Dudes, Costco has this perfume blending kit for like $10. It was formulated by a famous perfumer. I blended the musk and the wood. It still smells good on my arm like 10 hours later. I highly suggest buying this kit. It’s fun.

Btw, I want a Gillette ranger. I’m ready to bid on a nice one.

Check it out next time I’m at Costco.

What up with the Ranger, I thought you were over vintage? Don’t you have like 40 you never use?

Yes, but I do use my 40’s superspeed and the ranger is like a deluxe version of that.

SOTD: Soap Commander Support week continues.
Image

I was considering selling the Rex, but I realized I was using a Sputnik on its last legs. Rex deserves better. He made the cut. (2 ATT razors did not). Still got a great shave. The Respect soap is another simple one, not unlike the Simplicity of vision, just completely different. Shaved great. Tons of lather.

Apparently, I gave myself a shallow/partial cut yesterday I didn't notice. I noticed it today. Because of that, I had to use a Balm. I figured Soap Commander Balm would be good. It's good. Maybe too greasy for summer, but it was a necessary evil for this nasty spot on my neck.

BTW< I'm using Proraso green pre shave right now, and I don't think I like it anymore. It doesn't work as well as noxzema, period.

I'm giving today an 8/10. It could have been better.

I like that the "Rex" logo looks like Rax Roastbeef.

I want to waste money on a Saponificio Veresino soap. I don't know why! :(

Could have sworn you sampled one of those not too long ago and didn’t like it?

That Cubebe or whatever it is has gotten some really good reviews tho...kind of want to try it too.

GRUME this month, buying nothing. I have like 20+ soaps and AS’s, not a big deal. Wanted to relax on the purchases for a minute anyway. I have a lot of stuff.

This was straight up the coldest shave I've ever had. Stirling Glacial does NOT fuck around. I'm not chilly, I'm COLD.

10/10, no weepers, did exactly what I wanted it to do and then some.

Hey guys, just jumping in here. I just recently noticed and started reading through this thread. I've been using a safety razor since 2013 and it is the only way I can shave while minimizing ingrown hairs. I've have a vintage Gillette and my main razor is a Merkur 180. I grabbed a new Rockwell 6S (just arrived) and have some new supplies on the way.

Generally I have been using Japanese Feather blades, as that seemed to be what was recommended at the time. What are you guys preferring nowadays?

Super Max Blue Diamonds, Nacets, Gillette 7 O’Clock Blacks for me.

Welcome to the thread, post some pics of your shave setup, we love pics in here!

1. I think I really do dislike the Rex now.

2. RE: SV. I need to check the spreadsheet because it never lies. That said, Cubebe smells like cheap cologne. Not one of my faves. Everybody raves about Dolomiti, and I think it smells like dollar store soap. I HATE it. If I bought one, it would be tundra artica, 70th, or stella alpina.

I like Feather blades but, since they became popular, the price went up so, I stopped buying them.
I really like Sputnik and Astra Platinum blades - they give a nice, smooth shave.

Really glad that Broslinger recommeded the RazoRock SLOC - it's only $16.99 and one of the best razors I've used.

Uncle Walter shave soap is also Broslinger recommeded and I just ordered another tub so I don't run out! (sold out at Italian Barber, had to order it from Groomatorium)

Yeah, really not liking the Rex now. I managed to catch the blade corner on my lip twice. Something strange about the geometry on the Rex. I don't like it at all. Ended up with a moderately comfortable bad shave. Not worth keeping at this price.

Winner blade seems like a winner. I love the Eric Estrada guy on the front.

Soap Commander is good, but I might break from my SC week just because.

Fine aftershave kicks ass. I don't care if it doesn't have "skinfood" (vomit.)

I'm giving today a 7/10. bummer. I hate when shaves don't go great. I was kind of rushed too. I felt self conscious about my shave time since my wife was also getting ready in the bathroom. It fucked everything up. Fuck this razor.

You will LOVE your Rockwell 6S. Plate 5 is my goto.

I've never really liked feather blades all that much. Plus, like Ajax said, they are unnecessarily expensive.

I would go to www.razorbladesclub.com and order

100 gillette platinum
100 gillette 7 o'clock yellow
100 astra platinum
100 sputnik
100 dorco prime
100 derby premium

That will give you a good start.

BTW, some more blade info for you:

1. Israeli Personnas have gone down the toilet. I don't know if they are maintaining their machinery anymore since the factory is closing. Stay away.

2. Try the Lord Platinum Class. If you like it, that means you will like the Shark Platinum and Asco Platinum as well. There are like 20 different Egyptian blades from Lord, and I'm pretty sure its 3 different blades labeled 7 different ways.

3. Try some Super Max Blue Diamonds too. I should have included them in my original list.

4. All German blades are shit.

5. Dorcos are interesting. The 301 was pure shit for me. Korean version AND Vietnam version. The Prime Platinum and Titan (both Vietnamese) were pretty great.

6. Don't be afraid to try Indian Gillettes. I used the "winner" today, and it was a fine blade.

Awesome. Thanks for the tips I will be grabbing a sample of each. Usually I am 4-6 days in-between shaves so I probably wont get 100 of each yet until I find out what works best for my skin. My biggest nemesis is the ingrowns, I always say my facial hair hates my face.

I'll throw up some pics next time I shave!

If you're getting lots of ingrowns, maybe your pores are clogged from your soap/cream/aftershave.

I find if I use an aftershave balm/cream, I get a folicle zit that becomes an ingrown. If I stick to straight up alcohol with water and scent, I'm fine.

What are you using?

So I've used the Nacets in my SLOC but was leery of trying them in the Timeless, it's just more aggressive than I was comfortable with at the time. Time = technique, so I chucked one in this morning and was rewarded with a 2 pass DFS, these are sharp but really smooth. Dug this.

The WSP stuff is a winner in my book.....it's taken me a bit to get it dialed in as it's thirstier than most of my other stuff, but I about drowned the GB this morning, shook it once and loaded up....shit turned out awesome, best shave I've had with this soap.

Finished off with some Pour Homme from Prada...figure I'm home today, she's gonna be here and I should try and smell at least halfway to something she likes lol

BTW,

I checked the spreadsheet.

The Saponificio Varesino was very meh with a main negative of the scent disappearing during lathering/usage.

Thanks for making me check!

BTW, I'm wearing Ferragamo F Black. It smells awesome. I think my wife would like it.

Right on, I thought I remembered you doing a big sample check of a lot of those a couple months back. Buy something else!

Dude, think about trying some MdC....I’m not saying do it, I’m saying think about it. I’ve tried the Fougere and bought the Rose, might grab the Agrumes too. It’s not as great post shave feel as some stuff but it’s truly amazing how little you need for a full 3 pass, one tub would last you years. Nice low key scents, P loved both of them and begs me to use the Rose every once in a while.

Right now I am shaving with Cella Saving Cream and using a Bull Dog brand aftershave balm. I also shave with Pacific Shaving Co. shaving cream occasionally.

I have some RazoRock XXX on the way as well as Amici AS splash.
