Luckily my current amp (bray modded jmp) has a great master volume and plenty of gain on tap so I can dial my sound in even at bedroom volumes. I won't buy amps anymore that require a pedal to get a decent overdrive tone without having to blast ears out.

Billy, get we get a permaban rule written in for such an offense?
At home I play really quiet. I use my usual Axe-FX rig into a Matrix SS poweramp, but even still, the volume is right down and sounds different. I don't really give a crap though. It's just for practising. I know I've got it dialed in to sound good when I can turn it up with the band, so I just deal with it sounding a bit pissweak at home.

Mine run away if I pick up the guitar. I don't even have to play a note.
At home it's either acoustic or electric at talking volume. I don't like pissing off the neighbours and to be honest if they were really loud it'd piss the hell out of me. My attitude is at home it doesn't matter what I sound like. My aim is to practice or work on new ideas, not placate the tone gods.
My band rents a practice room anyway so my rig is always set up there - I go a few times a week and play at proper volume where I can actually work out tones etc. That's pretty loud - anything up to cranked AC30.

Even at rehearsals with my IRT60H, I haven't cranked it yet. I've pushed it to about 40WATTs on the watt knob with the volume and gains about 3 o'clock, but it was just too loud in the studio against the other amps and drums. We are playing a couple of festivals in the summer so hopefully I'll get a chance to crank the mother.

That'd be this guy.

I suppose I could just show up with a handle of JB and that'd probably help.
How about just finding one other person to jam with. No pressure to be in a band and perform. Get comfortable with one other person and will be easier to work with the next person.

What you need to do is wear tight jeans, start your own amp company and then return here starting flame wars were you report everyone who responds while threatening to sue them.

Ovid, dont you have a Yamaha THR? That's all I play at home, and it happens to sound fucking awesome. My tube rigs stay at our rehearsal space

Roast your cats for dinner and feed them to hobos with boners.
But seriously, join a band or stop buying 100+ watt amps. Hell, even in a band setting where I could turn up as loud as my little black heart desired the 1959SLP was just too loud.
Start playing 50 watters or something.

+1
I don't even like playing guitar at home by myself. Shit, I track drums at the practice space once every few weeks just so I have something to jam out with at home.
If I wasn't in a band I'd probably sell most of my shit and keep 1 guitar an a small combo

Also, if you're looking for someone to jam with I'd encourage you find a drummer instead of another guitarist. It can be hard for 2 guitarists to mesh...especially without a drummer. Playing with a drummer allows the freedom of openly jamming an not having to worry about what another guitar is playing.
That said, jamming with another guitarist can definitely help improve chops too.

I only crank it up once or twice a week, it's fine for me. At the house I keep things quiet, actually I use my combo for the most part. Whenever I am playing at home, I am either writing new shit or flat out practicing (scales, exercises etc) and these things are better at a low volume anyway.
btw I have 2 dogs and 2 chinchillas but they seem to be ok with my playing

yeah one of my dogs is a coonhound and she loves to chase the chinchillas, but she doesn't bite them, she just gums them

the other dog (shih-tsu) completely ignores them, I've seen the chins walking on top of him and he just doesn't give a shit

The thing to remember with cats is that they can hear up to like 70kHz so even the brightest and most shitty amps we own sound deep and soothing to them.

Unless you live in a one room/one story house put the cats somewhere other than where you are playing.
