If I remember correctly, pdp is a green tea fragrance. Very nice.

Edit: I guess it’s sage. Still green.

BroSlinger wrote:It shouldn’t. I’ve used a number of bay rums, and the burn never went beyond what cinnamon, clove, and alcohol should do inherently. I just didn’t want to use it after a chemical burn because of the inherent “sensation” of the warm spices in all bay rums. It would have made a compound problem, when normally I don’t have issues with br.

Cool beans. It's a bit on the cinnamon and black pepper but, they don't overwhelm the other scents.
Looking forward to your feedback to incorporate into the next batch.

Whatever it is, it is pleasant but, after smelling it in the restroom, it kind of cheapened it for me!
The aftershave balm, in the metal, squeeze tube is nice. Eventually, I'll get some more balm but, not the shave soap.

Thanks for the heads-up.... $25 is a great deal.
Man, I just bought three razors; Occam's, Darwin clone and the Future clone -AND- two pedals; a Japanese OD (just arrived) and the EQD Speaker Driver V2.
I gotta stop the maddness!

oh man! i can relate to the face burn thing.. sadly, bay rum, which i actually LOVE the smell of, really tears up my face and makes me itch like a mug. i love ogalalla, but after shaving if i use it, i scratch like a cat with fleas. :(

generally i don't suffer too bad, but i stick with a splash o' unscented witch hazel nowadays and it seems to do the trick for keeping burn back.

anybody else use witch hazel? or know a good non-burny bay rum?

Crap. She’s in Paris and I don’t wanna spend anything right now just because she might need the $. Do they go on sale pretty often? That black one is dope!

Good shave today. I’m loving this brush. I also forgot how good the mj90 geometry was. Great razor. The old salt aftershave was awesome. Much much milder than expected, especially given the dark color. I love the savory pepper notes. It sets it apart from other bay rums. I wouldn’t change much about it. I actually wish it had more scent. Would make a nice cologne without the witch hazel. Thank you so much!!

I’ve never seen any razor on sale. I’m guessing they aren’t selling. I think you’ll be fine to wait until she’s back. The narrowness of the Israeli red personna excels in the is razor due to the positive blade exposure

Witch hazel doesn't seem to do a whole lot for me. I have oily skin, and generally have great success with alcohol, water, scent, and menthol.

RE: bay rums and burn. I've used the following.

Pinaud - burns like a mofo, but classic scent. worth the pain,. IMO.
Razorock - kind of burns. Unique scent. excellent.
Ajax's old salt - didn't really burn at all! :) smells GREAT.
Royall - burns like crazy. SO overpriced.
Dominica lime bay rum- didn't burn all that much, but hated the bottle. no flow restrictor. ugly. smell wasn't great.
St. Lucia - related to Dominica brand. but, better scent. much cooler bottle.
Master Bay rum - not sure. didn't burn like Pinaud, but also didn't smell as good.

She’s gone until the 27th, I was bored, shaved tonight. Really don’t need to shave every day, usually couple times a week will do me fine.

Figured after last one I could get a little more aggressive this time; was a mistake. Couple cuts; I have a weird part of my beard under my jawline that grows a different way than the rest, was trying to clean it up and started bleeding lol

Gonna have to go about halfway between passive and aggressive with this razor and these blades. Have the Personnas to try out as well. How long do you guys usually use a blade?

Other hand, I found some L’Occitaine Cade shave balm in my cabinet from last time I got into this, dig it. Nice low key clean scent.

i saw royall the other day... what?! almost 40 bucks? no thanks.. good god!

I tried dominica.. it didn't make me itch, but it also didn't really help the old face OR smell particularly good.. :D haven't tried pinaud, 'cause i always thought it was too cheap to be any good(!).. maybe worth a go-- i love the damn smell of bay rum- may also haveta try the old salt or razorock, now that i know they exist!

no matter how sharp a blade is new, if i do a 3 or 4 pass full face shave, i get two shaves. i know a LOT of guys who do better than that but i get nicked like a mug after that, and for 30 cents, i'm on to the next.

way i figure it, it's just as easy to move on than nurse a worn out blade and haveta take care of weeping cuts on my face.. :D i usually have 200 of the damn things in my drawer at any given time on purpose!

With exception of Gillette minoras, Swedes, or artist club blades, I’m done at 3 shaves.

Cade smells and feels awesome.

You need to get on ebay. 100 packs of everything good are between $10 and $15.

Btw, old salt is ajax’s Home brew. The guy on the label is his gramps. Great aftershave. DARK and m i l d.

So, this "sensitive skin" Tcheon Fung Sing Soap kind of burned me. Smelled great though. :(
Had trouble with this 3rd world Egyptian "Racer" blade. I was using it in a Mamba70, which was probably the wrong choice. The mildness of that razor is a problem with crummy blades.
The Tcheon Fung Sing Stupefacente weed aftershave kicks butt. It smells like a sweet mango bell pepper jungle mixed with burning rubber. Makes my face feel AWESOME. It erased the pain of my missteps.
Overall, an educative shave, with not too much of a bad aftermath.

Certain blades suck with certain razors.

Thanks for the feedback - it is appreciated!
I'll be making a new batch this weekend and when it's ready (in about a month) I'll send newholand and steiny a bottle.

Most aftershave manufacturers use essential oils to give their product the scent.
Using all essential oils means the batch is ready for sale immediately after mixing while, using dry spices requires a 4 week (minimum) brew time.
The only essential oil I use is, Jamaican Bay Leaf (Pimenta Racemosa) extract because, it's only available as an extract. Every single, Jamaican bay leaf is sold to essential oil manufacturers.
My other ingredients are right off the spice rack: allspice, clove, cinnamon, black pepper and I add tangerine peals.

Essential oils take longer to dissipate after splashing on.
The scent, imparted from the dry spices, evaporates shortly after applying the splash.... which is cool if, you work in an office full of bitchy people who complain about the cologne or perfume worn by their colleagues.

The bottle that you have is a blend of my second and third batches.
The second batch had too much cinnamon so, I made a third batch without cinnamon and combined the two.
I'm pretty happy with the way the blend turned out however, I'm going to kick up the tangerine a bit on the next batch.

Yeah, the Baby Smooth razors have style in spades. I find them to be pretty blade specific though considering the positive blade exposure (it's like a planer in a woodshop). Every blade has a slightly different width from edge to edge. The red personna is the smallest blade I've encountered, and it was tailor made for this razor.

The Tacit is my first Grooming Dept. soap. Today is my first use.

1. It's great. It has that Latex paint consistency I LOVE. Plus, with no scent, it doesn't give me chemical burns.

However,

2. It's not a transcendental experience. It's no better than Declaration Grooming, Wholly Kaw, Barrister&Mann, Chiseled Face, etc.

BTW, the discontinued Barrister & Mann Lavanda Splash was awesome. I normally don't go crazy for non-alcoholic aftershave, but this one is natural and understated. Made my face feel nice after a semi rough shave. (not the fault of the Tacit. It was the fault of the Lord Racer blade in the Blue BS razor, and my son clawing my neck last night. nearly drew blood)

You bad.. but, in a nice, clean shaven way!

I think I spent over $450 since, I got that Darwin clone. :freak:
Prior to that, it's been about 4 years since I bough anything, except for a few, replacement tubs of Nancy Boy Signature shave cream.
