When was the last time you were star struck?
I dunno, I usually don't care enough to have a reaction when I recognize famous people. And the term "famous" can be questioned here too. Yes, I do live in "L.A." but not the "L.A." people think of. I'm in the deep suburbs.
But this time last year, I started watching YouTube videos on effects pedals and was enjoying the JHS and That Pedal Show channels. I was new to the whole scene, and in a short time, I was exposed to a lot of these guys' shows. Then at winter NAMM '19, I saw all three of them conversing in the JHS booth. I was in a mild daze there. "I can't believe it was them . . ." Man, I know I'm only like 5'5" on a good day, but those dudes were pretty tall.
Then the last time before that, I remember it clearly. About ten years ago, these two Asian-American ladies, one who was on this channel called Current TV, were captured by the North Koreans and it took former president Clinton to get them out. A few months after that, I saw one of 'em in a restaurant in a group. I was like, "Hole smokes, she spent time in a N. Korean prison and lived to tell about it!" Again, I was dazed for a while there.
Other than that, it's like, oh it's him/her.

Mave walked by me at an airport. I was too star struck to say anything. I looked at the stranger guy next to me, and he goes, “holy shit. Was that Dave mustaine??”

I don't usually get star struck when I see people
But about 15-20 years ago, I was in a NYC diner inn the west village. As we got up, the people waiting/coming to our table included Sarah Jessica Parker. I never gave her much of a thought before even in her heyday, but on that day we brushed right up and had eye contact and she flashed a friendly smile. I felt hypnotized. I know now why she captivated so many people on the screen- in-person she just had "it". She just exuded positive and beautiful things.

Re: When was the last time you were star struck?
I wouldn't say I was startsruck. But, meeting and getting to chat with Peter Gammons about the Red Sox for a few minutes in 2001 was cool as hell. I am a lifelong seamhead and at the time, he was the pre-eminant baseball writer in the country.
Other than that, I don't get starstruck at all. Off the top of my head, I've met Bob Kraft(he was shitfaced), Jay Leno, cut Buddy Cianci off at the bar at the end of a event and met Stephen Spielberg. Now he, was one of the nicest people I've ever met, period. Just a all around good guy. No bullshit or pretence with him. He is completely regular and down to earth.

Re: When was the last time you were star struck?
The craziest moment for me was meeting Nuno and having to play guitar while he watched our soundcheck and set. The whole time I was thinking "what the hell am I doing?"
Thankfully, he was really cool.

Re: When was the last time you were star struck?
I saw Rob Schneider in front of Mann’s Chinese theatre in Hollywood about 10 years ago, he looked to be with some Filipino relatives giving them a tour, no one seemed to recognize him and I didn’t want to interrupt his privacy so I didn’t say anything but he was literally a few feet away from me.
Re: When was the last time you were star struck?
Bumped into Kevin Nash at a Philadelphia airport like 10 years ago. He was my favorite wrestler in the mid 90s so it was awesome to see him standing next to me. I was able to ask for a picture and he was cool enough to take it with my little sister.

Megamave and Ellefson in our little one screen theater in Fairmont way the fuck back in the ancient times. Lord knows why, but they were pretty chill and talkative with us fawning kids.
Office bud took a flight to Denver and ended up sitting next to Matt Hardy and going full fan-boy. LOL.

Re: When was the last time you were star struck?
I saw Carrot Top in a Banff hotel last year and just kind of gave him a head nod.
I stopped and chatted with Bjorn Gelotte from In Flames in a bar for a bit many years ago before their set, just after Jesper "left".
I chatted with Jake the Snake when he was doing the comic con circuit.
I just get kinda nervous and ramble more than clamming up. I'm definitely not too cool about it, but whatever, it's better than saying too little and not knowing what the fuck happened.

That reminds me, I once shook hands with former Minnesota governor and pro wrestler Jesse "The Body" Ventura.

Comic Con being mentioned reminded me, when I was at BotCon I ran into Simon Furman just wandering the floor buying stuff like the rest of us nerds. We chatted a bit while waiting to get at some toys at one of the booths. That one left me a little over-awed.

