This could grow to be one of my favorite Metallica albums actually, although my number one will always be MOP. I liked some of their Load-era music and this album has elements of that as well as the old school Metallica.
I've always been a fan though, they only lost me with St Anger and Lulu. Death Magnetic was great too but this is better IMHO. A lot of these new songs will become classic Metallica songs and be played live for years to come. The title song, Atlas Rise and Spit Out the Bone will for sure.
I agree for the most part. I think the album is great... and I'm even starting to like some of Kirk's leads.

Yeah I agree here as well. I think it's a pretty bad ass album all-in-all.

This.. I think I can put it that I'm simply Metallica'd out. I don't want to hear them do old thrash, I don't want to hear them do the hard rock thing of the Load's and I don't want to hear Jaymz's's vocals, nor Kirk's lead playing.
And quite frankly I can't even listen to their old stuff besides Kill em all on the rare occasion and a few songs of Justice still get me going a bit. But as great as Ride the Lightning as nd MoP were in my formative years, I just can't listen to em anymore
Upon reflection of the year in metal this is quite a pedestrian effort imo. There were so many amazing metal releases that its really hard to not draw comparisons to other efforts especially from 1st generation thrash artists like Anthrax,Megadeth,Slayer (2015), Testament, Kreator....
The sad thing is that we are enjoying this record based on their body of work since 1990. Its sad that we are overjoyed because James doesnt yodel and there are two actual thrash songs and we can hear some bass here and there and Lars plays pretty well in some places. This isnt a band that can stand against its peers young or old. They put out a hell of an effort based on the talent in the band. They got EVERYTHING and then some out of Lars I have somuch respect for him just due to the fact he is 54 and playing his ass off still and while he isnt a good drummer he did his best and added a lot to the mood of the album. james always plays great but his writing has been such shit over the last 25 years its refreshing he wrote some decent songs. With all that being said upon many many listens to this album I still walk away with the conclusion that its a pedestrian effort and the celebratory accolades being thrown on this album is in direct response to their last quarter century catalog not in fact the actual material recorded.

I actually bought the CD a few weeks ago. I loved it when I first heard it and it has grown on me even more ever since. I have always been a Metallica fan and this album hits all the right spots IMHO.
I also notice some tracks have been picked up for airplay on both modern and classic rock stations, which is crazy for a brand new album.
