This. Nice low gain drive in less mode; extreme high gain in more mode. Works awesome as a boost or standalone drive pedal :thu:

That pedal is definitely on my "to buy" list. All the demos I've heard sounded killer.

I have more OD's than I care to admit. My favorite is a modded TS9. I made a mistake on two caps with the wrong value but when I tried it the sound was so smooth, reacted better to my guitar volume control, and had more gain available that I left it that way. I think the two 1uf caps were swapped for .22uf IIRC.

I miss my old Boss OD-1, that was a great little overdrive. I want to try the MXR dist +

haha... yeah, that was pretty much my reaction when I first started using it... even my amp tech/builder freaked on the pedal and he isn't partial to pedals at all but when I was testing out the last amp he built for me I brought the WIIO along with my tele to give the amp a good try and he couldn't believe the sound that pedal was giving.. I find it works best with brighter guitars since at it's heart it is a pretty warm sounding pedal but that doesn't mean you can't use it with humbuckers though, the EQ is pretty flexible.

Anyone seen the DR.Watt by OLC? That is pretty cool as well.

Oh man, even better ~ I much MUCH prefer warm pedals over bright ones. I'd rather add a little brightness from the amp if I have to than have to tame a bright pedal.

If you want to look at catalinbread wait for the new dirty little secret. You can switch it between Superbass and super lead modes.
I have the Superbass proto and it's awesome.

I like my MXR Classic OD way better than my Dist +, and it retailed for $30. For that matter, like it way better than the Dano TOD.

I haven't really played around with the Classic OD. The dist + has been on my list fora while.

I pretty sure its the Ultimate drive that is the OCD knockoff and while I think it sounded really good as a stand-alone drive pedal, I didn't care much for it as a boost. I found the same thing with the OCD. Works well into a clean amp, gives you a nice reactive dynamic drive, but into an overdriven amp it felt very harsh and indistinct.
Draelyc, if it's for band/ live use try a rat. Gain to edgy light/medium overdrive, Filter up until the icepicks go away, volume to a little above unity and you've got an overdrive sound with a clean amp and a boost into a distorted one. Obviously it's amp dependent but it's a sound that just seems to work and sound good with drums and bass. If you're mainly playing on your own it might be a bit too strident/ lacking in low end.
Plus, Gain cranked, filter off and volume up is a fucking incredible fuzzy, blowing up but still clear in the mix sound that everyone should have access to.

A good call on the Rat. It has been so long since I've owned an OCD I can't remember what it is like at all into an overdriven amp.

Just think of a sound you don't like, it's a bit like that.

The problem with it is that it's got a bit of a mid scoop going on, the bass is rounded out and amp-like and the treble already has all the overdrive harmonics you need. Then it goes through amp distortion and gets even more high end fizz, the bass is coloured again and the mid scoop doesn't hit the amp right.

Haha fair enough. I'm not in need of an OCD anytime soon, but on the off chance I get to try one again I'll give it a shot and see what you mean.

Wow, that sounds exactly like what happens with my Pale Horse od -- perfect description.
Man, there are some really great recommendations in this thread. Wish I had the cash to try half of them!

Never thought I'd say this... but check out Boss OD-3.
I have a modded JMP and with this pedal through a good clean amp I get very very close to the same sound.
Weird that a stock Boss pedal is actually good, but check it out.

I dont understand the Boss hate. Ive heard alot of KILLER sounding boss pedals. Granted they do have some turds..but the good ones make up for it.
I've re-housed modded Boss pedals, and had people think that I was uing high end cork sniffer pedals.
Another GREAT Boss pedal, IMHO, is the old Power Driver. My fave pedal for boosting Master Volume Marshalls. works OK with NMV amps, but works the best with something with a master .

The Power Driver is no longer made, but they pop up from time to time on CL & Ebay. I think the cheesey names for the pedal functions are what turned people off from them.
I miss mine. Wish I still had it.

I have 4 or 5 on my board. Most of them from the 80's lol. I had the power drive and didn't think much of it, but I never got a change to run it through my Ironheart. The CE-2 will ALWAYS be a part of my rig.

Good call on the od-3. Funnily enough I've seen it described as a poor man's OCD, and I can see the reason why, but it has the distinct boss slightly boxy quality that works well into a driven amp in a band mix, and has flatter mids.

Y'know what, y'all? Kinda along the lines of the Boss love going on here, I have to say after a little messing around this afternoon, that Bad Monkey is just a better all around pedal than I realized, and that's after I've had it for years and always thought of it as a great boost. Maybe it just gells really well with the Marshall voicing, but just now, with some creative tweaking, I was able to get a pretty good basic overdrive sound running into the Plexi set clean, a lot better drive sound than I had thought a TS/boost style pedal was capable of. And it stacked really well with my Riot, too. Could definitely gig in my old cover band with those tones, no problem. Color me surprised ~ pleasantly.

I'm still very curious to try some of these other "noice" pedals, but man, what's on the board now really hain't none too bad, I reckon.
