Any of you fools have a gas range?
I'm buying a new construction home and get to pick my appliances. We're getting a gas range which I am really excited about. Anyone who does a lot of cooking have a modern gas range at your place? Or some hands on experience with one? What would you recommend for a model?

Re: Any of you fools have a gas range?
I had one in my last house, the one that came in the house was old and was having issues where the oven wasn't always kicking back on (they shut off and on to regulate the heat).
I replaced it with this https://www.bestbuy.com/site/lg-5-4-cu- ... Id=5916400
I liked that it was convection and I liked that it was a 5 burner with the middle one being elongated. I have dutch ovens that worked better with this than a round burner. The griddle insert was a nice feature too. It boiled water a lot quicker than the previous one and the convection was really nice. I had it about a year until we sold the house.
The house Im in has gas heat but not plumbed for gas stove, so I'm back to electric. I do miss my old stove and cooking with gas.

Some of the new gas stove tops have weird, but cool looking pot-stands/grill over each burner.
They can be tall and not really wide enough so, when you're moving the pot around, it can tip off the pot-stand.
Try to find a stove that has grills that are level with the rest of the stove top surface.

So you didn't have any issues with the LG? Did the oven heat evenly?

realized the LG wasn't the one I ended up buying, I looked at it along with this one https://www.bestbuy.com/site/reviews/fr ... 000?page=5 Both had good reviews, but I did end up with the Frigidaire one, I don't recall while I choose it over the LG.
Like I said, I only had it a year before I sold the house, but in that time I thought the oven heated evenly when using both convection and standard. Used it for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners, cooked with it daily using both stove top and oven. It got up to temperature really fast too, much quicker than the other one I had. I mostly used convection, on baked goods everything cooked evenly.
On the stove top, liquids came to boil quickly, one of the smaller burners has a nice simmer option. The middle insert lifts out and you can drop the griddle in there so its closer to the flame, the middle burner is oval shape so it heats it up all around quickly and evenly.
I shopped at several places, chains and local shops, the best deal I found for that particular one was at Best Buy of all places.

Re: Any of you fools have a gas range?
I have electric ovens (3) an older ‘bread oven’ by GE,
a FRIGIDAIRE (gallery) and a Kenmore elite.
Then two 5 burner gas stove tops. Matching Frigidaire and Kenmore.
Personally I like the Frigidaire oven and the kenmore stove top
I don’t have all the accessories but the kenmore has better burner sizes. The 2 on the left match for griddle use. Then it has a gargantuan center burner for large pots of spaghetti or chili.
Also the controls are off to the side—out of the way.
I don’t want to bump any controls, needs to be easy to use and keep clean.

Re: Any of you fools have a gas range?
We have a gas range. Samsung, matches all the other appliances in the kitchen. Really sweet unit. I would never go back to electric unless I absolutely have to
Re: Any of you fools have a gas range?
I currently have an electric Jenn-Aire cooktop (my house has a cooktop and built-in wall oven, instead of a range...), but I am in the process of replacing it with a new Samsung 5-burner gas cooktop. Specifically, the NA30N7755TG model. It was rated the highest on a number of appliance review sites and has some great features (and is available as a range). If your interested, I also bought the under-cabinet range hood (NK36N7000UG) which has some cool "techy" features that pair it with the cooktop (they communicate via bluetoooth and the fan will turn on and change speed based on the use of the cooktop). I can't tell you how good they are in practice since they are still in boxes, but I did a ton of research and the Samsung stuff was always at or near the top and competed with the Wolf and Viking equipment.

Re: Any of you fools have a gas range?
When we bought our condo our realtor told us that the Jenn Aire brand range was a high quality brand/unit.
I like it just fine.
That is 100% of my knowledge on the subject.

Re: Any of you fools have a gas range?
I won't use anything but gas.
We have an old GE that still kicks butt
BUT if you have gas from the city lines, that's great.
We now have LP bottles.....not as strong a flame as city line natural gas

Re: Any of you fools have a gas range?
Right now I'm debating the LG LRG3193ST, which would be covered by the standard appliance budget, or the GE JGS760SELSS. I would have to shell out some cash for the GE. Both have good reviews on consumer report and all over the web. I want something that will last a long time and I'm always of the mind 'you get what you pay for'. However my wife would like to stay in budget. Any thoughts?

The knob placement on the LG is similar to the range my GF has. We both bump into the knobs and either inadvertently turn them on, or change the setting, frequently. Your results might be different, but I'd stay away from the LG for that reason alone...

I never had that issue, but my worry was with kids and pets, there was that potential that either could turn a knob enough to not ignite but let gas fill the house. I used knob locks, which solves all those problems.
