This is the first album that I had purchased with my own money.

This is the album that made me want to play guitar. As soon as I heard that long sustaining note in "Machine Gun" I knew I had to learn how to do that!

Born in 1991, didnt really pay much attention to music until I heard this collection of things, not in this order (the first one I remember hearing was “Madhouse” by Anthrax) . I think I was in grade 6

I was sitting at the Schrader's extended stay shortly after our move to Hawaii in August or September of 1996 and watching 70s week on Vh1 and i saw this. I had been into music for a while listening to the oldies (stones, motown, beach boys and some slightly more current pop) but as soon as I saw this video I immediately said "I wanna do that!"

I got into other bands later if course, but any originals I play, you can trace a direct root back to these guys.

Metallica - Master Of Puppets

That album is by far the most profound piece of music for me. "Tonally" "Riff-wise" "Lyrically" etc...

Close runners up:

Faith No More - Angel Dust
Alice In Chains - Dirt
Crowbar - Broken Glass & Odd Fellows Rest
COC - Deliverance
Megadeth - Peace Sells
Slayer - Reign In Blood
Pantera - Vulgar Display Of Power
Soundgarden - Superunknown

Damn you Suckvalve. It's been five days since we last saw Draelyc. Clearly he has reevaluated his life choices and thinks GAB is not worthy of his time. Which of course it's not, but you shouldn't have let him come to that conclusion. Yaargh.

Yea, what a bummer, he will be sorely missed.

Thanks, Wayne ~ appreciated. :thu: Jury's still out & I haven't come to any conclusion yet, but I have spent the past week reflecting on recent exchanges and the apparent change in climate aroud here. Gonna post a couple of thoughts that have come to me in my other thread and see what comes of it. (Although, I think I can pretty well predict exactly what will come of it, natch.)

(I realize your post here may well be tongue-in-cheek, but either way, it gave me a chuckle and I do appreciate that, mang!)

Hard to pick just one.

Rush - Different Stages Live: This one was huge, because the only Rush I'd really heard had been in the context of local rock radio up to this point (my parents didn't own any of their albums). So getting to hear a few of those songs as well as 2112 in its entirety a whole step down was huge. I didn't know Rush could be heavy until then. And it really sparked me to want to learn how to play like Alex Lifeson.

Black Sabbath - Master of Reality: My first full length Sabbath album. And probably still my favorite. Almost everything crushes on this album but there are some beautiful soft interlude pieces. That whole light and shade thing Iommi talked about, well that was really present on this one.

Metallica - Master of Puppets: Still my favorite Metallica album. No explanation needed here I think.

Soundgarden - Superunknown: definitely kick started my love of 90s rock. My mom took me to the CD store and I wanted something "alternative" (I was 10. I didn't know what the fuck I was looking for). Dude upfront recommended this and it didn't have a parental advisory on the front so I was gold. Big heavy riffs, odd time signatures and AMAZING vocals made me a Soundgarden fan for life. The best songs on this album are the ones that get no radio airplay. 4th of July, Like Suicide and Mailman are my jams.
"I understand the science behind it. But you know what I trust more than science? Tony Iommi."
