Re: Borderlands thread
when you get in the sweet spot you can shoot at Terra but none of his projectiles can hit you....
Re: Borderlands thread
You know what's funny? I've put in several hundred hours into BL2. I think like, 550 hours (more, actually), and I've only even tried Pete twice (once at level 34, once at 45), and haven't seen the other raid bosses. I've also never tried more than about 5 minutes of TVHM. I beat the all the missions in the game and DLCs, and then start a new character.
Thing is, it lets me listen. I can't listen to podcasts and audio-books while I'm on the computer, it's too distracting. I've reasonably dominated BL2 to the point that it lets my hands and eyes do something while my ears listen. It's not exactly auto-pilot, but it's just engaging enough that it puts my ADD or whatever at rest. Hell, I actually play with the volume off. I'm to Hero's Pass with Krieg, and I have literally not heard a word he's said. I haven't heard 99% of the DLCs, either. I put my earbuds in, put on a podcast, and go for a few hours.
So... Borderlands is my zen? Go figure.

Misplaced priorities and squandered opportunities.
Re: Borderlands thread
That's story mission Pete............you go back after you beat the DLC.......and he becomes the raidboss (harder).
IMO, the only reason to enter TVHM, is to get to UVHM....... then you get another 11 skill points.....which can make you pretty badass.
I think that's what is great about the borderlands series............means so many different things to so many people...........and yet, I would agree with the Zen statement.
I complain sometimes here, but I certain love playing Borderlands for that reason.
with krieg, he has some of the best dialog!

That's what I meant, raidboss Pete. He's barely a boss in the actual storyline. I don't event think I got his shields a quarter of the way down as raidboss, and that was with a walking-electric-death Mechromancer.

Oh.

That's pretty much what I do too. I've tried all but Krieg...........I just suck.....or don't have the right exploits figured out.
I hate seeing the videos of like 6 second kills and all that. Hell, I can't even stay alive long enough to kill Pete once!!!!
I have gotten him close solo though.......not quite sure how, but 1/4 health left and I died.

Re: Borderlands thread
I've never beaten Pete solo but I've come close... to me the key is you NEED to have some sort of either fire resistant or corrosion resistant shield this way you only have to turn the sewer taps on half as much, I find the enemies that come out of the sewar just as tough as Pete eventually...I find the inflammable Bee has worked well for me since it is fire resistant AND you get the bonus amp damage. To knock his shield down use the most powerful electric grenades you can as well as a powerful electric gun, with zero I go in to deception as much as possible, one to hit him with the kunai and two he gets hit with the electric blast when he rushes in to the hologram, three if gives me time to recharge my shield and grab some ammo. Once his shield is down switch to a slag grenade then rinse and repeat, this has gotten me some decent success soloin' Pete, but I've always come really close and never quiet killed him...
Re: Borderlands thread
Apparently the valve on the right (when facing both valves) only releases spiderants.................the left releasing rats.
much easier to deal with spiderants.
Novas don't hit you if you can't see pete.......there is a place to hide, but Pete has to be farther away, and you have to have the wherewithal to get behind it when he novas.
You're right blocking either fire or corrosive with your shield does help.....then you only have to hit the valve every other or every third time.
Although, having something to shoot in FFYL is handy.....if you can keep them off you while you attack Pete.
......and don't forget the glitch spot.
Tried that, and it helps, but still can't beat him.

there's a glitch spot???
Re: Borderlands thread
Well, sorta. By the pipes, you can get into the corner and jump over and over......to climb up the the upper rim of the structure.
He can still get you, but mostly you avoid novas.........and sometimes he'll jump up there and get stuck.
Either way, you can just hammer him without having to run around constantly.
This is what I'm talking about: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XFALkC0_TZE
This one is way more badass:

Re: Borderlands thread
Well, tried a glitch solo last night.
With my siren, there's a way to boost and activate the immolate skill. (+100% fire damage while in FFYL)
Basically, use a +5 immolate class mod with fire damage boosts and negative health. Hoplite shield, Bee Shield, Slag grenades and fire sandhawk.
You disable badass ranks, equip hoplite, exit. Health is now zero. the game treats zero health as being in FFYL....which is how immolate works.
switch out the hoplite for a bee.
throw slag grenades, wait for them to pop, phaselock Hyperious, then spam him with the fire sandhawk.
3-4 seconds, and not even one clip. done.
It's pretty cheap, but I can barely damage him legitly.
I have to say it was pretty fun to drop him like that though.
This method doesn't work for most raid bosses. You can't take ANY damage while doing this.

