Most people are way more image oriented ..... the actual music is much farther down the list of how you are perceived.

Being like 65 years old must be awesome for you. Wear whatever you want, Jedi master :thu:
:) My age is on my profile if anyone is interested. I wear the same thing most of the time ... black jeans & T shirt. I have not wore blue jeans for about 20 years. I really do believe for most people how they see you visually is the strongest influence on how the perceive you no matter what you are doing. Like the saying goes ... you are who you pretend to be - so be careful about who you pretend to be.

My bad, I thought you were being sarcastic lol

Sounds like we have similar ideas

Your alright with me ..... I never take anything on the internet very serious. It is very easy to have miscommunication. My wife is Latino & English is not her first langue .... believe me - I deal with it every day.

Several years ago our drummer showed up at a gig wearing blue jeans & a Hawaiian shirt .... and we teased him about it for a long time. Starting that night on the microphone's. I also saw a band local here where everyone was wearing different fast food uniform's .... to be honest I thought it was great. I was in a glam / thrash band years ago & the other guitar players brother had a costume store in Hollywood .... everyone would get a laugh if they saw some of the nonsense we put on for gigs....

No bare feet, sandals or flip flops.
No white sneakers.

Beyond that I don't really care. I do take my bass players glasses from him before shows nowadays also. Sucks getting old. :)

Yeah, glasses are another big one for me. Don't do it for the most part.

Mainly I'm talking about thin normal every day glasses. The big thick framed glasses don't look too bad in the right indie outfit.

There was a bar here who wouldn't allow bands to bring drinks on stage. Nobody would play there. They changed the rule.

Seattle is like this. We broke the rules of course. :D

Billy had a good point up thread... This works the opposite way as well. If you show up dressed to the nines and then your band sucks you look like a poser. :D

It's the same discussion we were having the other day about strap length. Stage presence/swagger/cool is something you either have it or you don't. If you do, you will probably be able to get away with just about anything. If you don't, your best hope is that no one will notice you shouldn't be there.

I lost count how many folks with proper gear, attire etc that still look completely out of place on stage. Others look natural without even trying.

This shit is innate. You can only make it a little better or a little worse, but you can't completely change it around.

yeah i probably look way stupid with the road case, but that cab dont got no wheels, gotta maintain.

crowd usually doesnt notice it from what ive seen. and sound guys are usually unduly impressed by it. usually get comments like "whoah, someones serious about this shit" lol

and that is a good point about overdoing the wardrobe. thats what this whole thread is about, the fine window of common sense and just generally not looking like a dersh.

When I played out, I usually just wore a black button up shirt (long sleeve with the sleeves rolled up, or a short sleeve), regular fit Levi's, and either black basketball shoes, or black steel toed boots, & a black baseball cap. Black sweatbands (the ones like athletes use) on my right wrist occasionally (for hot weather / sweaty shows).

Lol.. some of you think this shit out WAY too much.. Details like rolling up your sleeves is something you actually thought about? I can't relate..

For me it's simple wear whatever the fuck you want.. If you suck, then you suck. It don't matter how you look.. Same thing goes in the opposite.. When you fucking kill them you can be wearing flip flops, shorts and your own band shirt.. I'd guess I've seen more shit bands look the part of "proper"stage look, so I'd probably give the advice to not look the part... If anyone were to leave before you ever play a note cause of how someone looks, then they're a douche anyway..

If you can't bring the energy to the crowd with your music and stage presence, then no amount of dress up will ever matter...
