Yeah, well, stupid people in Chicago, and those who willingly travel through there, are stupid...

Apparently there are plenty of stupid people in DFW too.
When a travel ban is enacted without any forethought, what would you expect to happen?

Working half a day today just to help out one of my guys.
Went past a Mormon church, and there’s no one there.
I’ve lived in UT off and on since ‘90 and I’ve never seen that before.

Travel ban should have allowed anyone with a return ticket to use it but, no new departures and no new ticket sales for travel before May or June 1.

Remember 9/11? Yeah, it takes awhile for new measures to be introduced and normalized. It took months of long lines and delays once travel returned to normal after 9/11. Which in this case, I doubt this sort of testing will be introduced after this “pandemic”.
So yeah, it obviously fucked up travel for a few days. Whether people were in fear of being stranded or had to get somewhere for whatever reason before travel bans potentially get worse. I kinda doubt this is just a ton of people trying to get their vacation in. But everyone is stupid is more likely, yeah?
Here’s a great post by one of my favorite people with a big platform. He must be dumb tho. Because he’s also pointing out the media’s toxic role and also be careful of the information of experts at this point.

Mike Rowe is a pretend blue collar guy. Why would I listen to him over the director of the CDC?

Illlinois just shut down bars and dine in restaurants for 2 weeks. The whole state. Drove thru and carry out still allowed.
I think it’s a good idea, but people who don’t can blame the morons near Wrigley that crowded the bars yesterday

Fed dropped rates to nothing and enacted qe 5. Futures are bottomed out afaik.
Plus, there are gunshots all around the south side of town tonight.
This is unnerving.

So, with the possibility of negative rates coming, should I pull my cash now and get rid of my direct deposit?
Re: Coronavirus - WTH is going on?
Today is day one working remote and homeschooling our 5 year old. When my wife and I were dating, she was going to college to become a teacher, so she's super stoked to homeschool.

Yeah I worked at home for two+ years to get Impact up and running; there was one August that the only time I left the house was to run to the corner store to grab some cigarettes about 11pm. Store is right around the block and I was back inside of 5 minutes. I don’t think I could do it again...
P said they shut down a ton of resorts/casinos in Vegas and suspended school K-12 until at least April.
You guys watch Osterholm on Rogan?

Re: Coronavirus - WTH is going on?
Took a trip to the grocery store Saturday to buy our normal weekly supplies and that shit is atrocious. The paper products aisle looked like a storm hit them, just a few scattered items here or there. Cleaning supplies wiped out. They were pulling pallets of paper towels and toilet paper into the store and people were just grabbing off the pallets as they pulled them in. Beans were demolished. Rice was gone. Dairy aisles seemed relatively normal. Frozen pizzas were down to like three brands. All the cheaper brands were completely decimated.
As we're checking out the guy in front of us goes, "Why would there be a run on soap? Don't people normally wash their hands?" That's kinda what I wanted to ask about the toilet paper. Do you not normally have toilet paper? WTF?
The paranoia around here is epic as shit. Went to a drive-thru to grab some eats after shoveling the driveway. Now, out in the cold, hard work, I'm a touch flemmed up. So I cough into my arm as I'm sitting there waiting and the dude behind me literally slams his vehicle into reverse and starts backing away as fast as he can. Seriously? WTF?
The CDC banning gatherings of more than 50 people is gonna cause all sorts of issues. No churches, no larger meetings, no entertainment venues like theaters and bars with a stage will be having anything happen. The people that staff these places will be out of work until they can reopen. Some of the kinder companies are making arrangements to make sure their people are taken care of while they're down, but certainly not all of them. And what happens to the paycheck-to-paycheck people when they miss a month or more of work? Fucked.
I'm grateful that if it becomes necessary to stay home I can keep working and being paid. Being the external web developer means my life wouldn't change much other than sitting in my office at home instead of in my cubicle at work. But not everybody's going to be so lucky. If we have to shut down the plant, the consequences will be devastating for a lot of folks.
Don't know how this is gonna shake out. The only way to get away from the constant stream of chatter about it is to bury your head in a book or watch movies you already own. Literally everything else is just virus, virus, virus at every moment and as important as it is the information be available to people, the mental toll of hearing nothing BUT that is already getting to be rough. And some people don't have the faculties to hear this amount of panic and not go blindly insane over it.
May we live in interesting times indeed.