Re: Borderlands thread
I tried to solo Pete a few days ago, lvl63 is a tough SOB!! I didn't try the glitch spot though... might have to this time because I kept getting him down to about 40% health then he would just destroy me... I will probably give the glitch spot a try over the weekend.. right now I'm pushing through Far Cry 3 for the second time and having way too much fun!!
Re: Borderlands thread
I gotta give Pete another shot too.....he's the only other one, where I think I have a chance. lol
Need to play other games as well.
I have Bioshock INfinite just waiting to be played.....
Far Cry 3 huh? I'll have to look into that.
Although, I'm not a fan of real heavy/serious games. Is it one?

Nah, it's not. I think it maybe wants to be, but it's not.
It's definitely worth a playthrough, it's a nice mix of stealth and quick-response combat. Aside from that it's nothing groundbreaking, it is a Ubisoft game so there's a lot of repetition.

Bioshock Infinite is excellent, great story and solid gameplay. It's one of those games that you want to keep playing because you just want the story to unfold.
Far Cry 3 is just fun.. it's totally open so if you want to play gun blazing or stealthy you can... the story in this one is pretty good too but for the first half of the game I just spent time hunting animals, taking out bad guys and doing little side missions then going on to the story mission when I was ready to progress, since certain skills don't become available till you get to certain parts of the story. I just love the total freedom of the game and all the different ways to do things... for example there are enemy base camps that you clear out to get stores and fast travel spots throughout the map, you can go in just full on kill everyone, or sneak around and silently kill people or sometimes you'd notice a caged animal in the camp, if you shoot the cage the tiger/bear/leopard will get loose and fuck shit up for you while you chill in the bushes or on a cliff watching them get destroyed...

I've often considered freeing the animal in the cage in those hideouts, but never did because honestly a single bear or tiger tends to be more of a bitch than a dozen pirates. Does it not come after you as soon as it finishes with them?

I do it from far away and look at the Bear/Tiger just go to town... depending on the strength of the Pirates they actually kill the animal but then there are way less Pirates to deal with... also it keeps them distracted so I can pick off the guys hanging back with my silenced sniper rifle, this way you get the 1500 XP points for getting the camp without being detected... besides once you have a shotgun a Tiger/Bear/Leopard really isn't much to deal with

I forget if I have a shotgun or not...I haven't played the game in a little while, and I know I've got a good ways to go. I forget which event was the most recent that I've finished...(spoilers)
raiding the underground temple
rescuing a friend from the docks where you perch above and snipe the pirates
burning the pot fields.
It's all kind of a blur, but one of those was the last thing I've done. I have a feeling it was the second one. I've successfully killed a bear, and also a jaguar, but not a tiger. Thing just won't die.

get a shotgun... makes life WAY easier you just have to time your shots really... of the two shotguns you can get right away the 2nd one is the better of the two
Re: Borderlands thread
tomorrow is the day!
Hoping I can squeeze in 45 mins before work....but I have a gig late tonight so I'd be surprised.
Otherwise, work>DLC4>sleep>work>DLC4>sleep........should have it beat by then.

oh the DLC comes out tomorrow?? sweet.. we still need to hook up and take on some raid bosses man...
Re: Borderlands thread
Yep. Should be able to download early tomorrow, Central time.
Probably going to run the DLC solo this week, then do it co-op next week.
Raid bosses are impossible. lol

if the DLC comes out tomorrow I'll probably run it solo during the week, my wife is off on a vacation with her Mom so i'm home alone so there will be nothing to stop me lol...
Raid bosses are not impossible man... I'm pretty sure the two of us could take out Pete, if I could take his shield and half his life away solo adding a second player in to the mix should be enough to take him out.

link to the release time for your area. xbox.
Sweet....I find that I like to run everything once solo before I co-op. co-op is a blast, but things tend to be rushed.........I haven't gotten to enjoy Big Game Hunt solo yet......
Pete is possible.......my bro-in-law and I couldn't be him though........well, I think we did once.....and couldn't again.

There are various techniques for each raid boss.....which we never follow. lol
Can't just waltz in there with your playthough build, in most cases....or at least I can't and expect to have a chance.

Re: Borderlands thread
nice... it says 4am Tomorrow morning... will have to leave a note to myself to start the download before I go to work in the morning so it will be ready when I get home..
as for Pete, I think once both players have the same Bee shield, preferably the inflammable or alkaline so that way the drains will only have to be activated when both players need it and one person has a slag weapons constantly keeping Pete slagged it would be possible.

Re: Borderlands thread
I would probably use my Sal if we tried to take out pete........a slag rubi helps be stay alive, and he can do some major damage and tank a lot of the damage dealt.
Only have to hit the valve every 3 novas to stop the DoT.
Hard to keep the Bee charged, unless you're hitting the valve every nova.
I get some major damage buffs if my shield is down.........or if I use a rough rider shield.
