BroSlinger wrote:Itchy, I have no excuse (lots of excuses in my head) not to ride more.

When do you ride? Do you have kids? Are you married? What are your job hours? What are your sleeping hours?

I'm still trying to figure out how to ride more without:
1. bailing on the wife and kids.
2. making it look like I don't work
3. giving up 2 hours of sleep every day.

Hey Gene,

I get in trainer rides on my Wahoo Kickr before work a couple times a week. Considering where you live, and the weather you're about to deal with, I cannot recommend an indoor trainer highly enough. I use a program called TrainerRoad, its an app on my phone that controls the resistance on the trainer, while putting you through intervals. I'm on a low volume plan that consists of two 60 minute rides during the week and one 90 minute ride on the weekend, and I can swap them for real road or MTB rides. I do 15-30 mile rides on my lunch break on non-training days, sometimes I double up, but that seems to do more harm than good if I don't allow myself enough recovery time. I usually do a 40-70 mile ride on a weekend day, or break it up over two days with smaller rides, depending on what fun I have lined up for the weekend.

I am married, the wife rides with me occasionally, it's good for us. We have no kids, now or ever. This is probably the biggest reason for my ability to get in so many miles. I work 9-5. I sleep 10-6. Usually jam music on weeknights with a couple bands. My schedule is admittedly hectic, but it keeps me alive and moving!

The balance is definitely going to be the hardest part considering your family, and it is going to take a serious commitment. One of my closest friends and riding buddies has 4 kids though, so it can be done! I'd recommend shaving an hour of sleep without even knowing your current schedule. If the fam is asleep, you wont be missing out on any time with them! Plus, if you're riding hard and often, you'll have no problem falling asleep, and the quality of that sleep will most likely be better - and that's coming from someone who suffers from insomnia occasionally.

This past Friday, I picked up a bottle of Full Spectrum CBD oil to see how well it helps with stress and stress related insomnia. I have been using Unisom about twice a month, for those nights when my mind is racing and can’t sleep. Finally got around to giving CBD oil a shot and the results were interesting….

I went to the local, Vitamin Shoppe, in the hopes that they would have a better quality oil than a vape store. I had a feeling that they wouldn’t carry it so, I wound up going to a vape store after all. Since, I don’t have to worry about drug testing (at work) I bought small, eye dropper bottle of 150 mg Full Spectrum for $40.00. Of course, I had to try some as soon as I got into my car.
I wasn’t able to tell how many drops I took but, I wound up taking about ½” the eye dropper.

About 30 minutes later, I felt a noticeable buzz; kind of like how you feel after taking one shot of booze. It was pleasant, it didn’t affect my perception or driving ability (in the least) and it wasn’t anything like weed… not even like a contact high when you’re hanging out in a room full of smoke. No munchies, no giggling, no tripping, no paranoia, no cotton mouth…. Just a nice, pleasant feeling.
Without going into detail, it definitely made me more tolerant of irritating people!

On Friday evening, about 45 minutes before bed, I took another half an eye dropper.
While it has been reported the CBD oil helps with sleep issues, it didn’t help in my case… at all. As a matter of fact, it was very difficult falling asleep. I found that the oil made my mind wander in an very entertaining way... it was too entertaining! LOL! It took about 3 hours to fall asleep and when I finally did, I had some interesting dreams, not bizarre, just interesting. I tried it again, Sunday night and it took 4 hours to finally nod off. So much for helping with insomnia!

One positive effect…. it was just a coincidence but, after I took a hit on Saturday afternoon, the g/f happened to be in the mood. The stuff gave me a massive woodie! So, two thumbs up for CBD oil!!! :thu: :thu:

^That sounds like a pretty good CBD ad right there, Brian. A buddy of mine is like that on herb - he just can't go to sleep because his mind is racing. I'm the exact opposite, I can (and have) fallen asleep mid-conversation when I am high enough.

I have smoked herb on a daily basis for about 10 years, up until a week ago when I stopped cold turkey because I am job hunting. Haven't slept well since. I wonder if the metabolites from CBD oil would make me pop positive for weed on a whiz quiz. :hmm:

From Broslinger's post on page 1 of this thread:
"First off, find out the difference between isolate and full spectrum. I HIGHly recommend the full spectrum. Isolate is necessary if you have weed testing at work though."

When I was smoking weed on the regular, I had no issues falling asleep... but, that was a long time ago when life's stresses were nonexistent.
I think I'll try the Isolate variety to see if I have a different reaction. Maybe there was something in the way Broslinger "HIGHly" recommended the Full Spectrum variety?

A buddy of mine smoked daily, for over 30 years. The guy absolutely loses his mind when his supply runs out.... it's like normality is the new high!
I wonder if Full Spectrum will help him through the dry days?

Anything's possible! I'm guessing that, my brain chemistry isn't what it was 30 years ago. Especially, with the constant job stress and stress at home.
These days, I get hammered on two beers... maybe CBD oil is like acid for me?

you are having trouble sleeping b/c one of the things thc does is increase serotonin. go to your local supplement store or any pharmacy and pick up 5htp 100mg. they need to be taken on an empty stomach so try it about an hour or so before supper. start off with just 1.

this book has been a life-saver for me. if you have anxiety, depression, etc... or maybe want to cut out any addictions you may have to psychoactive substances, this book can really help. in the winter, when we can have a few/several rainy days in a row and i start getting depressed, i just take 5htp for a few days and i'm good to go.

Ajax,

I had the same thing with taking longer to fall asleep.

I think I was just feeling excited to be taking something interesting that might help me in ways that conventional medicine and supplements can't.

After a week or two, my sleeping pattern became normal again. Still having strange dreams. I had a dick grow out of my face in a dream the other night.

BTW, RIGHT after i started taking it, my wife was "in the mood". I was like, "Damn, I gotta keep taking this stuff. "

Man, I'll try (almost) anything once! I remember liking Tryptophan back in the 90's but, I think it was banned for a while so, I stopped and forgot about it. 5 HTP sounds like it will work better. I'll pick some up this week. :hi5:

Thanks bigfoot!!!

I used to take 5htp to help me replenish serotonin when I was taking an unhealthy amount of ecstasy back in the day, midnight raver. Ah to be 22 again... Anyway, your advice makes sense, I'll grab some at GNC on my way home tonight.

Heh, Heh, heh.... good stuff! :sarge:

Talk about weird dreams; my dick and balls fell off and I tried to reattach them. After a few minutes, I got disgusted and threw them into the kitchen sink - they made the sound of a raw steak hitting enameled cast iron.

Tryptophan used to be a pretty common supplement and was even prescribed by doctors. In the 1980s a bad batch came over from Japan that was contaminated with something called “peak x” and some people got sick and a few died. Almost immediately after pulling tryptophan off the market, lo and behold, this new medicine called Prozac hit the market. Makes you wonder...

Let me state this again: aminos need to be taken on an empty stomach and away from protein in order for them to work properly.

Thanks!
Amino acids are some amazing supplements/medicines/etc... so, one of the things that lower serotonin can cause is a craving for food, especially carbs, since they help tryptophan bind and such. Sometimes when you want sweets it is really your brain craving serotonin.

So...

On the flip side, 5htp can greatly reduce your craving for carbs and even all food. It can really aid weight loss. Try intermittent fasting, where you basically skip a meal. Instead of skipping breakfast, take 200-300mg 5htp in the late afternoon and skip supper. It works and you’ll feel just fine.

For sure. But having been on both sides of health/weight I'd say life is a lot better when you're healthy/fit than being overweight and feeling like crap all the time.

You never know how long you will live but it's more about the quality of your life and health for however long you are around.
