7 hours power outage last night
It went into the the night. We lit candles and played hide and seek in a dark house. Hung around in the living room chatting while I played a little acoustic guitar. Cool break from the norm.

what's the ambient temp in your neck of the woods these days? when I lose power and my AC goes down I might as well sleep in an oven...

It was rough for the last couple weeks but started cooling down. When I got home in the evening it was high70's-low80's and came down to like 68 by nighttime.

I know. I really need to get auxiliary power for the keyboards and samplers.

It was cool. The acoustic has been on our minds lately cause music-juniors both enjoy playing and 13 is going hard in the paint with becoming a legit musician. Aside from being in the advanced jazz band and switching from clarinet to alto sax (fuck yeah!) this year, he signed up for this extra-curricular guitar class where Fender literally send him a guitar. It's on it's way, and he's attempting to snatch pebbles from my hand.

Yeah it made me think of hurricane country folks.
My kids were so ready to kill themselves not knowing what to do without electricity/tv/devices.

Some of my favorite moments in parenting, like literally as close to the top as all those proud moments and milestones reached, are the times when I'm stopping to smell the roses of their harmless suffering and inner turmoil.

My grandfather was born in 1896 (he had my mom late, when he was in mid 40s) and died in 1994 at 98 y.o.
His generation saw the biggest amount of change in a lifetime. He used to tell me the craziest stories, like how he was in his early 20s when he moved into a house with electricity for the first time, he didn't have a fridge until he was in his 30s etc... Shit that we absolutely take for granted today simply didn't exist for him until later in life.
I did see some change in my lifetime - mostly computers and cell phones - but nothing like what he saw. He really was born in a completely different world than we live in today. Even by his death in the early 90s, that was a radical change from what he grew up in.
He was also a classical guitarist and a really good one at it.
Now imagine that electric guitars did not even exist until he was in his late 50s. It's crazy.

Back in 2000, someone from (I believe) Wisconsin Public Radio interviewed a woman born in the previous century. When asked what were, in her opinion, the most significant developments of the century, the woman replied, “screen windows and doors.”

Dude, my dad was born in 1937 and I feel the same for him regarding the amount of change. His toilet was an outhouse, radio was their TV, jets were created around that time, and the Model T was still a thing. It's funny thinking about those that lived during the time of your grandfather moving forward, because it's like those were still kinda outlaw days. I remember my dad telling me when TV's were a created that the only people that had one was a general store. They were the only ones in the county lol

Re: 7 hours power outage last night
115 degrees here in the San Fernando Valley . . . I was able to hold out without AC till 3:30 PM. Same forecast for tomorrow. I'm expecting an outage this weekend.
I wonder how hot it is in Death Valley.

I read that Woodland Hills (of all places) hit the highest mark of 121 degrees this weekend.

Nope, thank you for asking. We live about seven miles east of Woodland Hills and there's something about WH, close to the south-western edge of the Valley that gets extra crispy there. Maybe they're too close to the mountains and therefore get no breeze, I dunno. My phone said 117 degrees for my area. It felt like a hairdryer set on high on your skin. At 7PM I saw customers sitting and eating in restaurant parking lots in 106 degree heat.
There's been almost a 40 degree swing from the lows to the highs.
Today was more than 20 degrees cooler. than yesterday.
Dunno 'bout other people, but here we say "earthquake weather."
