yeah - it's nerve wracking - no harm in getting checked - unless it is the chance that as soon as you walk out of the test, you could be exposed!!

Apparently people are getting creative in finding ways to deal with the equipment shortages, specifically ventilators. Apparently some people have figured out how to modify breast pumps to turn them into ventilators. Kudos to the people finding creative solutions to some of the problems we are currently facing.

We were tested Sunday afternoon at a temporary drive through test facility in Montgomery county, had results Tuesday morning from LabCorp
In between the news was saying LabCorp was backed up 6-8 days.

I have heard there is a test out there that can get results in 15 minutes

Yep. They called me 3 hours later. This is a new test, I guess. The clinic was empty too, I was the only person there the whole time (aside from staff - and Kimmi lol).

Hope we can get an antibody test out soon that can be read that quickly for Healthcare workers. I am out on personal leave but would cut it short if I knew whether I have contracted the virus or not which I think I did back in January. I'm sure many healthcare workers on the front line would appreciate the test as well. Glad your test came out negative.

Medical ppl: Hydroxychloroquine + zinc, or Quinine and zinc.. a bunch contradicting articles on this. Are some of you able to shed some light on this? Is it a complete waste of time or may it have merit (studies pending)?

It is experimentation with a few combinations of drugs. Nothing more/nothing less. Other EXPERIMENTAL combo of drugs also being used.

The results look interesting and MAY suggest some promise in treatment, specifically the hydroxy azithro combo. However only 6 patients received that treatment so it is very very premature to draw conclusions. That combo can also cause QT prolongation which could lead to fatal arrhythmias so it may cause more harm than good. A bigger sample size would help detect that.

I have some concerns with their methods and statistics (any peer review process will always have “concerns”). The population of patients seems to be only mildly affected. 6 in the treatment group were lost to follow up - 3 were moved to ICU, one died and two dropped out. No losses in the control group. These losses were just removed from the stats, not censored, which may alter the statistics.

It also seems that treatment was focused on mild cases, who typically recover on their own, not more critical cases. Out of 26 patients receiving treatment, 1 died and 3 were moved to ICU (15%), while none in the control group were lost. That raises some concern that while viral shedding decreased, there may be significant adverse effects. It’s too small of a study to know if that’s the case, but the way they removed patients from analysis wouldn’t reflect this. However this study was powered to look at viral shedding, not adverse effects so I wouldn’t draw conclusions on safety.

Finally, there’s the question if the degree of viral shedding has any clinical impact. The one patient who died was PCR negative the day before they died. I could see how stopping viral shedding could be beneficial in decreasing transmission by mildly affected or asymptomatic patients. However you can’t conclude from this study that this treatment will save lives - because it wasn’t designed to prove that.

My interpretation is that it warrants further investigation and potential adverse effects and clinical impact should be evaluated with a larger cohort.

Two other issues: not all control patients were tested daily and they assume that you’re positive until you test negative. Ie if you were positive on day 2 but test negative on day 4, you were assumed to be positive on Day 3. This could affect the statistics when looking at positive rates for a given day.

There is sometimes an increase in the percentage of positive patients, meaning a patient that tested negative one day then tested positive the following day. This may be due to the sensitivity and specificity of the test, or intermittent viral shedding, among other possibilities.

The more you look into the details, the less conclusions you can make. This is why science is so frustrating and also why it will take so long to get an effective vaccine. Good science takes time and needs a large cohort, but it starts with these smaller (albeit flawed) trials that help justify moving forward.

I think a majority of people are making, or gonna be making more on unemployment than they were at their job.

Amazon Fresh is wonderful...if you can get it. You won’t get all your normal stuff but it’s nice to not have to be exposed as much. Only thing is it’s slammed.

I basically build a cart when I’m a few days out and check a few times an hour if there’s availability. You have to be fast when time slots are available and it’s the last step in the process, so you need to have it ready to go

How much you make in unemployment is based on how much you were making before you lost your job. No one gets more in unemployment than they were making in salary unless someone screwed up the assessment process.

Fuck your facepalm. My company told the employees that were being furloughed we’re gonna be bringing home 875 a week after the federal tacked their unemployment money on top of the state unemployment. Those guys make between 17 and 23 dollars an hour

Actually, from what I’ve heard this is incorrect. Because of the extra $600 a week for everyone, people under a certain threshold will be getting more money. In some areas that was $45k-$50k

I’m not sure if everyone qualifies or not, but there’s been widespread discussions about it. I don’t claim to be an expert though or know which of the multiple sources would qualify here as a credible source.
