I was all set to buy this LP (Custom Historic '58 Standard VOS), so I had my Sales Rep pull it and play it. He just called and sait it was underwhelming. F00k... I love the top on it and I've been looking for the "right one" for months. I appreciate his honesty but was really hoping it would pass muster. They have 3 others, but the tops on them don't float my boat. Still looking...

You live in Indiana? For that kind of money I would be at Sweetwater playing all of them for myself. Not to mention a LP is never really a stunning acoustic instrument. It's when you plug into a 100watt Marshall that it shines.

That said, I love plain tops. That one is sexy.

He was just giving me the feedback I asked for. I've bought a lot of gear from him and he has a pretty good idea of what I do/don't like. He knows a "good one" when he plays it.

I love the top on that one. Just enough character to be different... Trust me, I'll drive up and play whatever I ultimately buy. I'm looking for a "bucket list take it to the grave" fiddle, so he's helping me narrow the choices to ones that are worth the 90-minute drive to check out in person. They generally don't have a lot of historic/VOS models in stock, so having him take a run at it first saves me time. He's going to keep looking and let me know when he finds something...

Yeah? To be honest, I never really noticed. I like that the burst is really light and think it gives it a somewhat "old, faded LP" vibe, so I didn't pay much attention to the edge coloring at the bottom. I see what you're saying, though...
