Thanks Ajax - goes to prove that mitigation definitely helps.
Just have to balance the harm from the virus compared to the harm from an extended shutdown.
I hate the term 'the new normal' - but it looks like we will be dealing with effects from this for quite a while.

Sweden's leadership is actively trying to cover up their mistake...

Countries can print money and give it directly to poor people to help. It's not like we keep gold in reserve anymore.
The US is already doing it.

i just dont understand how stupid and basic you have to be to think this is a simple a vs b decision.

WE ALL WANT TO GO BACK TO WORK!!

your plan is to do it right now like complete fools and then most likely close back down in 2-3 weeks when cases spike. you are either cool with lots more people dying than need to for the sake of money or you are denying science to think it wont happen.

most logical people are saying maybe it would be smarter to re open in a way that would be less likely for that to happen as that would be much more devastating to the economy in the long run to start up and shut down multiple times.

While this is true, and it sucks massively, projections have shown that if you don't do some sort of lock-down and just go about business as usual the far greater death toll will ultimately have a much larger impact on the economy than having this up-front shut-down will ultimately cause.

Granted, that all hinges on the possibility of being able to open back up some day once there is a large enough group of people immune to the virus to actually bring society back out of the cave. Scientifically, nobody truly knows for certain when that point will be reached.

It's a balancing act where nobody, not scientists, not politicians, not economists, not epidemiologists actually knows where that balance will be found.

That is the plan - a phased re-opening.
There are only a few states (Georgia, ?) that are expecting to just go straight to wide open.
and then some others that never did close down.

Sweden is going to get higher deaths as of now. They knew this. But they also knew this isn’t going to go away. And you can not shut down the economy for an extended time and expect there won’t be FURTHER deaths and hardship from so many people now being put in a position where they can’t afford the necessities to survive. Look, we have evidence of that outcome exactly 100 years ago. This killed millions via starvation during the 1920s Great Depression. That IS going to be out future the longer the economy stays shut down. It’s not a matter of money over wealth. That’s frankly, pretty stupid people consistently say that. Until we don’t operate our lives on the transfer of money for people’s services (IE work!) and we go back to hunting and finding food and shelter every day like our ancestors, the economy is simply a WAY we decided to survive. Which is what we earn in money affords ya the ability to survive by buying food and shelter and all the other necessities. I really don’t see how so many refuse to see that’s what SOCIETY is. You can’t remove the fundamental way society works to be successful and expect it won’t have massive ramifications on the population as a whole..

Sweden knew this going in and their numbers were predicted to shoot up, but they also predict they will actually be near 40% infection by months end and will be almost at hers immunity. They took that route. The only difference between them and basically everyone else is they didn’t quite “flatten the curve” and they’ll be at immunity before everyone. But we will get there too. As will everyone else. And below the numbers of those who have had this are now being assumed at up to 25-50x the reported amount. This is gonna teach herd immunity here before any vaccine. We can’t simply hide from it. It will destroy more than the virus. And the Great Depression is proof

But for certain we are damned if we do and damned if we don’t. The question is which one is truly gonna be worse. And so far all the “projections” have actually been nowhere near being come to truth. And these projections took into account social distancing etc. so so far the error on the side of caution hasn’t reached its level of doomsday predictions

I'm not sure how familiar you are with the country, but what's interesting is that Sweden has no international airport. You land in Copenhagen, Denmark and then drive across a very long bridge to get to Landskrona, Sweden (we have manufacturing facilities there - I was there for a few days late last year). Given the travel traffic and population density, you would think Denmark would have higher numbers. That's no proof that Sweden's approach is at fault, but it makes you wonder...

Also I don’t know about where you live but I can post pics of Walmart’s parking lot at 3/4 capacity nearly every single day. A few weeks traffic in the Chicago burbs(which is still brutal) was like living in some small country town. That truly was a welcome break. But yesterday I won’t say it’s back to “normal “ but clearly noticed there was WAY more traffic again. People really aren’t staying on “lockdown “ and whatver business are open are actually pretty effing busy. So, you tell me how this makes a ton of sense to keep fucking all the little guys. The little restaurants who maybe have capacity for 25-30 people and can’t be open, yet Walmart has literally 100+ people all thru out the day? It seems pretty unfair to say the least. I don’t see how a restaurant couldn’t simply seat ever third table or sumthin. It can’t be any worse than the crowds I see at groceries or home improvement stores, etc

I had to go to a doc last week and I was shocked how many cars were at Walmart in the suburbs. You drive past a mall like old orchard with 0 cars...makes sense. Then I drive past an area with a Walmart/target and both have probably 50+ cars in the lot (Walmart more)

I feel bad for the restaurants but there’s no easy way to seat people that’s safe. Sure, you could seat them back to front with room in between, but they’ll still have to walk past tables on the way out.

Like I’ve been saying though, I don’t see how a large metro area slowly opens this up. It’s inevitable that it’ll spread when they do. There’s just too many people and places they can/will go. Imagine something like guitar center that’s hands on...

true points about the little guy - but if you have a 100 seat restaurant, and you can re-open, but only seat 30 people - you are probably going to be losing money.
I read somewhere that 80% of restaurants may not re-open - I can only hope that referred to a reduced capacity scenario.

a great example of a business that will have to change the way they operate.
No more pulling whatever you want down from the wall to play stairway - the handling of instruments would have to be VERY limited, with wipedowns/steriization in between people.

100% agreed that it has to change, but you’ve got 2/3 of the instruments either on the floor or within easy reach.

And asking people to play less might work for some people, but they’d lose business by not letting people freely try guitars. I’ve ended up buying guitars I didn’t necessarily plan on because I picked it up and tried it.

And agreed on your restaurant point. Margins are generally super thin already

That might be the easiest way to get to your facility but Sweden does have international airports.
I flew to Stockholm a few times myself when I was living in Europe. Gothenburg has an intl airport too.

A once size fits all approach is NOT appropriate for this

Lets remember that EVERYONE (including experts) have made mistakes during this pandemic, from the W.H.O. to the feds, to the states, Dr Fauci, the media alot of so called experts and im not bitching about it, im just saying this is a fast moving virus with so many variables that we truly dont know the true numbers. - think about it for a second how many people have had the virus and NOT know it and its not reported or never went to a doctor? Im willing to bet many thousands if not hundreds of thousands, i dont know for sure but its a big possibility and im hearing that many are being misdiagnosed when they dont have the virus,,.

Each state and municipality will have to be super careful and there will be some fvk ups and mistakes made, you can bet on it, I saw that some states want to open gyms and hair salons 1st (and i MISS going to the gym BADLY and my hair is getting stringy long lol) It will be a tough tightrope to walk for everyone

Just took a little murderbike cruise through town to try to clear my head from the business end of business today. I wanted to drive past the park because it's a nice relaxing ride even when people are around, and the streets are mostly empty at this point. So I head down there and they've got roadblocks everywhere. Which is stupid. You can't drive past the park, but looking around the roadblocks there's literally dozens of idjits wandering the paths. And definitely not giving each other six feet of separation as they pass.

Ya, I need a haircut too and it sucks my Salon is closed down. In Spokane, it is is cut your own or let it grow. Cut the kids hair yesterday and it turned out reasonably well and he loved it. Used a clip on plastic guard on the electric haircutter thing he uses to shave his Balls and just shaved away. My standards are a little higher. :rawk:
