a masterpiece.

I don't like it when they do that reggae shit. I love old school Reggae, but I just can't get into their version of it. I guess it makes sense that Gordie Johnson would produce it though, considering he did something similar in his old band Big Sugar, which I also never got into.
I'm being harsh but I really do like them. I'd still see Gov't Mule or Allman Brothers without a second thought.

Shea, I think him and trucks are using the prs amps with ABB even though Haynes still has his Diaz up there too.
For the mule he's still rocking the Diaz and SLO

Man , I REALLY dig Gordie's production style. H&M is sonically one of my favorite albums of all time. I love how you can really hear the room on that album. You can hear the air moving in the kick drum. You can hear the wood in the room in the guitar tone. Sounds like he mic'ed everything with LDC's and let everyone rip in the same room. Big fan of that sound personally

Yeah I liked the sound on H&M too. I never really paid attention on who produced the album etc... but I listen to that album all the time and love the sound of it. It has a "live", organic sound, yet it's very clear and detailed.

They're made by Sewell

Sewell makes some seriously awesome stuff, so not surprised the PRS stuff sounds excellent.
Is Sewell still actually making the amps? I was under the impression that the PRS amps were basicaly redos of the Sewell amps but not made by Sewell.
I played a Sewell amp once, that thing was a beast, small 1x12 combo used at GC for $1999.

I know I am way late to the party, but they and Warren have been a recent discovery for me. I stumbled across a vid of him doing "John The Revelator" on Youtube and was blown away. I then watched he and Anders Osborne do a cover of Blind Faiths "Can't Find My Way Home".
So unbelievably good and powerful.

Mother fuck. I feel like I don't belong here with all of you... because this thread is my first exposure to this band... and I'm really digging it and don't understand how they flew under my radar. I guess I'm not as rock and roll as I thought.
Anyway, thanks Billy for the thread and for everyone else who posted vids. Cool shit!
