I force myself to sit in front of the idiot box to watch movies with my family, but if it's not "family time" I can't be bothered with it. I could be starring at a wall and will feel like I'm making better use of my time. I'm getting old.
Summary: Fuck your current favorite tv show and movie.
I think you are reading too much into it.
If you look at things like netfix its better than ever

While I agree with you in the larger sense that Netflix has "better" shows than what cable network TV has given us for years, it's still all almost entirely fucking garbage.
I just don't have it in me anymore to sit through my 35th year of life of television watching pretending like I'm entertained by the rehashing, recycling, and very gradually (totally not worth it) improvement in writing and directing. In general I think acting has gotten worse or the industry is just hand picking actors to have all the traits than annoy me.
There's shows that are cool, mostly comedies, that aren't pretending to be serious and are genuinely entertaining. I can sit through a couple of those. I like watching Teen Titans Go! with my kids. Aside from that, to get me to invest my time in a series.... It's over. It's probably never going to happen again.
The chick I was with back when Lost was on TV was completely invested in it. I saw a couple of chunks of a few episodes, but obviously wanted nothing to do with it. When the last episode aired she made me sit and watch it with her. At the end I turned to her and just started laughing in her face and asked "Really? All of that time, for this?".
Let’s see. Every once in a while a great show comes along. Breaking Bad last one for me.
But 99% of what I watch is Science channel, and American History Channel. Anything about the Universe, Hitler, WW2, andWW1, oldschool mafia, etc etc is interesting to me.
The other1% is Seinfeld and Curb you Enthusiasm. And prolly Forensic Files. All that combined is PLENTY TV for me. And it’s all generally informative in some way

There is no better evidence for proving Mike's hypothesis than "Lost". Ugh.
I have an hour to kill before having to go finish a job. I’ll probably jam out here soon, but I’m eating watching Science Channel “Nazi Secret Files”.This episode is about the DeathRay the Germans were trying to develop by harnessing the power of Sun rays. I’ve seen it about 4 times, but I’ll still watch it for a bit anyway.

The best part is that she had no answer. She couldn't defend how utterly stupid it was.

I completely vibe with this type of TV consumption. Here and there investment in a genuinely good series, mostly informative background entertainment, and humorous.
If I've spent more than an hour of my day watching TV I hate myself for it.
not gonna lie... I'm enjoying the hell out of Cobra Kai..... its just 80s nostalgia all over the place... most the kid actors are terrible, hell even the adults aren't that great... but... still enjoyable...
