lots of potential here. you should do a full and polished recording. the drums and vocals are awesome. as well as some of the orchestral work. little more in depth melody lines and progression would finish bringing it all together i think. i'd really enjoy hearing a full recording.

Appreciate the listen and the feedback man....I'm not there yet though. This is just working out ideas, seeing what plays and what doesn't. You know I'll chuck it in here when I do something final.

Plus I honestly just started with this, and have zero idea how to actually mix it lol. Working on it though!

good thing, as the warcraft soundtrack is straight up orchestral work with similar beats that seems like it's in an infinite build up.

Just seeing this thread now and listened to everything. Awesome job man!! These are excellent! Definitely subscribed. 99% of what i post is "stuff no one wants to hear" so i'm all about it....

Where are you submitting this stuff? I've been wanting to do the same for film and tv but only through crappy "pay to play" sites. Trying to learn the legit way that people end up doing this for a living.

As far as where I submit this stuff...I have some friends in the industry that'll kick me a bit of work or ask if they can use a track or two. I also use Songtradr. That one IS sort of a pay to play site but you get credits every month for free...you can buy more if you'd like but I never do. They post up ads for wanted music and if it's up your alley you do up a track and submit it. I probably do one or two a month there, depending on what comes up as far as the ads....a buddy and I got really into the AHS ad the last few days and submitted 5 each...we both got shortlisted last night so those will probably go.

This isn't anything serious for me....the money is decent but I'd never want to do it for a living or anything. It's just a different way to make 'music' using different tools.

As far as being serious about it.....you're going to need a demo reel. Bunch of film clips with the sounds stripped out that you score to as an audition tape type thing, which then gets sent to agents to see if they'll take you on. That leads to work, which leads to more work which leads to you scoring for TV and or film.

Be aware that this is a rabbit hole the likes of which you've never seen though. There are sample libraries out there that cost $10k and more for Kontakt and PLAY instruments. Guitar gear is nothing compared to this stuff as far as cost. I've got just the basics as far as tones go (orchestral, perc, woods, some for sound design etc) and it cost me around $1500-$2k to get there over the last few months.

Let me know if it's something you wanna get into and I can point you at some good libraries.

Great info, thanks! Yeah i'm on Songtradr but haven't really submitted or added a whole lot. I can't seem to find ANYONE who has actually been selected or articles of people having success on there so I haven't really pushed it there. I hear of people short listed often but not chosen. Ever had your work chosen on there yet?

My dream would be to do this for a living. However, a niche portion of the industry. If I DID do it for a living then obviously I'd have to get more commercial with it.... but right now, just doing it for the love of it, i'd prefer to do unique soundscapes with the equipment i already have.... horror soundtrack with the twigs machine and folktek stuff... indie films with a unique take through modular.... field recordings for scenes... etc etc. I have the Kontakt full synth library but never use it. I'd love to have a sound that fills a niche for specific directors and needs. I've been planning on putting together scores to existing films and also utilizing other artist's videos and provide a score to it and am doing that soon just for myself but that's good to know that it's what you need to get your feet in. The Native Instruments software is a real time sucker - four hours will go by in the blink of an eye.

This is my first clip that I posted on GAB, it uses a Damage loop and I tossed in a regular kick and snare from another program.
I was so proud of this clip that, I posted it a million times. I used the same guitar settings and fuzz on all tracks - a mistake I will not make again!
Somehow, I accidentally deleted the data file with all my tracking and I never got around re-recording.

I hear you man....unfortunately running my own business doesn't leave a whole ton of time for this stuff, so I couldn't take on contracts even if I wanted to.

Yeah I've been shortlisted a bunch of times and licensed 4.....one for a soundtrack for something and 3 were for video games IIRC. One might have been for a show.....I'd have to go back and check. My buddy that I write with has had similar luck, but you're right...I don't know anyone else that's been chosen either, but my circle of musical friends that use it is pretty small....most of the composer guys have their own PROs and don't need ST. I don't need a separate PRO as I'm not as prolific with this stuff as they are, so ST suits me fine.
