I'm a recent convert. Had a bunch of Amazon credit, wife was Christmas shopping, I had her order up From Mars to Sirius, The Way of All Flesh, and Magma. Need to see them live. Bad.
I am fond of this one especially!!!
Such a uuuge fan of this band too. The track backbone was played by me at least once a day for a good two years. I love from mars to Sirius about as much as any metal album I have ever owned.

I love this band, so much. I've seen them live twice - definitely one of the greatest live metal bands out there. They have their live sound and performance fucking dialed in to a T(it)

They are far and away my favorite metal band of all time. Best gym music there is and they don't seem to really care about being cool or acting tough or any of the other bullshit that sometimes plagues the metal scene.
Heavy as fuck but still manages to focus on melody and groove.

Try Magma and work backwards from there, less..... Cookie-ish?
Just listened/watched a few Magma YouTube vids... kind of cool... very different from modern metal. I dig the jazz/metal/psychedelic thing they have happening. I'm old so, they don't sound too dated! Cheers for the recommendation!!!
Really dug this vid... it has what I can only describe as funk/metal/opera/fusion music with "Frank Zappa 200 Motels vocals" .

Actually, I meant the Gojira album entitled Magma. That video was "...Something Completely Different..." Reminds me of Gyorgy Ligeti's Requiem.