Re: When was the last time you were star struck?
Lemmy was pretty much my drinking buddy at the Rainbow. We were never friends outside of the bar but I spent many nights chatting with him and getting fucked up drunk at that place.
I met a lot of big guys there, jeff Beck, Billy Gibbons, Ace Frehley... Lemmy was a regular though.
I am usually not starstruck unless I have to play guitar in front of a big star. That's always nerve wrecking. But just meeting them is no issue... working at gear companies for years made me used to that part...

Re: When was the last time you were star struck?
I remember being with David Carradine and rummaging around in a trailer he had on the side of his house. Looking for an old Fender brownface he had buried under some wardrobe and whatnot in there. We were bringing it in the house to set it up next to the drums he had in his living room by the fireplace.
Me and my singer were setup on this meeting and were there to jam a bit with him, but he spent the next like hour or so playing old tapes and singing to some of the old stuff he wrote like a foot away from me.
It was pretty trippy because remembering being a little kid doing karate and after the lessons hauling ass home to make sure I didn't miss a second of Kung Fu. Yeah, Bruce Lee, Grandmaster Edward b Sell(my Taekwondo's association founder)and David Carradine were a pretty big deal for me then.
Just tripping on that voice of his and just being with him was kinda cool.

Re: When was the last time you were star struck?
Met a bunch of cool music types when I was at Musician's Friend.
My favorite stories:
Dimebag came in for our grand opening. Super cool dude and made it a point to talk to every person who came through the meet and greet line. Several gave him tapes of their bands. Apparently, one of them slipped him an actual dime bag (this was long before legalized pot). He gave it too one of the sales guys and said, "Dude, I gotta fly in a couple hours and I can't be caught with this shit!" My sales guy flushed it. He came out of the bathroom with a huge smile and said, "I just flushed Dimebag's dime bag!"
One day I walked into the store see a film crew. Turns out they were filming an infomercial in the shop--starring Peter Frampton. Frampton was super cool and talked with the store staff every time he took a break. Probably the biggest star I ever met.
About a week after the announcement that Soundgarden broke up, I looked up from the register to see Matt Cameron waiting to buy some studio gear. I am a huge Rush fan but Cameron has always been my favorite rock drummer. I said, "Hey, Matt. What's new?" At first I thought he was going to hit me but then shrugged, smiled, and said, "Oh, you know, not much." He turned out to be super cool and hung out for about an hour.

Re: When was the last time you were star struck?
Just remembered my two breakfast awe moments as a kid. I think I was around nine or ten years old and had breakfast with the dude that played Boss Hogg on the Dukes. And he was in full garb at the time because he was getting ready to make a big appearance somewhere that morning. Only thing that could have been better would have been if Darth Vader were there instead.
Then I went to breakfast with my parents when I was fifteen, or sixteen, at the local hotel that had this killer restaurant. And some playboy centerfold chick (that I had just scoped the magazine of the previous week) was sitting at the next table. That was a fun meal.

I saw the bassist from Warpaint across the room before one of their shows.
I froze up, I regret not talking to her, shes amazing.

Re: When was the last time you were star struck?
I was in Milwaukee about 1985 there to see Master of Puppets and Ozzy at a record store a few hours before the show in the bathroom. Kirk and James walked in and pissed on either side of me. They weren't famous then. It was the first show of the tour. Not really star struck....just drinking beer and had too pee.
The fact that Stephen appears from nowhere, is sentenced to death in an emotional public trial without anyone interfering at all and is then altogether forgotten as if nothing happened, is already suspicious.

Re: When was the last time you were star struck?
A couple of months ago I had a chance to talk to Guthrie Govan after an Aristocrats show in Columbus Ohio. My main guitar is a Charvel GG guitar. I was star struck at first but Guthrie is a total gear nerd so it ended up being very easy to talk to him. Met Marco M and Brian B too, and the opening band was really cool too (Travis Larson band). Both bands hung out with the fans after the show. I know they aren't that famous outside musician circles, but it sure made my day.
