Seems like nobody cares about our Slate Digital excitement, or their jealous of our great sounding clips, ... and your cool fully arranged song, ... and my good looks.

i'm totally in for good vst talk, but i just got home to my monitors-- and judging from the plastic craptastic comput-sheez on my desk at work.. ain't worth poop. so i'll get to it when i get upstairs after i make some dinner, y'punks. fer cryin' out loud.. :D

i'm actually excited to listen. i love waves NLS which is basically the equivalent-ish thing, and use it a lot- so it'll be an interesting comparison. insofar as the cult of slate.. well.. i dunno bout that.. but i'm alll for good sound :D

Thinking about it. As a current customer I get so many months free. I just have to jump on it before the month is over.

Shit, month's about over.

I'd like to get their new EQs and such just for giggles. Probably work better than what I'm using and sound more musical.

I have the VMR with the original EQ's and those things are fucking awesome. The new one is supposed to be a step above and I want it. I want all the Slate stuff... all of it. I had absolutely no idea what the fuck I was doing and shit got much better and very quickly once I started using the VMR and the VBC. I need the new EQ's, VCC, and VTM. Need them.

I've become more and more pleased with the "production value" of my clips since using the Stale stuff and getting more and more familiar with it.

$20 a month bitch. All of it.

And you should be able to get several months free since you've already purchased some Slate stuff. Log into your account and check it.

I've been having a hard time retrieving my ilok account and password info. I tried to sign on to Slate one day and do that whole thing and I got frustrated. I gotta give it another shot. Honestly, I don't mind just paying for the products. The two that I have are seriously fucking great so I trust the brand, a lot. I know with the VTM and VCC it would only get more polished and pro sounding.

You use Reaper, correct? I assume this stuff plays nice with it? I am getting back in the game a bit and I am pretty much starting from scratch. A few "easy" buttons here and there would be great.

Yes. I use Reaper and Slate works great it in. I haven't even really broke into the manuals on the plugins because they're so intuitive and easy to stumble through. Here's some before and after Slate examples. They aren't the same tunes, but they are first tunes from my pre Slate clips and then some from my post Slate clips. Pretty much the same rig with the exception of the guitar. Huge difference and I'm still a noob.

:hmm:
Yeah, I don't mind paying outright for the stuff either, but the idea of paying for a year at $20 a month, and at the end of the year getting a $200 coupon towards any purchase essentially means you have a perpetual trial + option to buy what you use the most every year.

Fucking iLok. Gat damn pain in the ass all the time.

Apparently Slate lied. I went through the process just now of signing up for my "free extended trial" on the subscription service, go through all the steps, and the last step says, "Sorry, we can not apply a discount to your order" then asks for payment information for $24.99 a month.

So, the price went up AND the free trial I just got an email for doesn't exist. Slate. Good job.

Yeah, gonna try it on my home computer again, and then I'll contact 'em and see what's up. Just in case it actually needs to bounce your iLok before the checkout. Still, most every other promo they've run works fine just through the online accounts.

Update:
Just so this doesn't hang out there indefinitely with me bitching about Slate and no resolution. Tried it at home. Same problem. Contacted support. Within a couple hours they've updated my iLok account for the months I had coming.

Their support is awesome. No hassle, no "are you sure you did it right," just *BAM* solved. :hi5: to them.

Anybody on the fence? New comparison clip:
Non-slated.
This first one only has Slate on the mastering chain (FG-X and virtual bus compressors). No slate on the basic tracks and aux channels/bus strips.

Slated.
Same recording. About fifteen minutes slapping some Slate in.
-Every recorded track, plus the individual channel strips for the drum channels, get mix rack with virtual console channel and virtual tape machine set to 16 channel tape setting and limit pushed right up to the red.

-Each guitar track has Slate Lift added to the mix rack with a 1db high lift to give them some extra bite up top.

-Every bus and aux track has mix rack with virtual console bus added

Pretty stark difference. I may have over-harshed the guitars a little, but the whole mix sounds more complete to my ear. Worth it just for VCC and VTM alone. Turning VTM on and off with a track solo you can really hear a big difference. Especially on things like the kick and snare, and even the bass. Hopefully I get enough time to really work out a good mix with this shit at some point in the next couple weeks. :thu:

Those highs come through very nicely in the second clip. Do you use Slate drums as well?

Cool man. Definitely sounds great. I guess the $60 for the higher priced bundle works out for the extra $100 coupon.

I really like the coherence. The VCC on its own does a little of that, but I think the VTM made a bigger difference. Or maybe it's layering them up that way. Whatever it is, pretty happy with it.
