SOTD: I'm working from home so, I had time to give myself a DFS with two nice, nics under the chin.
Vie Long Horse Hair Brush, Pre de Provence soap, Ogallala Sage & Cedar Bay Rum (spiked with a dram of Violet cologne), my new, Future clone....

My straight collection...
L-R starting at the top: Dovo Bismark, Wade & Butcher, George Wostenholm & Sons Pipe Razor, Dubl Duck Goldedge, Henckles 17 Friodur, Serephim Cave man, Monopole.
The stainless steel, Henckels 17 Friodur is, IMHO, the finest straight razor ever made. The W&B has a smile (curved edges) and is a bitch to sharpen.
(They look very shiny because, they all have a coat of mineral oil to protect from rust)

Ajax, nice setup! That brush handle is sweet. I had pre de Provence at one point. Not sure why I got rid of it. It must have burned me.

Nice!!! TOBS makes nice stuff. Used their rose aftershave for a few years.
EDIT: or, was it their rose shaving cream? Yes, it was their rose shaving cream!
EDIT2x: Wrong again! It was George F. Trumpers Coral (rose) Skin Food (aftershave)

Thanks bro!
The Pre de PRovence soap smells nice but, it isn't as slick as some other products. Once I use it up, I don't think I'll be ordering any more.

Got the Merkur clone on an Amazon wishlist, got a bday coming up and have to leave her something to get me; grabbed this stuff in the meantime....had it with this shifty cartridge shit. Got that one Gene's been going on about for soap. Report back when it shows. Teck II got really good reviews.

You sir, have quite an eye!
Amazed that you spotted the Ocams hanging on the second level (left door), below the Slim!

In one of the drawers, is a Wilkinson Sword Classic, plastic DE that I really like...

no way man.. of all the fun stuff to sorta collect, at least it's not something totally expensive or over the top!
alright, lemme throw out a question to probably you and gene...

cause nobody else seems to give a poop save for the stein.
if i were to go with ONE razor to sorta punt the 34c over the top-- what would it be if i have a hella gnarly beard? good weight, good handle, and just the absolute best with a feather that's just the absolute coolest thing to come to hand under 50 bucks?

Get the $11.99 Future clone. It's heavy, well built and adjustable so, you can make it as agro or non-agro, as you'd like... plus, it's cheap.

TOO EASY.

not that i doubt ya at all-- is it that good?

The Future clone really is good.
However, it sounds like you need the Merkur Slant 37C... yes, get a slant. GET BOTH!!!

i always wondered about slant razors-- what's the point of that? i've never used one-- is the razor canted in the frame?

The frame puts a small twist in the blade. The theory being; it's easier to cut something if the blade is on an angle... like slicing a loaf of bread and holding the knife at a 45 degree angle to the bread as you saw through it.
It's a very aggressive razor. Most people buy it for kicks but, I'm not sure anyone uses it as their go-to razor.
Probably, the most popular DE is the Gillette Fat Boy, adjustable. I think they were made from the early 1950's through the early 1960's. Mine is a 1962.
EDIT: Googled it... 1958 to 1962 only.
The Gillette Slim looks the same but, has a thinner handle - I've been told that the head geometry is a bit different as well.
I like the way the Slim shaves, better than the Fat Boy.

funny enough-- gene sent me one of those! it's gold-- looks exactly the same! i like my merkur a bit better cause it's just heavier- though i can't say it didn't give me good shaves- but didn't really find the adjustment really made THAT much difference. maybe i just didn't pay enough attention or my beards just too thick..

i just read a quick article bout slant razors. man.. sounds like it could be awesome, but contrarily, that it'd rip my face off..

status report?

The slant isn't as dangerous as it looks... however, they don't call it the Heavy Duty for nothing!
Fatip brand razors are supposed to be aggressive but, I never owned any. I think Gene has so, he can tell you more about them.

Ajax, you made the right decision on the original occam’s.
My gold Oren, it’s like the refined shape was an afterthought. They took an already plated/anodized razor, and did the grinding afterwards. It looks Jenky. The handle hollowed out isn’t an improvement, and the weight doesn’t feel different either.

For under $50:
You’re describing the fatip grande. Solid brass. Made in Italy. Shaves are incredible. Italian barber has the best prices on those.

WHAT? no shit.. they've got the nickel fatip grande on sale for 19.99 right now! nice-- an open head razor won't cause issues with a thick beard will it?
