but I do research things from time to time - just to expand my already expansive knowledge of all things human.

BTW - what does SLOC stand for?

I highly recommend the SLOC to anyone who wants to try DE shaving. It's the least dangerous razor I've ever used, it gives an excellent shave -AND- it's under $20... win, win win.

GENE: The guy in Korea, who sold me the Stickey, sent me a Gem Micromatic as a bonus, along with a few Gem blades.
I gotta say, I'm a bit hesitant to try the Gem... those blades look BRUTAL!!!
He said you have to ride the cap and if you do it right, it will give a good shave. I'm working from home today, so maybe, I'll give it a try.

Yeah, I accidentally spent $40 on an assortment of gem blades. I’m all in on giving this a fair shot. So interested in that damned Sabre.

The Blackland Sabre? It's a beauty but man, the corners of the blade look pretty scary!

Any good sales this weekend? This year seems quiet. Italian Barber has a few things on sale, but no discounts from the usual suspects.

Btw, my butterscotch 400 brush has a big crack in it. Kind of shocked. No biggie, just surprised.

Shaved this evening. So sick of being on the road. I need to get home and back to work.

Smelly SOTD
- The Gem Micromatic turned out to be a pussycat!
The corners were not an issue at all except, maybe while using the corner to trim the mustache area just below the nose... but, even there it was mostly tame. Got a surprisingly decent shave!
- That weird smelling, Samurai shave cream (more a a cream than a soap) performs well - thanks again Gene! :thu: It smells like they tried to make a Cherry/Creamsicle scent but, didn't get it exactly right.
- The bottle of unlabeled aftershave is Phoenix Vetiver Planet. I took the label off to use the bottle for the last batch of Old Salt but, the Vetiver Planet has sprigs of root inside (presumably vetiver?). Realized that I'd never get the roots out so, I decided to hold on to it for a while... now, I'm developing a liking for it... even though at first, I thought it smelled like moldy cardboard!
- Ended with a dab of Blossomwood Balm which does not smell weird at all.

Day 5 (?) Timeless. This is a fine razor. There’s no denying that. It’s superbly machined, well executed, a fantastic razor. But the .68 gap is not for me. Not as a daily, anyway.

There's just too much buffing needed. I’m gonna have to go to the .95 and see what happens.

RR handle helped a lot, but I think I need even shorter. Diamond awesome as always, AS just kills. It smells like popcorn! How you do dis?

Maggard's 26mm knot killing it, I don’t know how I used smaller stuff before, this thing is badass. Anyway, I’m done with the Timeless for now. It’s good, but for the cost I have better (Karve anyone?). I’ll keep this around for a 3 day shaver; if you’ve got a tough thick beard this gap isn’t for you, guys.

I'm gonna update this with whatever happens when I get the .95/barber pole handle, just FYI.

Awesome updates, dudes! Final day of driving is tomorrow. Not sure if it’s going to be a shaving day or not.

1. I put a nice dent into the apr bombora soap.
2. I probably used about an inch of old salt.
3. My brush failed
4. Rockwell plate 6 is too aggressive. 5 is great.
5. I might like Sputnik blades more than blue platinum.
6. Wife thinks chatillon Lux lamplight penance smells like diaper cream.
Good week to be alive, but can’t wait to be back in my life.

Quick little pickup shave for Sunday morning. Glad to be back on the Karve; it's tiny and heavy and perfect.

Dollar for dollar I don't think you can find a better razor for under $100, at least not to suit me.

MLS always top level for me.....I have nice soaps, more expensive bases etc...this one just always performs.

Dammit. My grooming Dept laundry had to be open for 9 days because I couldn’t shut it wet. It shrank significantly. Bummer. Too much milk (water) in the recipes.

The shave wasn’t perfect - I had four or five weepers - but the neck ended up smooth. I went with the B&M Classic, which I rather like. My last shave, which was Thursday, went with the Adagio, which feels good, but smells...weird...I wonder if it went off - I believe I have the 2018 Adagio (Italian Barber only had end run 2018), and a year does a lot.

That SLOC, the new Cremo, and the black Platinums are going to be a strange shave. And by strange, I mean exciting. As exciting as shaving can get.

Congrats on the first shave!!!

The first time I DE shaved, I hacked my fact to bits!
I used too much pressure, went too fast and started off with the wrong angle.
To get the correct angle, start by holding the razor handle parallel to the floor and the top of the razor touching your side burn area.
While making short North to South strokes, slowly drop the handle towards the floor - you have the correct angle just as the blade starts cutting stubble.
If you begin with the handle perpendicular to the floor (blade 90 degrees to your face) , you will get a lot of blade chatter and you will wind up with a ton of nicks - this was the mistake that I made and I wound up a bloody mess!
You have to learn all the angles on your face and be sure to keep the pressure as light as possible and above all, take your time.
It will take about 20 shaves to get good.
Hope this helps!

It wasn’t my first shave - It’s actually the second with this blade - but it was the first with B&M Classic. All told, a good, not great, shave.

For what it’s worth, I did follow that exact advice (posted here, by you) a couple of months ago, when I started DE shaving. I’m not perfect, but I’m getting better.

Takes much practice.

Think you’re really gonna like that SLOC.

Remember bm reserve soaps load fast and take a shit ton of water. If it’s stringy, you’re way short on water.

Classic is one of my favorite scents. Based on Gillette sun up.
