You should see it around here. Microsoft is telling everyone to work from home. A big school district and 2 major colleges (enrollment about 50,000 combined) moving all classes online.

Honestly, this should happen regardless. I understand some jobs need to be outside/on site, like construction workers, police, store clerks etc. But there is no reason why most office jobs couldn't be done remotely. People are always talking about better MPG on vehicles, carbon footprint reduction etc... this is a solution that has been available for a long time now. Shit, I've been working remotely for 13 years and it is not an issue at all.

Unfortunately its just a mental shift that has to happen for far too many.
I can't tell you how many managers I've worked for/with/around that think people working from home = no work getting done.
Sad truth is these are often the same folks who don't realize how many under them are doing 20 hours of work during 40 hours of office time.

I'm someone who needs to get out of my house an into a different environment in order to work. Would probably be different if I had a dedicated home office though.

nah I used to be that way too, but you adapt fast. You'd have a strange first few months (maybe) where you need to learn to focus but you can get used to it quite quickly. Like Kyle said, it's a mindset.
No reason why you can't do Toby shit from home.

But I have to ruin everyone's fun in real time. Really hard to give disapproving stares to the misbehaved remotely.

And commuting a buttzillion hours a day while listening to podcasts is educational, fun, and oh-so-easy on the budget!

My bro works for a big govt. agency in D.C.
Yesterday, someone in the floor above him was diagnosed with Covid.
They sent everybody in the building home and are decontaminating the whole fucking building today.
He doesn't know when he's going back to the office.

LolZ.
A map with giant red dots that cover about 1/5th of the land mass of the Earth. So I would assume 1.5 billion people have it! Omg this is horrible. Who cares about how many tests there are! The entire world will have it soon enough, we need an “Everything is Ok” test since that’ll be far less

Is there a world where we can just take in information as it comes and take reasonable measures within the areas that we live or is it a prehistoric antiquated notion that something between the extremes is what's likely to occur.

It's not nothing. But it's also not the end of the world.

Speaking of grilling, Someone I know posted this meme on FB, so I had to reply...

This is Mark. He lives next to Bob
Mark did not panic because he is slightly OCD
Mark has 6 of everything
Bob didn't panic, but Bob didn't use common sense or plan
Bob is out of food. He can't go to the store until the order is lifted
Mark is cooking chicken wings on the grill
Mark is a nice guy and might toss a few over the fence for Bob
But maybe not, because they are spicy
Bob is out of toilet paper, too
That would be mean

Here’s what would be nice. There aren’t CONSTANT media alerts, clickbait type articles and neverending cycle of “news “ in this. Again that map 1776 posted, even if accurate, is absurd in its scale and depiction. Which I can only assume is why he put an  next to it.

For all the politicizing people and those who love pointing fingers at Trump. There simply was no vaccine or test for this. There won’t be enough for, essentially years. This doesn’t just sprout up and manufacture itself in short order. For any reliable test and vaccine to have been developed, it would have had to be started back when freakin Obama was in office. So yeah, I guess he dropped the ball too. Since I still see so many having to blame a political figure head. And fwiw I’m not a Trump hater or supporter, it’s just annoying when people do that cause nothing in this world is ever down to one mans decision. Especially in this regard.

And all the info we need is already out there. Exafro pretty much laid it out. Take precautions, wash your hands or keep hand sanitizer for a TINY bit better chance of not catching it. Although, this is essentially an airborne virus and well, unless you are wearing a full on respirator at all times, not these little masks that actually don’t fully seal, you are technically at “risk “.

Also like all virus strains this will be around awhile. Months to even years. Doesn’t mean it’ll be an outbreak, but that’s how these things run.

But already the amount of new cases reported in China is down a ton. Like 80% I think. Some common sense measures is all there is really. Like just about anything in life. Don’t be stupid and we all, except for maybe that one guy your friend of a friend is friends with on Facebook who didn’t make it..

are you trusting the Chinese for this info?

i agree you on the media but that is what they do. remember before the last midterms when people in the caravans had leprosy? wall to wall 24 hour coverage that mysteriously stopped the day after voting.

So Canada had an update last night with regards to new cases etc.... while listing countries these people have recently visited they said one person was in Trinidad and Tobago.... but no real information if they spent time here, were in transit through here or if they actually contracted it here.... needless to say people are making a big fuss now.... the sky is falling.... zombie apocalypse is eminent etc.... good times really

Some really good podcasts with experts on Rogan and Sam Harris just released.

I'm blown away at how much better a job podcasts are starting to do at topics like this than traditional news media.

I love how people are pretending that the media is trying to overly dramatize this for "political" reasons. Anyone who plays that card must have spent their entire life living under a rock, because that is what the media does about EVERYTHING. It's literally their business model. It's how they get people to tune in or visit their website every day/night. The idea that the media sensationalizing things only started recently, specifically to undermine a certain presidency, is beyond laughable, yet I'm hearing that very sentiment on a daily basis.

Because dear leader framed it as such therefore it must be.
So many (not all of course) Trump supporters have just given up on thinking for themselves in lieu of parroting whatever gets posted on his Twitter.

Apparently simple facts and common sense are "political" these days. My apologies, I didn't get that memo.

So, the next time an adult tells me that they believe in the tooth fairy, I will pretend that the tooth fairy is real, so as not to be "political".

It was more aimed at Kyle's comment, but oh well. You can facepalm all you want. FWIW, I agree with what you said. :idk:

EDIT: even though I just called out Kyle, I will definitely check out those podcasts he recommended.
