All states need a ‘Mind Your Own Fucking Business’ law...none of this shit should have ever happened and wouldn’t if this dude wasn’t trying to advocate for shit that’s none of his business.

 I lol'd IRL!!!!

I blame Saturday morning cartoons....
When I was a kid, I wanted to have super powers so I could push bad guys around and never have to take any shit.
As an adult, I STILL want super powers.
I guess some people (not all obviously) buy guns to make them feel like they have super powers? This guy certainly did.

It appears that Drejka's defense team chose not to use the SYG argument. That's kind of strange first of all because the DA felt this fell under SYG. And secondly the SYG law was changed in 2017 by the Florida Supreme Court to put an extreme burden of proof on the prosecution, effectively giving the shooter immunity unless the prosecutor can prove otherwise in a trial before the trial. Maybe the spotlight of the press was too bright on this one.

As of October 1, teachers can now carry firearms in school here in Florida, and the laws have been written to protect them if any students are killed. The law has also been changed to provide SYG protection to law enforcement. BSO Deputy Peter Peraza won his trial by using SYG. He shot an unarmed man and then he and his fellow deputies covered up the scene to make the victim look like an imminent threat. So hooray for police cover-ups.

A recent study in the JAMA found that homicides in Florida have gone up 24.45% since the SYG laws went into effect in 2004, firearm-related homicides went up 31.6% and justifiable homicides went up 75%. In non-SYG states white-on-black killings are ruled justified 8% of the time. In SYG states white-on-black shootings are ruled justified 36% of the time. In 70% of the 200 cases tried so far in Florida, the victim was unarmed, yet the defendant has prevailed 67% of the time. 60% of the defendants had been previously arrested and 79% could have retreated. So hooray for the Cato Institute's bill to increase homicide. Now that it's been institutionalized, it's time to send this off to marketing. I'm thinking:

Homicide, an idea whose time has come.
Like a good neighbor, or I'll unload.
America runs on handguns.
Good to the last bullet.
Betcha can't shoot just one.
Shoot more.
Nothing runs like a victim.
I can't believe I unloaded the whole thing.
What's in your holster?
Say it with bullets.
High caliber delivered.
Don't leave home without it.
Let your fingers squeeze the trigger
We deliver bullets.
Reach out and shoot someone.
Once you pop, you can't stop.

Or maybe, "for the men in charge of change, the greatest tragedy is indifference." Just riffing.

I'd definitely get behind a MYOFB law. It's probably easier to legislate than the otherwise slightly better 'Don't Be An Asshole' law
