It was what makes the show perfect. Yes, the Red Wedding was impactful to say the least. I hate "safe" and this episode definitely was not safe.

I haven't read the books yet, because I don't wanto know the story, so this was a surprise to me as well.

Just finished watching the episode and all I can say is that it's about fucking time something significant happened. And I say that in the best way possible as I'm completely enamored by the story.

Can't wait to see the aftermath of tonight's events!!!

They did the same thing in S1. Killed Ned in ep9 and the finale was the birth of the dragons. I aint worried about that.

I've been waiting for this episode since the start of the season JUST to see peoples WTF reactions... needless to say my Facebook wall was flooded GoT status updates... as for the last episode there are two events from the books I can see them going with one would be stupidly epic so much so I think they will be leaving it for the 4th season, the other which I think they will be going with could be pretty damn awesome if done right.

Good call. I just hope the series lasts long enough to see Arya kill all the people she's promised to kill. I have a feeling at the end she marries Gendry, and then they join Daenerys. I hope to all hell she is the one that kills Cersei at least, and that it is a long and painful death. If you've read the book please don't ruin my dreams with a spoiler.

I can't say I'm going to ruin your dream... but... I can say that none of that has happened... lol... who knows it might... Arya DOES become capable of killing the people on her list though... I will say that... she slowly but surely has become one of my favorite characters in the series.. which probably means Martin will kill her soon lol

Yeah, she has been my favorite since a few episodes in of the first season. She is such a great character and a great actress. Her and Dinklage alone are worth the watch

I'd agree... and mostly because the two of them probably have done the characters in the book so much justice IMO... they really nail the personas, who are interesting to begin with..

Yeah.... Arya has a very interesting journey ahead of her... it does get worse for her before it gets better though.. but she still is pretty damn awesome when things are bad... that's what really made her become one of my favorites... truly Ned Starks' daughter..

As much as I like the books, this is something that has really started to bug me. Any character that is built up to be sympathetic at all is either offed in some gruesome manner or suffers a fate worse than death a book or so down the line, while the multitude of nasty characters rarely get their comeuppance. I don't appreciate the blatant pulling of emotional strings just to generate shock, and it's gotten pretty predictable who is next on the chopping block because it's just his M.O.

Nah, IRL my experience is that nasty assholes get shitcanned eventually, though I guess you have to think about Westeroes as a place where Idi Amin might be considered a nice guy.

Yeah, I know. It's not so much that the baddies never get theirs, it's that in book 5 I was basically waiting for the entire book for one character in particular I knew was going to eat it, so there really wasn't much if any tension built up or surprise when we finally got there. Same thing happened to a lesser extent in book 4.

yeah... they did it pretty well... there were some small details missing but I'd say they hit all the major points and maybe made some things more brutal... makes me want to go back and read that part of the book again just for reference.

I stopped reading Jordan's books after I had finished some 900 plus page paperweight, and realized that absolutely nothing had happened.

Martin can be like that... but I think what this series really suffers from is the way it's broken in to POV chapters, so when you have to read through a chapter of a character(s) you really could give two shits about it becomes really tedious....

This seems exceedingly familiar to me.

My wife wants to watch the series, but INSISTS I read the books first so that I'm on the same page with her. I make it about two hundred pages, give or take, every time I try and then set it aside for another six months. It feels EXACTLY like the Jordan books I tried to muddle through, realizing after three of them that literally not one god damn thing had happened in almost 1500 pages, and I had hit a point where I didn't care about anybody in the story because nothing ever happened to make me care. What's really sad is I bought the first four books all at once for my Nook, and still haven't made it all the way through the first one.

Those Jordan books were brutally cold. And not in a chilling way, just meh. Some of George RR Martin's short stories are amazing. The long stuff seems to be written by a completely different author.

as far as the series goes the first book was a medium pace, second and third were pretty fast paced, lots of battles and fights etc.. the forth was slower than molasses.. the fifth starts slow and picks up speed towards the second half...

Books 1-3 make an excellent trilogy. I am quite happy with the entire story line ending there. I pretend that books 4 and 5 don't exist.

I'm actually listening to the first book on audible and finding his writing to be way too descriptive. You don't have to describe how every piece of clothing folds around a body when someone is walking. It's actually quite unlistenable. I'll have to find time to actually read it I think.
