I didn't watch the whole thing, but it was interesting how when the pitcher stepped off the mound and began talking to the catcher that the pitcher covered his mouth with his glove so that "they" couldn't see what he was saying.

So why did GM's etc. get fired?
After Tuesday, even the calendar goes WTF!

Pete Rose gambled on games he was managing and very much in control of the moves that could help him win those bets. At times he bet against his own team. That is way bigger than a elaborate sign stealing scheme.

That said, as a lifelong Red Sox fan, I will have no problem with Cora recieving his own lifetime ban.

It's going to develop into a game of spy vs. spy.

They'll plant one guy wearing a red shirt behind the first base line and tell him.."now when he's going to pitch a change up, you stand up and jump up and down"

And they'll plant one guy wearing a green shirt behind the third base line and tell him..."now when he's going to pitch a curve, you stand up and jump up and down"

Of course, the batter knows the plan.

rinse and repeat.

The team management probably used high tech imaging to spy on the catcher signs, and then they communicate it to the batter by banging on a gong?

Not sure where you got that, because I've heard the exact opposite from various sources. Everything that I have read about him from people who were involved in the investigation said that he bet on his team winning whenever he bet on their games.

I'm going on memory of something that happened 30 years ago. So I may well be wrong. Probably remembering the speculation from when that was first revealed. Although Pete being the degenerate gambler he was could have had someone covering the other side of his bets and nobody ever found out

I wouldn't put it past him.

Have you guys seen or heard any of the backlash?

https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archi ... os/606850/

since spring training this has been NON STOP from other players, bitching about complaining about Houston. Baseball players tend to not be as loud as some other sports (usually a bit more reserved) but these guys have been absolutely HAMMERING the Astros since the story broke and punishment handed. Looking forward to some payback over the long season

Not to mention the commissioner seems like a bigger bufoon than Roger Goodell, what a cluster this has been so far :snax:

Well, considering things like this, I can see why a lot of players would still be upset about the inconsequential penalties handed down.
