Dude, brush acquisition syndrome is real. And it’s bad.

They sneak into your den like furry little friends.

Drop tomorrow for Grizzly Bay, he's got a blue one I really want to snag...

Dayyyyumm that's snazzy!
I still only have one brush, but definitely looking for something stiffer on the next buy.

I can feel it coming. Hopefully I can stop after the GB drop if I can snag the one I want.

Dude check out Spiffo.com

He’s got some really nice stuff that’s pretty reasonably priced. Think this one was like $60.

Stiffest one I have is a 2 band Fanchurian, really soft tips when it’s wet tho. Might look for something like that.

Killer SOTD:

I could use the Rasozero Agrumella (lemon) every day and be happy. I'm glad I have a kilo of this stuff.

The Rockwell was great. Sputnik was gentle.

The Razorock/Italian Barber Amici aftershave kicks ass. It's a spiced orange. For being spicy, it fades fast, but it felt soo good.

Loving this Dogwood brush. I can't figure out what kind of knot this is. I may have to ask the source. It might be a blend. It kind of feels like boar?????

today was an 11/10. outstanding.

BTW, prelude, check West Coast Shaving regularly. The infinity brushes are really fancy, and they drop pretty regularly. The synthetic is like $65, and the badger is $86 I think. I love mine.

Gene should be along any minute now to help you out Steve.

SOTD:

MdC is legit.....the Rose is a little low key scent that'll take some getting used to, but P is gonna love it. This stuff lathers like nothing I've ever seen before, it's almost a little unbelievable. Spiffo maiden voyage, killed it. I dunno what knot he's using for these, but I dig it.

Incoming:

24mm badger tho

Also incoming cause I scored on the Grizzly Bay drop today:

This one is getting his TDR 26mm v3 Fanchurian. Stoked, I love his blue ones.

Yes

If you want to use a safety razor on your head, I would probably start with the face to get a feel for how they work. The angle can feel quite different from a cartridge razor.

SOTW - this is the setup that I've been using all week at the lovey and scenic, Jersey Shore. Going back home tomorrow.
The Hoffritz Travel Razor fits nicely in the metal box on the lower left. The box can also hold three blades.
Not sure why I only use this razor on vacation because, it gives an excellent shave. More aggro then the SLOC but, not crazy aggro.
The Simpson Wee Scott works well.... but, not well enough for daily use.... it's definitely just for vacation.
Digging the A&E Plum soap - the scent is weird in a good way and it lathers well.
Three shaves this week and they were all 9/10

Worked out alright.

This is my new polished dart. Canned foam in a rush probably wasn’t the best way to audition an ultra aggressive razor.

Still got a good shave. I’ll give it a 9/10 just because it wasn’t super enjoyable. Should have used the Sabre or Rockwell.

It was gone by 7 hours. I hate this stuff.

I’m going back to Italian week. Fuck this Avant Garde shit. I want this weekend to end. And I don’t want to go back to work tomorrow.

Ajax,

Tell me about the jersey shore. I’ve always wanted to go. Did you go to seaside heights?

Btw, Ariana &Evans soap makes a truly special lather. I would use it more but the scents aren’t my favorite. I want the eau de l’orange Verte, but I’m sick of accumulating soaps. btw, the eau de l’orange verte is based on the Hermes fragrance I’m dying to try.

Back to the Old School SOTD:

So, this is some ancient Razorock Classic in the old TFS Figaro can. Beautiful lather. Beautiful scent. Great performance. Makes me wonder if TFS is still making soap for RR. I have to assume they are. I used to use this quite often, because half of it is gone. I wouldn't mind 3017'ing it since I have another can of the new stuff.

TFS Linea Intenso Bergamot aftershave. Kick ass. The scent lingers even though it's mostly top notes. Very impressive.

Sabre felt kind of rough today. Not sure what's going on. Too much buffing, but face ended up fine.

Brush is great.

I'm going 9/10. Stoked to use more obscure Italian stuff that hasn't gotten a fair shot lately.

I've been to both Seaside Heights and Point Pleasant - they're very similar... both have some cool rides and the typical side-show games: shoot the water gun to pop the balloon, ring toss onto a sea of coke bottles, throw a softball at the lead milk bottles, etc.
The rides are much smaller than a 6 Flags type park but, larger than the local, traveling carnivals that pop up in community parking lots.

I road the Slingshot... one of the most terrifying rides I've ever been on... it's a spherical cage, attached to bungee cords, with two seats inside. They shoot you into the air, about 150 feet (not so bad) and then, the cage falls towards the ground, stopping about 3 feet from smashing into the ground! I will NEVER go on it again!!!

I also enjoyed, "Shoot the Geek"... a guy with padding with a boogie board shield walks back and forth while you shoot him with paint balls... it's really fun when there are 5 or 6 people shooting him at once! It's a guys sport - the woman all thought it was gross... there's no accounting for taste!

Our group, of about 12 family members, have been going there every summer for about 30 years. I joined the family 14 years ago. Before the hurricane, that destroyed Seaside Heights and about 10 miles of homes, we stayed in tiny bungalow cottages that could squeeze in 3 or 4 people. After the hurricane, many of the bungalows were replaced by giant 8 - 10 bedroom houses. For the last few years, we stayed in an 8 bedroom house in Normandy Beach, between Point Pleasant and Seaside Heights.

The beaches are nice and over the past few years, the water has cleaned up enough for dolphins and rays to come close enough to see from shore.
Not sure what the water will be like after current EPA regulations have been repealed.

EDIT: Staying in Seaside Heights is kind of dicey.,.. it's loaded with dive bars and cheap motels. I don't think I would stay there, even if I were in my 20's.
The area between Seaside Heights and Point Pleasant is quieter and better for families.

I probably have 1/20th the soaps that you have and I feel the same way!!!

Okay, so I keep seeing people mention "blade chatter". (not on this thread, luckily)

What in the fuck is blade chatter? Seriously? You think the blade is flexing and vibrating because it's not clamped well enough? You think the razor is designed incorrectly?

I think your technique is to blame. Nobody complained about blade chatter from 1904 through 2015. This is a new thing invested by pussies who have crapola technique. I have a feeling the guys with moss scuttles face lathering on youtube for 20 minutes are the ones with fucking blade chatter.

Okay. I just had to get that off my chest.

I have like 90 razors, and I guarantee they aren't fucking chattering.

I think, when people say "blade chatter" they are talking about the whole razor hopping up and down on your face.
It's most noticeable when doing a first pass, against the grain, especially with two or three days growth.
The blade gets pulled under downward facing hairs and is suddenly released as it cuts through, only to get caught under more downward facing hair and pulled back against your face .
Basically, it's bad technique - if you have a heavy beard with three days growth, ya gotsta do that with-the-grain pass first.

No man. People seriously are talking about "micro chatter" like the blade vibrates too much to give a clean cut if using certain vintage razors.

I'm not shitting you.

It's one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. Then, there's this urban legend about vintage blades being thicker, so the razors for which they were designed didn't cause chatter with said blades. It's horseshit because a guy with vintage blades and precision calipers proved they haven't changed thickness at all.
