Original or Remastered KIMB???

Post by Mamberg Jr »

I need y'all's opinion on something... You read the title, so what's you opinion??? I honestly like most of the original better. I don't like, However, the amount of reverb on the original. It sounds like they are playing on the other side of a Gym. I do like the Drum Mixing, Guitar Tone, and the loudness of the bass... Thoughts???

Looking down the cross has to be my favorite song on the album... I prefer the Remaster of this one, but that's about it for Remasters. I like how loud the bass is in the original though...

The Skull beneath the skin is a close second. Original is much better. (Lmao vic :beavis: )

Last rites is also very close. The original is MUCH better than the remaster

KIMB. Original>remaster. Not a huge fan of the vocals in the originals, but it's cool.

Mechanix. This is a difficult one, but original>remaster. The bass just needs to be that loud. The solo in the original fucking RIPS. The intro in the remaster sounds fucking great though, I'll give it that

Rattlehead. My least favorite song on the album. I would have to say I kind of like the Remaster a bit better, but The reverb on Dave's voice seems appropriate here.

Idk if it has to do with the remastered version, but the remaster of These Boots is CENSORED!!! like, wtf??? I ain't even gonna put up video's...

THESE ARE MY OPINIONS THOUGH. What do y'all think??? what are y'all's thoughts??? Which one do you guys like??? Y'all can guess which one I like :beavis:

KIMB is awesome, no matter what version. I have the OG version on vinyl from Combat records. Speaking of being an old fart. It rips \m/

Your favorite choices, songwise on the album, are spot on. LDTC and SKBTS are both killer, killer tunes. I can't say I Have actually sought out any of the remasters come to think of it. I do dig the clarity of Dave's voice on this particular remaster. He's never been a songbird by any stretch but he sounds vicious and spiteful on this and it fits the music like a glove.

But like, Gun to your head, you had to choose... Original or Remaster??? Some people I've talked to want to vomit at the thought of the original... Idk how... I guess they've never listened to black metal

I'd stick with the original. I have heard bad things about the Rust in Peace remaster. Which in and of itself is absolutely stupid as, even though I am a Poland era fan first and foremost; you are just not going to improve on RiP. No way possible to do that, neither from a strictly sonic standpoint or from a "let's add this extra track here and there to spice it up" standpoint.

Rust in Peace remaster is so horrendously bad. Some of the vocals are redone. It actually angers me to listen to it.

I’ve burned several copies of the original mix for friends because they lost their cd and didn’t want to buy the remaster. Can’t say I blame them.

It's pretty much like the idea of remastering Reign in Blood or something. You can't improve on perfection.

I'm definitely approving this thread :thu:

I have the original vinyl version, too (JT, my bruthah :hi5: ). Bought it after I fell in love with Peace Sells. Listened to it exactly 3 times. First was "this dude was actually in Metallica? :freak: " - second time was "this is the same band that made Peace sells? " - third time was "holey fack - never listening to that shite again :nlisten: "

Fast forward 30 or so years. Listened to the remaster to see if it was as bad as I remembered. Was wrong. Way wrong. Have listened to it many times now, and I think it's seriously good. Almost a different band from what followed, but a great example of mid-80s thrash.

Looking down the cross :rawk:

To me, the sound on the remaster is more consistent with what I love about their subsequent albums.

Only thing I hate about that remaster is Boots. The BLEEEEEPs were funny the first listen, but not after. Pretty well can't stand that song anyway (or Stupidsticious on their next album), so it doesn't really matter all that much - it's off my playlists.

I won't listen to any of the other remasters. What Dave did to them is criminal  .

It's amazing how THIN Dave dialed in his lead tone... it's like a wah rocked all the way forward. That said... i prefer the original and think all of the remasters are an abomination. It was completely wrong, especially for albums like Countdown, Youthanasia, Cryptic Writings, which already have pristine/amazing production

The KIMB remaster was done separately from the rest (2 or 3 years beforehand), with a bit more restraint and such. I think someone other than Mustaine did that one, too.
