First of all, no one is suffering from the effects of The Affordable Health Care Act (Obama Care)... they only just started signing people up on October 1st and it doesn't kick in until 2014.

Everytime I go to the Emergency Room at the local hospital for a few stitches, the first thing they ask is, "Do you have health insurance?"
Luckily, I have a job that provides me with coverage.

The next time you're in the ER, look around. You will see several people who have been waiting for several hours to see a Doctor.
These people, for what ever reason (pre-existing condition, lost their job, etc) do not have health insurance.
In my neck of the woods, there can be as many as 20 people without insurance waiting in the ER to see a Doctor.
The hospital is obligated to help them but, the hospital forces them to wait a really long time in order to discourage them from coming back.
Who pays for these uninsured people when they visit the expensive ER to get a prescription for their urinary tract infection? We the Tax payers do.

Wouldn't it make sense to send, someone with a yeast infection, to a less expensive clinic or a General Practitioner for treatment... especially if the tax payers are paying the bill?
This is what the Affordable Health Care Act (aka Obama Care) is all about.

Kaiser Health has spent millions of dollars spreading lies about the Affordable Health Care Act because, they see it as a threat to their profits.

After his Health Insurance Company stopped paying, my cousin had to sue to get his daughter into the hospital. He won and she was treated but, WTF???

They said that Social Security and Medicare was going to ruin the country when they were first proposed.
Yes, there will always be people who try to take advantage and steal from programs like SS and Medicare.
Yes, people will try to scam The Affordable Health Care Act. There are always bugs (in any new system) that will need attention but, it's better to have Affordable Health Care in the long run.

If someone doesn't have health insurance it doesn't mean that they're getting free health care that taxpayers pay for. Plenty of people get billed and pay accordingly. Sweeping generalizations are sweeping.

You really gotta find ways to reduce that tax liability. Because I feel the same as you. The more I work, the more hours I put in- the more that gets taken from me. I agree with taxes, but not to the extent that we are now 2nd highest in the world. Bullshit.

Keep your "income" within a bracket, write as much shit as you can off as business expenses. Stuff that would normally take a lot of discretionary income. Go on vacation? Make sure you conduct some sort of business there with someone in person, now the whole trip and associated expenses are a business expense, etc.

Now people need to provide insurance so that when they get sick it's not the rest of us footing the bill for a quad bypass or some such.

Heres the problem with making laws that modify "normal behaviour" and not laws which reduce exceptions to "normal behaviour". Making a law to stop murder doesnt stop the exceptions that still violate the law. Making a law to require insurance is no different. So using an example of some abusers of a hospital emergency policy to justify changing the law is ludicrous. The majority are being punished for the actions of a few. The ACA as it stands is just a windfall for the insurance industry. If we had went the " Medicare for all "route then it would have been a simple and easy system to adapt. But it would be decried as "socialism". Who hates socialism more than the filthy rich??? NOBODY. We have been lied to about socialism since Hearst printed his first paper. IF we went to a single-payer system tommorrow then the subsidies for the pentagon,big-oil ,the airlines,General Electric etc would have to be cut to help fund the system. Life would go on but the Koch bros and their lobbyist friends would have to share some of their ungodly profits to help raise the standard of living for us all.

Hey man. I'm a huge proponent of single payer. But the fact remains that there are some things in the ACA which are good. I think over the next several years we'll work the kinks out and honestly, we'll end up with a single payer option.

Is it the law I'd have chosen? Good God no. Is it better than what we had? I think so.

Regardless of what you think about Obamacare someone explain to me why the US can not (or should not, your choice) have some kind of healthcare? Every other first (and most second) world countries has this. What's different in the US?

And don't give me the "we're too big" cuz that don't fly. You can't use "too big to fail" and then use "too big to succeed" because both translate directly to "too greedy to change".

Disclaimer in case you want to play "shuddup, you're a Canadian" card: You that know me, know I spent a few years living in SoCal and loved every second of it. I have NO anti US bias at all. I would move there permanently but for one thing. The cost of getting sick scares the hell out of me.
