Homeowners Ins rage rant!!!

Post by G-Zod »

So I've been in my current home for 8 years, I have 2 HS age kids (girl and a boy), they both played softball\baseball up until recently, but I also have my youngest who's going into 6th grade, and he plays baseball too. So back when I moved in, I bought a very low cost batting cage which is basically netting and some hardware that you use with 10' metal electrical tubing rods from Home Depot to set it up. It's great for getting some swings in before you go out to a game.

So a few weeks ago we decided to get a less expensive policy, it was a better price, so that was cool. They sent some nimrod inspector out to look at our home. Well we got a letter yesterday stating that the cage was an "attractive nuisance" and if it doesn't come down in 2 weeks the policy will be canceled. So f'ing stupid, nevermind the trampoline and pool, the real deathly menace is the batting cage. I just want to know one case where someone was severely injured\killed in a batting cage. What's next, your kids play sports so we can't insure you?

Idiot underwriters, what a bunch of morons...

At least they're not rejecting homeowners who's homes have pre-existing conditions.... not yet anyway.

Ask them how much extra it would cost to cover the batter's cage.

That's not an option, I can go with another carrier, it will be $470 more a year to keep the cage.

Attractive nuisance is an oxymoron. Unless we're talking about women lol.

yes, it's ridiculous. But the way they look at it is not so much at the battling cage itself being the cause of injury. They see it more as a "kid magnet" or something that increases the likelihood of you having neighborhood kids playing in your backyard. And if one of them gets injured in your property (even if the injury has nothing to do with the battling cage), they would be liable. Now I am not saying I agree with this, I am just saying that's how they see it.

I am surprised they didn't bitch about the trampoline though lol.

That's exactly my thought, everywhere I've looked online it list trampolines as a common AN, so that's even more perplexing. It's also old and some springs are broken, I was already thinking of taking it down. It's an oxymoron wrapped inside on a contradiction.

1. Fill the batting cage with insurance salesman.

2. Throw the batting cage full of insurance salesman into the pool.

3. Throw the trampoline into the pool.

Prudential canceled our policy when they found out we had a trampoline. Didn't even ask me if I would get rid of it  Cocksuckers :shoot:

Had some water damage due to dishwasher. This must be where it started. The adjuster never said a word about it  If he did, I would have got rid of it. They said I was a high risk client :D

They do in Florida. The condition is called hurricanes. There is only one home insurance company in the state. Don't like their rates? Tough!
