As much as I want things to be "normal", I'm not nearly as excited about reopening right now. None of the milestones that were supposed to have been met to reopen were and many states are still on upswings. Seems incredibly risky. I hope that we don't pay for this with 2x the misery and economic issues because we have to re-close two or three weeks from now...

Well it's slow going here , it will be awhile before schools and other things get back to any kind of normal operation .

I don't see schools reopening here soon at all.... Testing restrictions has opened up a lot here for the last week and a half, basically anyone showing any sign of Covid19 will be tested, previously it was only people with recent travel history and/or connections to people that are known cases along with the symptoms were tested, with exceptions for people that showed multiple symptoms,.... so far so good... no new cases.... Fingers crossed they begin a road to normal operations soon, the Gov't had said they wanted a 2 week period of testing before this would be possible and that period ends next Monday, so I'm really hoping that based on these results they start letting businesses operate again, even on a limited basis...

Lol, that's in stage 4 of Newsom's plan. It might open sometime in 2021, but I'm guessing closer to 2022.

Think about it: you're in an enclosed facility with people exhaling hard as the main attraction, and forget about distancing if you need a spot. About the only scenarios worse are probably crowded night clubs and arena level concerts.

I've never heard of that track, but I'm not surprised. Morons... There's nothing in that county (population is less than 10,000), so if they pull this off, a good percentage of them will probably be infected at some point. Have fun exerting your "constitutional rights". Pffftttt

The GOP Governor of Nevada said yesterday that his cabinet will no longer give public updates on the spread of covid or the deaths. This attempt to cover-up Trump's ineptitude is basically negligent homicide.

Heres the data so far (rounded):

Tests performed: 8 300 000 (link: https://www.statista.com/statistics/102 ... worldwide/)
Confirmed Cases: 1 200 000 (link: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-nc ... in-us.html)

Using this as sample data, 1200000/8300000 = 14.4% (this implies that 14,4% of the US population has already contracted coronavirus since testing began)

Converting the sample to the USA population of 328 000 000 (link: https://www.google.com/search?client=fi ... tion+today)

14.4% represents 47,232,000 people - who have potentially already contracted coronavirus.

Total deaths: 73,300 (link: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-nc ... in-us.html)

Ratio of infected people vs deaths: 73300 / 47232000 = 0.16%

The USA's number for death ratio is around **0.16% (true coronavirus death rate, instead of case fatality rate) based on current data.

**This number might be a bit low since the testing numbers to not specify if the testing is performed more than once per person, and does not stipulate if testing after a person has recovered from symptoms are included.

Hope this is not irresponsible of me.

Cheers

What’s irresponsible?

I’ve been trying to say this for idk, 2 months. Lol

People don’t want to believe this type of data but they believed the doom and gloom data of the early forecasts which were based on extremely limited and incomplete data.

I know this forum is not very big. But we can say there are at least a few hundred active members. Maybe more. Idk. And besides a handful of us who know we had it, I don’t any of us having any difficulty. Certainly no one dying. Altho my mechanic is still struggling. But the point being, this group is a t least some sort of sample base and I would guess it hasn’t killed a single one of us. If the fatality was truly at 3%, hell even 1%, you’d think it would have gotten someone within this group.

But whatver...

Even with this new data, we are gonna re-open and people are gonna act like the numbers have gone up and cases increase and blablblab. I personally won’t believe it. Because I can say for certain more people are out and about than have been. I live in a decently crowded suburb of Chicago. There is plenty of car traffic again. Every store I go into has plenty of people. I still see the fucking Walmart’s with full parking lots. I live in an area that has a section that is almost solely Latino and I swear when I drive thru there There is more people than usual! Lol. The Supermercado is overflowing.

My point is it’s essentially been game on again for weeks even while we are on lockdown. The numbers would have already increased if it was to actually be getting worse. So when the imaginary stay at home order is lifted and it starts getting reported of a spike agin, I simply don’t buy it. I’ve been in too many places, such as Menards(a sorta Home Depot for those who don’t know) and it’s packed every fucking day. Grocery stores. Walmart, Target, the actual Home Depot.. All these places by me at back at regular capacity. Long lines and plenty of people. Only difference is we are wearing masks. And maybe some effort to not be up in someone’s personal space but 6 ft? Nah not really

Yeah, but 2 months ago, you had absolutely no way to know how bad it would be. No one did. It is a new virus and the information we had back then was either from China , which is notoriously unreliable, or from Italy/Spain, which looked pretty bad.

So it's not like "you knew it all along". You took a guess and it seems like it could be correct based on what we know now, but back then it was still a wild guess based on your own bias and nothing else.

Now, you as a private citizen, can take a wild guess and hope for the best, that's your right. Public health officials, on the other hand, need to be a bit more careful/responsible than that. So based on the fact it was a new virus, with no known cure or treatment and the data was sparse, they decided on the side of public safety. And I am glad they did, even though it affected me negatively (I am on 2/3 salary and wife is unemployed). They made the absolute right decision based on the potential risk and data availability at that time.
Now that we have more actual, domestic data we can plan to reopen, in phases. I think the CDC guidelines for the phases are pretty good. But only if they're followed properly.

Also, just because people in your area are going to Walmart doesn't mean it's been business as usual or even close to it. Most work places are still closed. Schools, theaters, games etc still closed. Air travel, which is how the virus got here in the first place is down 90%. So it's entirely possible that as we reopen, numbers will actually go up and it's not necessarily going to be a hoax. This needs to be monitored closely and seriously until data is way more solid than it is, even now.
The question now is whether these numbers are going to stay within "acceptable" levels that we can live with as a country. From the current data, it seems that it could be possible. But we'll see.

I know 3 people who died from it so far. Its blowing up in Russia with over 10k new cases a day. Today wall street had its biggest day in 30years and unemployment is worst since great depression. Proves that wall street does not give a crap about real people or their blood. They wont be out in public to risk their lives for minimum wage .They will hide in gated communities or penthouses counting their gambling cash and government bailouts.
