Amen.

Our mayor just declared a state of emergency and anyone caught organizing a group gathering of more than 250 people will be fined and possibly jailed. Most public events were already being postponed or outright cancelled, but this upped the ante.

Then our clinics and hospitals announced that they will no longer take walk-in patients displaying symptoms. You have to call ahead and use special access if you have flu-like symptoms at all. This may be more a reaction to the panic-stricken public trying to do a run to the clinic or emergency room every time junior gets a sniffle.

Some of the weirdness surrounding this is partly laid at the feet of our government's slow reaction. It started as a brush-off which makes the ramp-up seem way more sudden than it's actually been. Which causes a feedback loop of the public going cray, the press reporting cray-cray, the public going cray-cray-cray, etc.

May we live in interesting times indeed.

I guess what makes this unique and panic-worthy is the not-knowing aspect of it. In this not-knowing stage, people conjure up all sorts of ideas and act upon it.

We just have to stay still for a period. Yes, our economy will take a hit, but better a battered economy than dead people - welp, for most people with souls at least.

I have a friend who's a flight attendant (red flag). She lives in Japan where they closed all public schools over two weeks ago. I emailed her about it and she said her kids go to a private school so they're still open. Then a few days ago, she texts me saying, "We just landed! They closed my kids school so we hopped on a flight" (her parents still live here in California).

I was like  .

She's a nice person n' all, but however an over-reaction this may be, I don't think she understands the seriousness of all of this. Just eliminate all non-essential travel.

Yeah, there's a girl I work with who was telling me how cheap flights are now and is looking to fly out of Chicago to either Texas or Florida. At this point, I'm like "Good, you go ahead and do that." I know there's reaction, overreaction, and being cautious, but to me......seems like throwing caution into the wind. Plus she's young and thinks she knows everything

Why do people automatically want to fly all over the place when there's a deadly virus sweeping across the Earth??

Well, just think of how empty the tourist attractions will be!

Hell, we should all go on vacation!

WAIT! IT'S OFFICIALLY SERIOUS NOW! Devin Townsend cancelled his remaining tour dates.

Actually had thought of going before the coronapocalypse started. But no way I'm going sweaty metal crowd right now. I imagine most feel the same. Hopefully he comes back around once things get back to some semblance of normal.

Anybody checked your grocery stores today?

I hit up Meijer one last time at 8:45am this morning to get some breakfast foods for the kids and some more wine/beer/liquor.

It was calm until about 9:15 or so. It's starting to get crazy. Lots of full carts. I had to tell myself, "Get out now while you still can." checkout was a cinch. I think I'm done shopping now.

You are thinking about this wrong. You don't want people with the corona virus sitting for minutes or hours in the waiting rooms of your clinics exposing all of the other patients, family and healthcare providers to the virus. What happens if all of the healthcare workers get sick?

I think that testing should be done after hours or at seperate facilities with only appropriately trained personnel wearing appropriate protective clothing to prevent someone from going in with a broken ankle and coming out with covid19. I also think this will be around for at least 5 months and closing schools now is an overreaction. Depending on the trajectory of this virus, we may have only half of the respirators in this country that we will need. We also may only have half of the ICU hospital beds that we will need. The death rate for those over 80 is 15%. There are 11.2 million Americans over the age of 80. 1 in 3 is projected to get the corona virus. 15% of 3.73 million is approximately 560,000 Americans over the age of 80 deceased at the end of this pandemic.

its funny. I’ve thought that about you for years

It’s simple, precautions make sense. Cancelling big groups of people, sporting events make sense. Work from home if it’s possible. Beyond that, I don’t see what people REALLY want to do. There is absolutely consequences to people’s lives because of Overreaction. I’m not saying we are there yet, but it sure as hell seems to be moving in that direction and I don’t think people have fully thought that thru. It could harbor in worse living conditions in the long term.

And just posting the numbers you did is, again, Overreaction. Those predictions started before shit was even confirmed here. And I also mentioned this will have a lifespan of MONTHS. If not even longer. Which now you have. Explain how we can contain a virus for months with the current measures? And if more and more things keep getting cancelled, schools, work, etc, hows that gonna work when people run out of money and people need food? Right now the idea is to “contain an outbreak”. But if the virus is still out there just in lower numbers for awhile, what’s gonna stop it from ramping up once restrictions are lifted?

Also there’s this. https://www.roi-nj.com/2020/03/12/healt ... -into-use/

For all the people claiming where are the tests? Or for some who said we have it, yet didn’t understand we didn’t have a proper test that could be used in mass numbers.

There is no containing this virus anymore. The numbers are ramping and will continue to ramp up. Go see your witch doctor for help. Who do you go to Mobu or Baron Samedi?

Nah not really. I’m not down with overreacting and people and news networks spreading worst case figures all the time. You do t think that’s fueling people starting to clear out groceries, etc? when if you TRULY have to contain this, it’s gonna take months unless there is some sort of vaccine which would surely take a lot of time to develop the amount needed. How’s that can work for months on end?

And listen to health experts all you want. Anyone who is being honest, will tel you they have such wildly varying degrees of potential, that it’s a stretch to cal anyone an expert on this. You hear new shit everyday. There is more info contradicting itself on the daily from experts. But it’s cool.

Haha. Nice one. Yeah I will absolutely take my health into my own hands unless necessity suggest otherwise. I speak from a lot of experience. Trust me on that. Hell I got quarantined before by a misdiagnosis from an ER doctor. Was quarantined for over a week and basically had to prove I was healthy thru unnecessary measures which had a 1/100 chance of killing me as they had to biopsy right next to my heart and, one wrong little snip and that’s that. And I was threatened by the hospital with criminal action if I did have this disease and spread it. Anyway, whatver. That’s just a “funny” story of my times with standard “medicine”. I know that’s neither here nor there, but that has relatable info for me.

So then, I posed the honest question. If there is “no containing” anymore and from some”experts” I’ve listened to(I do still listen just don’t take them all as fact) mention this ISNT a virus storm, but essentially we are at the beginning of this virus’ season and it will last a full season. Which does seem to , at least, make sense and realistic. So I’m saying how is it better to shut down everything (if it gets there) for the entire “season”? You don’t think that could plunge society into a really tough time. A sort of depression? Which may or may not recover once you get there. I’ve said this seems worse and anyone can disagree with that, but I don’t see how that’s the better option vs being more precautious. I know everyone says don’t compare it to the flu, but how can you not at least bring up how many people get the flu and how many hospitalizations there are (around 200,000 in the US alone) and tens of thousands of deaths per year? We all seem to try and live normally thru flu season. It’s extremely deadly by number as well.
And we aren’t being normal with this but Super cautious to my eyes. That’s cool. How far you want to take it? Is what I’m asking.

Lol. You think I’m not getting info from the “experts” either? That’s the point . Of course I am. And you have to make sense of what all of them are telling you. Cause if you are gonna say you don’t hear wildly different versions from infectious disease experts, then I guess you are only listening to a few sources. But I’m feeling pretty done. It’s clear to see which way this is going. Keep arguing for being “right” that we are all in for worst case scenarios, when past virus and outbreaks haven’t led us there. But this!!! This is the one everyone. We know for certain!
