Life After COVID?

I've been counting my blessings. I've been working from home for nearly a year, my job isn't really affected by the craziness of the last month. Wife is good, we are healthy, we are doing what we can to help friends and family. I've ridden close to 400 miles on my bike since the lockdown. I have been woodshedding guitar for many hours a day, every day. Honestly, I've been living a quarantine lifestyle long before it had a name. I've been unwittingly preparing my music room for a lockdown for several years! In fact the only negative change to my life has been the fact that I haven't been able to play with my band. I miss those guys, I miss writing music together, and playing / performing with them.

Which got me to thinking about what its going to be like when this unique human experiment ends. I am optimistically thinking that the lockdowns will be lifted, but realistic enough to know there will be a "new normal". I can't wait to get the band back together, but will there be anyone to play for? Are venues for local bands still going to exist? Will people even want to congregate at a dive bar with a bunch of strangers?

I am curious what changes you GGFbros expect to see in your local music scene. Are you doing anything to prepare for it?

I'm still trying to be optimistic about the future prospects. The world has been shown that the brick & mortar way of doing business isn't entirely necessary - especially if we come out of all this with a huge pent-up demand / buying spree over the summer, and get business rolling again. Yes, many small businesses will crap out, but many of their services will still be needed in one form or another. Smart folks will adapt and overcome. Stupid ones may meet teh Darwin. Sucks to suck.

Life after sounds like it's a long ways away at this point. Going for a walk seems about the only relief we get now. Though that's sort of out since we keep having these freak little snow-drops where in a span of about thirty minutes we get two to three inches with gusts of wind upwards of thirty MPH or more, then it just disappears again. Weird, wild shit. And last week we were in the seventies. WTH is going on with the world?

I'd hold on to whatever job you got like a life raft. There were many thins about my job that I really disliked and grew to dislike even more as time went on... until this shit hit the fan. Even though many aspects became more difficult I'm just glad I have something to wake up and take a crack at right now. A lot people don't have even something they'd rather not be doing right now. It's actually a luxury.

Depends on what you do for a living. I've seen so many missteps at the Hospital the last 1.5 months it forced me to go on leave until the left hand knows what the right hand is doing. Not sure right now if I will go back. I do not see any normalcy until a vaccine is available which is likely a year away. I am concerned we will lift restrictions too soon and see a second more serious wave. Hope to God I am wrong but I see the early signs of pushing to reopen non essential Business. Wealth VS Health.

I'm allergic to simple binaries. This pandemic apocalypse has exacerbated the condition.

Boy I wish it were all as simple as Health vs. Wealth. Because funny thing about wealth... it's led to the sharpest rise of the global population out of extreme poverty. Nothing saves lives like having enough means to eat, shelter yourself, and get some basic medical attention. Add some education and the ability of people to bargain their labor for a wage and what do you know... instant life expectancy extender.

We need mass testing, and we need the testing that determines if you've already had COVID-19. Even with the small probability of reinfection, people who've recovered from COVID should have a permit to work again. We need to put this economy into second gear and there's smart ways to do it.

Which sucks for most local bands as trying to get a group of people together in a room with zero technical issues for money on a regular basis was difficult enough; let alone the unenviable task of gathering a group in the digital domain and trying to do something worthwhile and enjoyable for the people watching.

So far; most band friends on FB on my feed are doing solo vids. Obviously much different than setting up virtual concerts/events for a group. The idea of doing that sounds simultaneously interesting and maddening at the same time.

This is what the fuck we’re dealing with. The shit is WEIRD. Massive (for us) 6.0 whatever earthquake 3 weeks ago with literally hundreds of daily aftershocks still, and snow. In the middle of fucking April. It’ll be 70 degrees 1 day and 34/snowing the next.

It’s wigging me out and the constant changes are about to make me sick, I’m having a hard time with the fluctuations.

As far as band shit goes we just let our spot go, nobody has been there in weeks except to pick up gear; we’ve all known each other 10-15 years and no one (including me) even want to try to hang out and jam. Fuck it, if it goes it goes.

We’ve always kept a spot downtown in a building the owners set up for local musicians, good monthly rates, good soundproofing and assholes get booted quick; it’s always a good bunch of people, we share beer etc....I cruised thru last week and every room (20+) is empty of gear and furniture. Looks like it’ll be a long time before anybody goes back.

Damn, man. That's brutal. At least we don't have the earthquakes. Yet.

I hope some of the bands that were up and coming get a chance to put together SOME form of entertainment for their fans. Or some of those big tours promised this year get some online action going or something.

Not much of a change for me. I'm an introvert and have been working from home for over a decade, so mostly I'm just missing some martial arts classes, eating out at restaurants, and going to music stores. As far as music goes, I'm just an amateur, rarely gig and mostly just dabble in home recording. My work schedule is 3rd shift Friday-Monday evenings, so I was missing most shows anyways. After the pandemic, I'll probably resume seeing live music when I can, but I wasn't going out much anyway. I believe the local music scene will bounce back.

I do have a music project, a few other guys my age get together about once a month to play some music. We all have day jobs, it's just fun to make some noise. The guy that coordinates the group contacted me and named another tune he wanted to add in next time we're able to get together so I've got some homework.

I have only been outside the house to take walks or work in the yard since 3/13 since I have a couple family members in the house with additional risk factors so I have to be careful. I am getting used to not having fast food and am eating better overall.

I've been enjoying this quarantine mainly due to money. I used to go out to bars all the time, but having to stay home this long has gotten that out of my system. I've spent alot less money on booze and I'd like to keep it that way after we get set free

I am looking forward to the end of the quarantine also due to money. My roommate got furloughed because of COVID-19 and is only making half-pay. Because of that, I've been paying all the rent and bills. I had to put off paying off some debt so I can cover him while he's cut in pay. Fortunately, he'll be able to pay me back and pay bills and rent after his company can get some projects that got postponed started up again. I've been fortunate enough to be able to work from home and still get paid regularly. I also had enough saved up and the stimulus check to keep my roommate and myself afloat during the quarantine.

I also can't wait for this to end so my band can get started back up again. COVID-19 brought it to a halt as well as an old band of mine that was planning to get back together for some shows. I don't even have a band room now. The rent went up and everyone in my current band needed to free up money due to work related pay cuts. Hopefully our spot doesn't get permanently taken away by another band before we can pay again (a buddy's band also practices in that room, so the room will still be there).

I guess I'm lucky because I am used to working from home and my whole band is just Kimmi and I. I just got a new computer so we can start working on a new record even though we just released one in February.

This Friday I will receive my first paycheck with the 30% pay cut so that's going to suck. But I'm doing good all things considered.
