I think it depends on the region/state and how the curve is looking. A one size fits all model doesnt work best imo

The infection rate is way higher than were led to believe and thats actually a good thing because it means the recovery rate is better than is thought. Factor in that the nursing homes are the worse hot spots and it is even better for the general population. (Not trying to diminish older at all. people just seeing the variables) The next thing is determining when to slowly open up business and that can and has to be done in small increments and sooner than later IMO

We watched Once Upon a Time in Hollywood this weekend. We're late to that party, but it was a great movie.

Last night we watched "Serenity", its available for free on Amazon prime. I wouldn't call it good but not bad either, with an interesting plot twist..

This is undoubtedly true, but it becomes a much harder fact to come to terms with when it's your loved one on the ventilator.

It's impossible to avoid all death, but as a society we owe it to ourselves to try to minimize it as much as possible by making responsible choices and a certain degree of sacrifices.

I absolutely agree and wasn't supporting the notion that people should run out and congregate. We need more common sense and less groupings of morons. The people I was thinking of with that post are the ones that need income so desperately that they will go back to work as soon as things re-open, even if they don't want to or are fearful. Hairdressers and barbers, small shop owners, etc. They'll be forced to be face-to-face with the public because they need to provide for themselves and their families. I'm sure many would prefer not to, but circumstances will force the issue...

I bet a few of those folks already gave their grandma a big hug after returning from the rally. that's the real issue.

That's exactly what my fear is. I have relatives that are definitely dumb enough to do exactly that, and grandma living really close to some of them. That shit gives me the heebies.

And Billy, you mentioning Serenity makes me want to rewatch Firefly/Serenity again.

I agree Billy but this is the result of 30 years of outsourcing and offshoring by corporate America.

Not a Trump supporter in the least but it’s one of the few places I think he’s correct on. We should be making things here and right now we’re seeing exactly why.

It's not - but it does need to be considered a priority. That goes back to my earlier comment. I won't be surprised if we (as a society) forget the lessons learned long before we have put in the effort to minimize the same risks and future disruptions. I don't know how many, or where, or what exactly should be stocked, but we need some kind of "Pandemic Response Centers" that can be easily mobilized to meet needs. This will happen again. Hopefully not soon, but it will. Nature of the beast...

I can't disagree with this point.

However, we've also specialized and silo'ed things to the point where we have the restaurant supply chains destroying crops/food at a massive rate because there's no one there to buy it, while grocery supply chains are running low on some of the same crops/food. It's wild to me that those two supply chains are so compartmentalized that nobody can coordinate between them and iron this out.

So even the things we DO make in America, we're fucking up. It's generation upon generation of thinking the way it is today is the way it will always be, and in the name of efficiency gearing everything to sit just so. Something goes out of whack and nobody has the flexibility to absorb the change.

While Rich was on the ventilator he developed a major leg blood clot. They were going to remove his leg but the family said NO. The family said it's time to remove him from the ventilator since he had been on it for over a week. He died within the hour.

Blood clots are somewhat common for people in the hospital that are immobile. It's fairly routine for patients to be fitted for the air-inflated leg massagers (not sure of the medical name...), even for some same-day surgery procedures. It's possible COVID-19 exacerbated that issue, but just as likely it was a result of hospitalization and being immobile on a ventilator.

No, blood clots are not common place in the ICU. Patients usually get heparin or fragmin injections twice daily. Sequential compression devices (SCD) are also used on any immobile Patient. Covid 19 seems to be causing a blood dyscrasia for Patient some alot more severe than others with micro clots being reported. Google "Covid Toes" TPA is also now being used to dissolve the clots in the severely ill, with continuous heparin IV to try to keep new clots from forming. Scary stuff out there as the Medical field learns more about this virus on a daily basis.

We used to have an entire wing of the federal government in charge of researching possible pandemic scenarios. We cleaned them out because someone thought it was a waste of resources. In the years leading up to this.

It's about 120% guaranteed if we do gear that back up, it'll be wiped out by a future administration as a waste because they'll believe it couldn't possible happen again. History used to be a great teacher. Now it's viewed as a nuisance, if it's viewed at all.

Foreign investment in China accumulated rapidly in the 1980s and 1990s (2nd only to USA) and we were told that would be great addition to the WTO and trade etc in the early 2000s. We would get more access to their markets etc but they also put in place high barriers and tariffs and didnt quite live up to their end of the bargain. Factor in they have stolen intellectual property as well along with releasing 3 fucking pandemics in 15 years and we need to get off their chain supply list ASAP (At very minimum cut it dramatically)

They have taken advantage of us for 30 years (Both Reps and Dem administrations) at least the current administration has pushed back harder against the commie govt and thats a start

I didn't say commonplace, I said "somewhat common", but what I really meant was that it's not unheard of. I'm not an expert and I certainly could have worded that better. I was simply trying to make a point that you can't necessarily assume that the blood clot was a COVID-related response. I see way too many comments on this topic that are assumptions or causal relationships without support. I just think that is dangerous. There's already enough misinformation...

I agree but I don't see it a political or government issue. It's a mentality issue. I've been working in large corporations for almost half of my life now and I've seen a LOT of outsourcing/offshoring. Not a single one of them was started by the govt or by the Chinese or whatever... every single time the idea came from an executive board consisting exclusively of obscenely well paid born/raised Americans trying to find ways to increase their profit margins/bonuses/stock value with complete disregard to the ones "below" them or the long term effects in their own country's economy.

It's not a start at all. Push back on what? No one is holding a gun to the head of these American CEOs to send a call center to India or a production line to China, they are happy to do it on their own volition. Yes, we need US manufacturing but this not an "administration" issue as much as it is a corporate mentality issue.

The Chinese just took what we gave away. I can blame the Chinese for a lot of things, but our outsourcing/offshoring is very much an American issue.

At face value, everything you say is true. But to K-Biz's and 1776's point - the government can do a LOT to persuade those 'independent decisions'.

Stop rewarding those companies that outsource, and start rewarding those companies that keep it 'made in the USA'.
